DMU has a lively and very active Students’ Union, which is an independent, self-run organisation dedicated to supporting the 25,000 members which make up the entire student body.
The Students’ Union is the representational voice of its membership, and reflects the diversity of the student population, organising a wide range of clubs and societies to suit all activities and interests. There are many social initiatives to participate in, from student support groups, to community action programs, and a strong culture of social activism.
The Students’ Union offers plenty of opportunities for students to get involved at an organisational level, taking an active role in the running of the learning community and broadening the scope of their education and experience.

The Students’ Union organises more than 150 societies and sports clubs, providing a huge selection of activities and interests for students to enjoy with like-minded individuals. The university offers everything from app development to yoga, and many culture and faith based societies to support a thriving international community of around 2,700 students representing over 120 countries worldwide.
DMU has over 40 competitive sports teams, which bring opportunities to compete with other universities from across the UK, through the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) organisation. The Students’ Union enjoys access to many superb facilities which the university offers, as well as running their own bar and event space.

The city has been named the best place in the country for tech start-ups, and DMU is rated top in the UK for building careers, with award winning support and over 200 local employment partners. Initiatives like Leicester1000 are offered through DMU Works, placing graduates in highly skilled jobs.
Leicester has great public transport networks, with easy access to the countryside and other UK cities.
