Why University College Birmingham is a top pick for Clearing
Investing £200 million in their campuses, University College Birmingham is right in the centre of England's second city, a hub of business districts, nightlife, cultural attractions, parks and entertainment - where nearly 40% of the population is under 25.
Their degrees are shaped by the needs of industry, while their support includes a free £5,000 for all UK, full-time undergraduates starting in 2025.
Their subject areas range from business, finance, culinary arts, health, nursing, psychology and education to sport, hospitality, tourism, design, digital, aviation, engineering and construction.
The university also works with over 1,000 employers to build their talent pipelines, benefitting students through placements and guest speakers. Teaching staff have a wealth of expertise in their fields, and the university is a centre for excellence across subjects such as tourism, with top awards for areas such as nursing.
The university has one of the most diverse student bodies in the UK and offers award-winning support in an inclusive environment (best regional student support – Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2024).
Helping students with the cost of living is a top priority, and as well as the free £5,000 support package, the university has Kick-Start, up to £800 a year to pay for expenses such as uniform and food and drink.
Opening up opportunities for every learner, their alumni go on to forge successful careers everywhere from the BBC, Disney, Uber and Collins Aerospace to the NHS, Michelin-starred restaurants and top-flight sports clubs. They are Forbes 30 Under 30 winners, multi-million-pound entrepreneurs and award-winning social enterprise leaders. From Birmingham to the South Pole, their impact is everywhere.
Make sure you have all your documents ready and make a checklist of what you want to ask the university e.g. what kind of support do they offer?
Get up to speed on available courses and entry requirements before you call, but our Clearing hotline team will help you too.
The university you want to go to might not offer the exact course you wanted, but may have something very similar or that suits you even better!
You can apply for one of our courses through UCAS. However, if you miss the deadline, but have your heart set on one of our undergraduate degree courses, don't panic!
You get another bite of the cherry through Clearing, either through UCAS or directly to us. Going direct means you won't have to pay any administration costs as you will do through UCAS, but you will need to be applying only to us.
You don't need to wait until you get your results to apply either. Clearing offers are available from 5 July, with our Clearing open day on August 16.
Worried about the Clearing process? Try not to be, our friendly and knowledgeable Clearing advisers are there to support you all the way and we don't have long holding times, so you can get on with planning for the next chapter of your life – university!
If you'd like to understand more about Clearing and the courses we are likely to be offering, as well as more about our free £5,000 for all UK full-time undergraduates, register for updates on our Clearing page on the university website and we'll keep you posted.
If you need guidance and would rather call us directly, you can reach our admissions team free of charge on 0333 733 4133.
Remember, Clearing is about matching you up with a course that is available and suited to your aspirations, as much as it is your grades. So do not panic if you do not get the grades you had hoped for.
We will take other things into consideration such as your reasons for wanting to join the course, your passion for doing so, the UCAS points you have accumulated, your personal statement, and the way that you approach speaking with our admissions team.
If you've applied via UCAS
If you have already submitted an application via UCAS and have not managed to secure a university place, you can use Clearing from 5th July.
Step 1 - Once you have found a suitable undergraduate degree course, call our dedicated, friendly advisers
