Newcastle University’s Students’ Union (NUSU) is run by students for students. A hub of extracurricular life on campus, the union is available 24 hours a day throughout the academic year - from freshers’ week to graduation.
The NUSU represents the voice of its student membership and organises the many clubs and societies at the university. Services include:

There are over 200 societies and clubs to join at Newcastle University. Consistently branded “friendly”, “welcoming” and “sociable”, there’s something for everyone from arts and sport to DJ’ing, debating, and baking. Many of the societies have received awards for their various achievements and have a reputation for throwing fantastic end-of-year celebrations.
Plus, if students can’t find a society that suits them or they have a particular passion they want to celebrate, the SU makes it easy for new groups and clubs to be formed.
Newcastle’s Students’ Union “Give It a Go” programme offers one-off taster activities to help students make the most of their spare time, while the Campus League programme means students can try a new sport or hobby under the guidance and support of coaches, with no experience or commitment necessary.

Newcastle is a great university city with one in six residents enrolled as a student, resulting in a bustling social scene and plenty to explore and discover. The city itself is dynamic, multicultural and safe, with friendly and welcoming locals.
Newcastle has a huge selection of shops, cafés, and places to eat and drink, and plenty of after-hours entertainment and nightlife. Students can choose to go boutique bowling or play virtual golf, to visit comedy clubs, get involved with immersive theatre and poetry readings, or take in a film on the big screen.
The cost of living in Newcastle is comparatively low. In fact, Newcastle is ranked in the top ten most affordable cities in the UK (QS Best Student Cities 2022). Newcastle is well connected to the rest of the UK and beyond, with London less than three hours by train. It also has an international airport with low-cost flights to a huge choice of destinations.
