CU Scarborough is located by the coast in North Yorkshire. Part of the Coventry University Group, it opened to students in 2015 and offers vocational focused courses designed to provide students with the skills they need in the workplace. In 2019 the institution taught just over 600 students.
Courses are flexible – with both full-time and part-time study options – with lower tuition fees than other institutions, making an education here accessible to all.

CU Scarborough’s cutting-edge £14m campus opened in September 2016, with a brand-new drama studio introduced in 2019, to support the needs of BA (Hons) Acting students. Set in a picturesque coastal location, the building features engineering labs, a mock law court, IT suites, a library, a fully equipped clinical skills facility and many flexible individual and collaborative learning spaces.
Coventry University received a Gold ranking in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), for its outstanding teaching, learning environment and student outcomes.
All courses taught at CU Scarborough have a vocational focus and are designed to fill the skills gaps that are currently found within the job market. These include transferable skills such as problem-solving, organisation and communication skills.
This career-focus is successful, with 97% of Coventry University Group graduates being either in employment or further study six months after graduation (DLHE survey 2016/17).
Alongside career-focused courses, CU Scarborough provides students with a dedicated Careers & Employability service, where students can get help in securing work experience and internships, writing their CV and cover letter and preparing for interviews.
Students also have access to an industry mentoring scheme and volunteering opportunities via the Students’ Union. There is also an annual Careers Fair held at CU Scarborough, where students can network with employers.
The courses at CU Scarborough have been designed to fit the needs of students. A range of degree courses are offered, alongside foundation and access to higher education courses. Both full-time and part-time study options are available, making them accessible to all.
CU Scarborough offers a slightly different method of studying than you’ll find elsewhere - students study just one module at a time, in six-week long blocks, so they can focus completely on each area. Students are also assessed at the end of these blocks, with no end of year exams to complete.
Class sizes are kept small, so students can benefit from a more personalised education. There is plenty of careers support available too, to help students reach their full potential.
All students studying at CU Scarborough become part of the Coventry University Students’ Union. You can access information and advice from the student elected officers on a wide variety of issues, and be represented regarding any complaints or disciplinary matters etc.
CU Scarborough also has its own groups and societies that you can get involved with to keep you busy in your spare time, and to help you meet friends with similar interests.
Accommodation is available through the CU Scarborough partnership with FutureLets. There are three options in the town:
Located just a short walk from the campus, Aberdeen House has been a popular choice for students for over 15 years. It’s also conveniently located just a short walk to the shops, train station and the other local amenities of Scarborough’s town centre.
It offers students a clean, modern, safe and friendly place to live and study. Accommodation is self-catering, with single en-suite bedrooms and shared common areas, including on-site laundry facilities. Utilities such as gas and electricity, and superfast Wi-Fi is included in the rental price.
Located on Scarborough’s South Bay and located close to the town centre with its shops and supermarkets, Crawford House is a popular halls of residence.
There are 22 en-suite bedrooms available with spacious shared kitchen and communal areas, including laundry machines and storage. Utilities (gas, electricity, water and internet) and communal cleaning are included in the rent. Security staff are also on call every day, so you can be assured you are living in a safe, clean environment.
Recently refurbished in 2019, Islands House is four separate houses combined in to one. Each house (Shetland, Orkney, Lewis and Skye) has en-suite bedrooms and its own communal dining, kitchen and laundry areas. All utilities are included in the rent, as is Wi-Fi and use of the laundry facilities.
Islands House is located just a mile from the campus and Scarborough’s town centre, giving students easy access to all the amenities they need.

The campus also features breakout spaces and a café. Here you can relax, socialise and enjoy great food. The space has been designed to encourage collaborative working, so that you can grab a coffee and discuss ideas with other students.

Scarborough is a town found on the North Yorkshire coastline. There’re beautiful beaches to be explored, a medieval castle overlooking the town, a new waterpark close by, and an open air theatre that attracts big musical acts. There’s a lot of independent food and drink outlets in the town, and a great selection of shops to choose from too.
There are a range of sports clubs and societies at CU Scarborough, including foreign languages, LGBTQIA+, gaming and more. If you can’t find a society you want to join, support and encouragement is given to set up your own.
