Edge Hill is one of the UK’s largest providers of postgraduate programmes, and offers a wide range of MA, MSc, MBA, PGCE, PGDip, and PGCert courses covering a variety of subject areas. Programmes are delivered through the university’s three faculties: Education; Arts & Sciences; and Health, Social Care and Medicine.
Programmes are designed to immerse students in their subject, whether they are looking to deepen their knowledge and strengthen techniques gained at undergraduate level or are looking to explore exciting new career paths.
Students will feel inspired and challenged throughout the duration of their course. Armed with excellent links to regional and national employers, graduates will have the connections to stand out in their chosen field to achieve their ambitions. Students can expect to attend a combination of lectures and seminars along with supervised coursework and assessment by examinations and a dissertation. Edge Hill has invested heavily in creating a dynamic learning environment where research makes a real impact in transforming people’s lives. Their research strategy is committed to producing insights that make a positive contribution to society, culture and the economy. Performing strongly in the Research Excellence Framework (REF, 2014), all subject areas featured ‘internationally excellent’ or ‘world leading’ research.
The university offers three routes into a research degree: MRes (Master’s by Research), PhD (Doctor of Philosophy), and Professional Doctorate. Programmes are tailored to maximise employability, with 100% of postgraduate research students entering employment or further education within 6 months of graduating (PRES, 2018). On successful completion of a research degree, graduates will be equipped with the specialist skills and knowledge to cope with the demands of research to succeed in their field or academic career.
To help postgraduate students prepare for doctoral level study, the university offers a Postgraduate Certificate in Research, which students study before commencing their PhD. This standalone qualification provides students with an opportunity to develop their research project idea and explore proposed methodologies, making sure it aligns with their professional development goals.
