The Students’ Union plays a large role in the lives of its student population. As well as being the voice of its students, and an approachable and supportive provider of welfare and advice, it also acts as one of the major organisational hubs for clubs and societies, social activities and sporting events.
Sports teams include badminton, football, cricket, and rugby, and there are a growing number of social societies such as film, baking, and politics and feminist groups. The university runs a welcome week and many regular events throughout the year, including a summer ball and live music at the SU bar.
The SU works very hard to fairly represent the diverse and multinational community of students at the university. It runs regular forums across both campuses to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to participate in discourse, and also runs Global Hope, an international educational charity which offers opportunities to travel and work to help communities on behalf of LSU.
