All students are automatically part of the Manchester Metropolitan Students’ Union, one of the largest of its kind in the UK. With student welfare and clubs and societies across all disciplines, the SU is in the heart of the campus.
Decked out with the student essentials including a shop, café and event venue the SU is also home to a team of full-time student officers too. These are the five students, elected each year, who represent Manchester Met students both nationally and internationally.
Manchester Met has more than 130 clubs and societies, including sports, hobbies, academic, cultural, political and many more interests suitable for every student. Manchester Met sports teams play against other UK Universities and Colleges in competitive matches. The University also offers more relaxed alternatives, such as non-competitive options. Drop-in sessions are free for students to try something new, and provide an easy opportunity to make friends outside your course and halls.
Activities are more than just sport-related – charity work, social trips and much more are all provided through Manchester Met societies, with the largest society to date being the Islamic Society.
Manchester is often considered one of the best cities in the UK for students. Manchester is a hub of culture both past and present, and is a leading city for music with a dynamic welcoming atmosphere. It is a patriotic and proud city, home to more than 99,000 students. Manchester has been ranked the third best city in the world* and is a wonderful place to learn.
The city’s vibrant and varied districts, all have something different to offer and within walking distance of each other and the University campus. Many students choose to live in Manchester even after their studying has finished, proving the electricity of the city doesn’t dull over time. Transport links are easy and quick, and nightlife caters to all tastes. Pubs, clubs, restaurants, museums and many more attractions are found in the dozens.* Time Out 2021
