Located at a stunning waterside site in London’s Canada Water, The Engineering & Design Institute London (TEDI-London) is an innovative new higher education provider with a specialised schedule of engineering courses designed to educate the engineers of tomorrow.
TEDI-London exclusively teaches engineering. With programmes offered at undergraduate, diploma and certificate of higher education levels, courses offer comprehensive learning pathways spanning many different fields of engineering including mechanical, electrical and electronic, civil, environmental, and product design.
The institute’s purpose-built Canada Water campus is itself an exercise in modular design and sustainability, boasting a selection of state-of-the-art Makerspaces furnished with industry-quality equipment and technologies. Its facilities include spaces for theoretical learning and practical application, as well as plenty of provision for individual and group study areas, and recreational zones.
The institute is formed as a joint enterprise between Arizona State University (ASU), King’s College London and UNSW Sydney, as a means to provide a more inclusive and adaptable engineering course which encourages creative problem solving in the pursuit of innovative solutions to some of the biggest global challenges faced by society.
TEDI-London students work in a team-oriented project-based environment, supplemented by an online programme of theoretical knowledge which encourages both group work and independent learning. The institute’s approach to tuition is aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, which include work into clean and accessible energy, solutions, sustainable cities and communities, enhanced health and well-being, and mitigating the effects of climate change.
TEDI-London is fast becoming an exciting and disruptive force within engineering education today. The traditional lecture format is replaced with hands-on project work, with progression modelled along an online learning environment. Practical work is supported by group work and one-to-one mentoring, with plenty of contact time between individual students and staff members.
These projects are oriented around key themes such as sustainable energy, robotics and computing, and smart cities, and are delivered via workshops, group seminars, and skills masterclasses in TEDI-London’s brand new and highly advanced Makerspaces. In addition to the core engineering modules, students will learn about sustainable design, business practices and professional ethics, resulting in a well-rounded and versatile education that prepares them for their professional lives.
