The Singleton Park campus enjoys a stunning beachfront location and is surrounded by leafy parkland, which is perfect for sports, recreation and socialising. The Bay campus, also located next to the beach, is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and has fantastic business partnership links. Each campus is a short walk to the bustling city centre, which offers a variety of amenities and attractions as well as a lively nightlife scene.
Swansea University is known for cultivating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, with excellent tuition and expert faculty staff. The university has been awarded the highest standard of Gold Rating in the 2018 Teaching Excellence Framework.
Swansea University students on Whatuni say:
“A really nice laidback uni in an amazing place with beautiful beaches and great nightlife. They have handled studying remotely really well and I couldn’t recommend enough.”
“I really didn't know what to expect when I started my degree. The course tutors and lecturers are always happy to help and respond quickly to correspondence. The facilities and course material are second to none, readily available and easily accessible. The campus is in a really nice location, with good links to the city. Even as an off-site student, I still feel a really integral part of the university and am enjoying every minute of my studies.”
"Swansea University has been an incredible experience all round. The care and compassion they have towards every single student is second to none, and this makes students feel heard and involved in the community. The atmosphere is so friendly, and it is so easy to settle in. The clubs and societies are accessible to all and strongly encourage mass participation.”
A degree from Swansea University is a huge asset in the search for graduate employment or further study and adds substantial value to long term career progression. Swansea is ranked by the 2021 Complete University Guide as being in the top 15 universities in the UK for career prospects.
A large factor in the success of Swansea’s graduates is the university’s dedicated Employability Academy, which helps students get a head-start on their future careers while studying. Services include:
The Swansea Employability Academy (SEA) is praised by students for its workshops and support when finding employment, both as a student and a graduate.
Swansea University students on Whatuni say:
“I have a full-time job as an Apprentice however, I regularly receive emails with information on about careers activities, support such as CV writing and interview skills. There are also regular talks held through the University by companies which you can attend to give you an insight into the careers which are available within your area of study.”
“Swansea Employability Academy is amazing, increasing skills, providing bursaries, helping with graduate applications, interview practice and cv writing.”
"Regular events and Swansea employability award allows constant advice and help even after we graduate.”
“Many schools have dedicated employability/careers teams, who run events to help you with CV and interview skills, or just discuss what you’d like. There are also industry speakers for modules which are great.”
Swansea University offers gold standard teaching (TEF 2018) on hundreds of undergraduate degree programs, spread across a wide range of subject areas, from Accounting to Zoology. The university is a research driven institution that ranked in the UK’s Top 30 in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework League Table.
Students praise the enthusiasm and support of their lecturers, and the knowledge and expertise they are able to bring to the course curriculum and delivery.
The university’s online resources and accessibility of course material is of a very high standard, and has been recognised in the university’s success at the 2019 Whatuni Student Choice Awards, where it ranked 3rd for Courses and Lecturers.
Swansea University students on Whatuni say:
“Due to the current situation, we are working on a 1 week in, 1 week out schedule. During the online learning weeks, we are guided as to which online lectures we should engage with to begin to learn the theory behind the topic. Some of these lectures are pre-recorded and some are live. During the weeks on site, we have a mix of lectures and workshops where we go over example questions and hold class discussions to enhance understanding.”
"Having come from engineering originally I was at first skeptical about the flipped content that the course director was implementing, but I was made a believer when I saw that it enabled us to learn about a topic then do more advanced applications of it showing that we could really grasp the content and get help in class with stuff we needed help understanding rather than struggling to learn the topic in class and getting stuck on questions with no support later on.”
"The lecturers all have office hours each week and are actually very happy when you use them! I find it helps too as you get to know them a little bit more and then you enjoy the lectures more and pay attention.“
The university has a large and very active Student’s Union, who act as the representational voice of its student community as well as organising a lively timetable of events throughout the academic year.
Highlights include:
Welsh Varsity - Swansea and Cardiff universities compete in more than 30 different sports in what is the biggest student event in Wales and the second largest in the UK, behind Oxford-Cambridge. The event concludes with the varsity rugby match, drawing crowds of up to 20,000 and broadcast on live TV.
Summer Ball - An evening of festivity to mark the end of the academic year, held in the grassy grounds of the Singleton Park Campus. Former acts include Jess Glynne, Professor Green and Lethal Bizzle.
Swansea’s student-run SU is comprised of a team of officers, coordinators and volunteers. Students are welcome to get involved with the running of the SU during their time at university, and reviewers are praiseworthy of the accessibility and diversity of events offered.
Swansea University students on Whatuni say:
"The students’ union host a lot of events, both on campus and online so as an off-site student this is something, I have been able to participate in. I have taken part in online pub quizzes as just 1 example. The SU is a good to get in contact with if there is any part of uni life that you feel could be improved or changed. They take time to listen to your ideas and concerns and put them forward.”
"Incredible team of students union officers, especially in regard to the emphasis put on student voice”
"The students union are always on hand to offer advice and sign post you to services which has been a huge help! Plus, the freshers activities they prepare are generally excellent.”
"Going to the SU after/between lectures for a pint leads to meeting so many people in first year while on campus. Second year they were still good places to go to. Watching sports games there is a lot of fun, the SU on Bay also has board games.”
Swansea University recognises the importance of a home-away-from-home, and offers a selective choice of accommodation options to suit all preferences and budgets.
On-site housing is available at both Bay Campus and Singleton Park Campus, and off-campus options are provided at Hendrefoelan Student Village, which is around two-miles from the city centre. Beck house caters exclusively to families, international students and postgraduates.

Swansea University students on Whatuni say:
"Accommodation is amazing. Great sized rooms and communal kitchen/lounge area.”
"They were amazing when I needed to self isolate, checking in on my mental state and offering food. They always make sure you know there's someone to talk to.”
"My accommodation is very affordable, the internet is excellent, and the house is roomy. Only downside has been a few maintenance issues, which have been resolved.”
“My house is lovely, the room sizes are larger than some houses that I have seen in the area, the WiFi access is very good in my room as well as the phone service. It is located about 5 minute walk from a local park and only a 10 minute drive to the local beaches which is amazing when you want a bit of relaxation and walking. The variety of housing options in the area varies a lot and there is a good selection to choose from.”
Each campus is a self-contained learning environment, providing an impressive range of facilities to ensure that students have the resources available at their fingertips to achieve academic and personal success.
Singleton Park provides shops, food and drink outlets, an on-campus theatre, cinema and even a museum with the most extensive collection of Egyptian artefacts outside of London. There are world-class sports facilities, with Olympic standard swimming pools, outdoor and indoor sports pitches, athletic facilities, tennis courts and a fully equipped gymnasium.
The Bay campus includes coffee shops, retail spaces, a fully equipped library, a 700-seat auditorium and its very own beach. Students comment regularly on the quality and accessibility of Swansea’s modern facilities.
Swansea University students on Whatuni say:
“The university is amazing when it comes to the library and the facilities they offer for students to study in, what I love most about the spaces to study is the fact they are very open but then can be a little private for students to get on with assignments.”
"The library is a great space for reading or working, it is quiet, and you can find loads of support materials relating to your course. The engineering street is vast with very high spec equipment to support whatever course you are completing.”
"Excellent library on bay campus! So light and so many options for seats. Loads of study spaces around the place as well. Up to date lecture, seminar and of labs as well.”
“Library is great, and if it’s full then there's so many other rooms or builds where a computer can be found. The engineering labs are amazing to use, there’s so much industry grade equipment.”
There are many advantages to living in Swansea, and its proximity to the beach is probably the most obvious. The city has several beaches within a short walk of the centre. Both university campuses are located on the beachfront, ideally placed for summer BBQs, windy winter walks, and some of the best surfing locations in the UK.
The city centre is a bustling hub of cafés, restaurants, shops and attractions such as art galleries and museums, providing a wide array of activities for students to discover. The city is well serviced by local public transport routes, offering a 24-hour timetable which allows students to take advantage of the nightlife for which Swansea is so well known. Wind Street is the late-night centre of city life, with many clubs, bars and live music venues within convenient distance of each other.
Swansea University students on Whatuni say:
"I am situated very close to town and live on the biggest hill in Swansea so have an amazing view of the beach and everything around.”
"Very close to the university, beach and town so ideal for student balanced lifestyle. No need for cars and always something to do if interested.”
"Everything you need within walking distance! Amazing public transport links.”
"Great transport links to campuses, accommodation, beaches and shops. There’re mumbles which is where you can enjoy walks and ice cream, plenty of beaches and places to walk which you can get to by bus and the marina. There’s popular wind street with loads of clubs and bars always bustling even now!”

Swansea provides dozens of options for those wanting to try something new, whether for recreational purposes, social reasons, or to develop skills for future careers. The university encourages and support the creation of new clubs and societies where they are not currently established.
Swansea University students on Whatuni say:
"Over 200 societies and 60 sports teams! Available for any levels on a weekly basis.”
"These societies are advertised everywhere so it is really easy to find out what’s going on and who to contact if you want to get involved. As the majority are run by current students, they are activities which work really well around your studies and allow you to engage with students across different courses.”
"Pitches and sport facilities are available to anyone and have recently been relayed so they are at a world-class standard.”
“There’s so many societies and none of them will turn you away. You can tryout at trials or just join as a social member if you want. The social events on Wednesday nights are so much fun. Join a society, take a mate if you're scared or message someone from the Facebook page beforehand, but just bite the bullet and join!!”
Swansea University understands that the transition to living independently while undertaking university level study can be challenging and is committed to providing an excellent level of support for all students. The university is highly regarded for its range of support services, which include:
