Over the last few years, £100m investments have been made to the campus, introducing state-of-the-art facilities to enhance student learning. ASK A QUESTIONAt Solent, there are more than 1,200 single study-bedrooms spread across five different halls of residences. These are all located within easy distance of each other and are within walking distance of the campus and the city centre. Parking is available at each residence, however, it’s worth knowing that because the halls are in such close proximity to everything, a car isn’t necessary.
Solent’s five student residences cater to a range of requirements and are great places to work, relax and meet new friends. The majority of university-owned accommodation is reserved for first-year students, but there are also provisions for returning students, postgraduates, officer cadets and summer students. While prices vary depending on accommodation choice, the rent includes bills and internet, and kitchen facilities are shared.
Deanery residence is made up of 422 en-suite bedrooms which are separated into flats of seven, eight or 10. There is a common room which features Sky TV, a DVD player and pool and a table football along with vending machines. This accommodation has secured bicycle storage, a laundry room and a dedicated room that can be used as a private study area. For a standard en-suite room, rent is £5,712 (£136 per week) for a standard 42 weeks residence period.
The Kimber residence is the closest accommodation to the main university campus and has 274 en-suite bedrooms that were refurbished in 2017/18. It has a laundry room and a common room with Freeview and DVD player and three designated study pods with multimedia screens to assist group and individual work within the residence. Students can expect to pay £6,132 (from £146 per week) for a superior en-suite room of £6,552 (£156) for a large superior en-suit space. This accommodation has standard 42 weeks residence period.
David Moxon is located near the City campus and is the closest residence to the East Park Terrace campus. Reserved as a quieter residence, it offers accommodation for first year students and officer cadets. All 117 study-bedrooms are en-suite. Rent is £5,712 (£136 per week) for a standard 42 weeks residence period.
The Hamwic student residence has 228 en-suite study-bedrooms, which were refurbished in 2019. Just 10 minutes from the main university campus, this accommodation offers students a common room, a laundry room, and designated quiet areas. Rent is from £5,712 (from £136 per week) for a standard en-suite room across a standard 42 weeks residence period.
Chantry residence has 208 single study-bedrooms and a large common room for meeting up with friends or a quick game of pool. Both en-suite and non en-suite rooms are available for first-year undergraduates, second and third-year students, postgraduates and exchange students Rent is from £4,662 (£111 per week) for a non en-suite room for a standard 42 weeks residence period.

Solent Students’ Union ensures that students are heard at every level of the university, represent a diverse range of groups, and is an essential link between students and academic staff. The Students’ Union team and course representatives are annually elected by the students themselves.
The Students’ Union Advice Service offers access to free, confidential and impartial advice from the Academic Caseworker on issues affecting a student's academic experience whilst at Solent. This may include issues with academic misconduct, extenuating circumstances, appeals, complaints and examination results. The Academic caseworker can also act as an advocate accompanying students to formal meetings and panels to ensure that every individual is given the opportunity to raise their views and be treated fairly.

There are over 40 societies which are run through the students’ union, and the university’s students can join any number of them through their website using a student login. Societies are split into subject categories, religious beliefs, ethnicity and nationalities, languages, hobbies, sporting and more.
For students unable to find a suitable society to join, the SU makes it possible to create your own. A student will need just eight signature from fellow students that would like to be a part of the new society, and the VP Engagement officer will be on hand to offer advice on setting up.

Southampton is one of the south coast’s most vibrant cities, and Solent places students at its centre. There is something for everyone, from beautiful city centre parks and an electric night-time economy to a thriving art and music scene.
Moving away from Westquay (one of the UK’s largest shopping centres) and towards the waterfront, students will find a hub of independent eateries, venues and stores. At the other end of the city is Bedford Place, the centre of the city’s nightlife and home to a huge range of pubs and clubs.
It’s a short trip to the famous beaches of Bournemouth or the ancient streets of Winchester. Southampton Airport offers students an ideal ticket to the rest of the UK or even Europe. And of course, London is just a short train ride away.

The university is committed to encouraging applications from under-represented groups by providing a limited number of means-tested financial support. Find out more about the Solent University bursary scheme.
Academic merit scholarships (UK and International)
This scholarship is worth between £500 and £2,000, this scholarship rewards applicants who have demonstrated outstanding academic ability in their final school or college exam results. The university also offers a scholarship to full-time overseas, EEA and EU students who exceed the entry criteria for their course.
The Lisa Wilson scholarship
Set-up in memory of their daughter, Lisa, the Wilson family developed this scholarship with Solent to help young people with the cost of higher education.
There are four scholarships for new students applying to FdA, HND or BA/BSc degree courses. The scholarships, up to the value of £1,000 are available to students who have overcome adversity and can demonstrate why they need extra financial help with their studies.
Sport scholarships
These are awarded to athletes competing in a variety of sports at a national level and above, including - but not exclusively - basketball, cricket, football and athletics. The university scholarship offers in this area range from performance club offers to up to £5,000. As a scholar, students can expect to receive financial assistance towards academic fees and be able to take advantage of a support package worth up to £2,500. Academic fees are covered at 100% or 50% by the university for each successful applicant.

The world is your oyster! Of course, the exact options open to you will depend on which subject you choose to study. Employers often look to hire graduates, so you can be sure that your degree will give you a wider range of employment opportunities.
No matter what degree you choose, however, you'll have option of going on to further study. If you want to keep studying, your undergraduate degree will enable you to go on to a master's degree or even a PhD.
