Accommodation
Full-year undergraduate and postgraduate taught students are guaranteed accommodation in their first year (eligibility criteria apply).
Rooms offering both catered and self-catering options are available in university-owned or managed-partnership residences. All accommodation is located close to campus and the city centre – easily reached on foot, or by reliable, fast and frequent public transport.
From vibrant student villages to traditional halls and modern city-centre residences, there’s a style of accommodation to suit all students and budgets. Couples, family, and accessible accommodation is also available.
On-site support in university-owned accommodation (office hours only), CCTV, entry phone systems and help points ensure residences are safe and secure. The university security team is on call 24/7 and free app, SafeZone, connects students directly to on-campus security.
A dedicated Accommodation team and ResLife programme of support, activities, socials and life-skills classes, help students settle into university life.
The university offers a bookable Airport Meet and Greet Service for international students – welcoming students at Newcastle International Airport and taking them to their student accommodation.

Facilities
Newcastle University continues to invest millions in its city-centre campus to create a first-class student and research environment. On- and off-campus subject-specific facilities are 5-star (QS Stars 2023) and include:
- two commercial farms and a biological field station
- a sea-going research vessel, coastal station and marine lab
- high-specification labs and clinical skills suites
- media, music and art studios
- smart grid lab and energy storage test bed
- translation and interpreting suites

Due to open in 2024, the £110m Stephenson Building will provide an engineering hub for world-leading research and education.
Learning is also enhanced by the university’s partnership in the £350 million Newcastle Helix, a global centre for science, technology, research and education. This site hosts Newcastle University’s triple-accredited Business School and the Urban Sciences Building which is home to the School of Computing.
A multi-award-winning library service is based across four libraries on campus offering extensive print and e-resources, Special Collections of rare books and manuscripts of historical significance, innovative learning spaces and PC clusters.
The university has also recently invested £32m in exceptional indoor and outdoor sports facilities including state-of-the-art equipment and training spaces.
