The Students' Union prides itself on being the biggest student employer in the area, employing over 200 students in a variety of roles and organising the many clubs and societies at the university. The union also operates a number of on-campus venues and recently came second in the country in the 'Best Bar None' scheme.
Verve
The university’s ultimate all-day venue. It has an American diner/bar feel, and hosts lots of live music, society events and fresh dining.
LRV
Staffordshire University’s main nightclub, with weekly student nights catering to a range of music tastes. The space transforms during the day for dance practice, vintage fairs and family-friendly days.
Ember Lounge
Specialising in fresh, locally sourced ingredients, Ember Lounge is a food and drink venue with a 50ft projection screen.
Squeeze Box
A vibrant spot, serving fresh-fruit smoothies, juices and a range of teas and coffees and food, from breakfast to lunch and dinner.
Staffordshire University students on Whatuni say:
“The student union has done a pretty good job and were exceptional during the covid-19 lockdown. They helped reduce the load on students who's assignments became a lot tougher without the specialist equipment they required. They also provide great events like club night and also provide the union shop aswell”
“The student support team has been great at responding to emails with any issues we have at home during our remote learning.”
“The social side is great.”
There are around 100 different clubs and societies with something for everyone. There are things for active minds, like the Law Society and the Forensic and Crime Science Society – and things for active bodies, like the Football Club and the Snowsports Club. There’s even something for active thumbs in the Video Games Society. From arts and music to politics, there’s something for everyone. There’s even a Dank Memes society!
There are also Give it a Go and volunteering programmes, where students can get involved in one-off activities locally and on-campus.
Staffordshire University students on Whatuni say:
“The variety is great, there is something for everyone and you can also start your own society if nothing appeals to you.”
“Good choices”
“I'm glad there's a wide variety”
Stoke-on-Trent is home to six towns; Stoke, Fenton, Longton, Tunstall, Burslem and Hanley. Staffordshire University’s city campus is just a 15-minute walk to Stoke-on-Trent’s city centre; Hanley.
The city centre sees continued investment, making it more and more popular for students. Intu Potteries is a fantastic shopping destination with high street shops and a new leisure complex, The Hive, with plenty of places to refuel and refresh.
The Centres of Excellence are both located in great towns; Shrewsbury is an hour away and Stafford is 30 minutes from the city of Stoke-on-Trent and close to fabulous countryside. And because they’re in the centre of the country, students have easy access to London and other cities such as Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds.
Staffordshire University students on Whatuni say:
“The location is ideal, town is in walking distance and the accommodation is right next to the campus”
“Nearby shops and train station”
“Location is good”
