Leeds Trinity University traces its origin to the early 1960s when teacher training colleges were established in Leeds. They offer an excellent selection of postgraduate courses in subject areas as diverse as the Arts and Humanities and Sport and Religion.
Leeds Trinity University was founded in 1966 as two Catholic teacher training colleges, Trinity College for women and All Saints College for men. It then became a university college in 2009, before gaining university status in 2012. It’s a small uni, with around 5,000 students studying there.
The uni is based on one campus in Horsforth, around six miles north of the city centre of Leeds and you can get into Leeds easily by train, in just 12 minutes. There’s also plenty to do on campus, with multiple food and drink outlets, including the Studio Bar, which has a pool table, shows live sports and hosts various social events.
Other campus facilities you can enjoy include a sports and fitness centre, which has something for all abilities, a media centre, and religious spaces. You’ll also be able to take advantage of confidential advice services for sexual and mental health, including CBT sessions and workshops about topics like stress, anxiety and wellbeing.
Of course, being at Leeds Trinity, you’ll be able to spend loads of time in the student-friendly, exciting city that is Leeds. It’s known as one of the best student cities in the UK, with a busy nightlife scene, legendary live music opportunities and loads of cultural activities. You’re also within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales, giving you the chance to get out of the city and into the green countryside, where you can take part in outdoor activities like walking and hiking.
Excellent transport links make it easy to travel to other major UK cities by train and coach, and you can easily reach Leeds Bradford Airport which is close by. A free shuttle bus connects the campus with the nearest train station and other local amenities.
There are around 90 undergraduate courses to choose from at Leeds Trinity University, spread across several schools, like Sport & Wellbeing, Psychology & Therapeutic Studies, Law, Business, and more.
Most students study full-time, but some courses are available to do part-time if you need to flexibly fit your studies around other life priorities. For example, you could study sport and exercise sciences or sports coaching full-time over three years or part-time over six years.
Typically, full-time undergraduate degrees at Leeds Trinity take three years to study, but a number of courses include a foundation year, increasing the course length to four years. Also, some courses are delivered over just two years, allowing students to get a full Bachelor’s degree in a shorter space of time. Physical Education and School Sport BA is an example of a two-year degree you can do at Leeds Trinity.
Some degrees include optional modules, as well as core modules, meaning you can study the degree topics you’re most interested in.
As a minimum, Leeds Trinity asks for at least five qualifications, two of which need to be Level 3 (i.e., A-level or equivalent), and one must be a GCSE of grade 4/C or above in English.
The grade requirements are shown in UCAS points, which can be made up using several types of qualification, like A-levels and BTECs. You can find each degree programme’s specific grade requirements online on the uni’s course search pages. We’ve also given you an idea of what you’ll need to study certain subjects below.
To get onto a degree in business, accounting or finance, for example, you’ll probably be asked for 128–112 UCAS points, or around 48 points if you do a course with a foundation year. For communication & media courses, you’ll need 128–104 points, or 48 if you do a foundation year, and for health & medicine degrees it’s 128–96 points, or 48 if you do a foundation year.
It should be noted that entry requirements can change so you should always confirm these with the university before applying.

Leeds Trinity is dedicated to helping increase the job prospects of its students and graduates in a number of ways. For a start, all courses are geared towards students’ future working lives. Many of the courses are professionally accredited, meaning employers and professional bodies will recognise your qualification and you’ll be learning things that are relevant to industry. Small class sizes also mean that each student can get a good level of individual attention.
Additionally, all Leeds Trinity degrees offer a mix of employability skills and professional placements, giving students real-life work experience and connections. Unlike many other unis, Leeds Trinity work placements don’t take a full year and are instead incorporated into the main degree period. The myFuture service will work with you to help find and get work placements during your time at uni.
The myFuture service also allows students to get advice and guidance through one-to-one appointments and drop-in sessions, as well as employability workshops. These are a great way to develop important skills, as well as find out more about career-related things like writing your CV, doing well at interviews and networking. The myFuture service is available to you during your studies and for three years after graduation.
Leeds Trinity offers a range of bursaries and scholarships to help students who meet certain eligibility criteria fund their studies and living costs while at uni. Scholarships and bursaries don’t need to be repaid.
The Leeds Trinity Bursary, for example, is a cash award of £1,000 for second-year students who are eligible and come from a household with an annual income of £25,000 or less. This bursary is allocated automatically to qualifying students and therefore doesn’t need to be applied for.
The Academic Achievement Award is also worth £1,000 and is offered during the first year of study to students who get AAB, or better, at A-level (or equivalent qualification). Again, you don’t need to apply for this funding.
There’s also funding available for students who’ve lived in care and students who are seeking asylum in the UK.
You can find out about all the scholarships and bursaries available, as well as their eligibility criteria, by visiting the uni’s online funding pages.
