Overview

Brit College is an award-winning independent higher education provider based near Canary Wharf in East London. The College was established in 2006 and delivers a range of graduate and postgraduate level qualifications across a variety of subject areas, and from a range of Qfqual recognised awarding bodies to home and international students. Brit College has offered the BTEC HND Business programme for local students since 2012. The College has successfully supported students in attaining this qualification, many of whom, have progressed to top-up degree programmes and even subsequent postgraduate level study. Brit College has a bronze Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) award and is a registered higher education provider with the Office for Students and the UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). The college is also registered with the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA),and is accredited with Pearson and OTHM to deliver higher education courses.

Brit College strives to remove barriers to education and tackle social and economic inequality. All learners are welcome – especially mature students who have missed out on higher education opportunities. Brit College has received BTEC College of the Year, BTEC Tutor of the Year, and BTEC Student of the Year awards from Pearson, and an award for widening access and participation from Independent HE, sponsored by QAA.

Brit College has a strong commitment to providing opportunities for students who might not otherwise have been able to study for higher education qualifications. In particular, the College has supported BAME students from the local communities to successfully achieve HE qualifications to support their personal and professional aspirations.

Brit College has recently developed a range of online programmes in conjunction with OTHM as means of providing further access to higher education for local and international students. The College is also seeking to develop new partnerships with Universities to offer Foundation degree programmes in range of subjects.

The range of online OTHM Diploma courses offered by Brit College, provides students with the opportunity to gain valuable skills, knowledge and qualifications in key subject areas. These courses also give learners the opportunity to study while in full time employment and “earn as they learn”. The college widening participation strategy targets people from diverse backgrounds and abilities and aims to bring everyone together to learn, collaborate and grow.

Learn to Succeed

OTHM is the well-established UK based Awarding Organisation, recognised by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) and Qualifications Wales. Brit College is accredited with OTHM, to provide a range of flexible learning programmes from RQF level 3 Foundation Diplomas to RQF level 7 postgraduate level Diplomas to help learners achieve success in their careers and access higher education. As part of our Higher Education on Demand initiative the college offers a range of flexible learning courses, to help learners gain skills and qualifications and achieve success.

Teaching is structured around the individual requirements of learners. The student engagement approach puts students at the centre of the college’s efforts. Highly qualified and experienced teaching staff lead courses and are committed to widening access and participation in higher education.

The college offers the following online programmes:

Access level:

  • OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Business Studies
  • OTHM Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Higher Education Studies
  • OTHM Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Accountancy

Undergraduate Level

  • OTHM Level 4 Diploma in Business and Management
  • OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Business and Management
  • OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Business and Management

Postgraduate Level

  • OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership

 

About OTHM Diplomas

OTHM qualifications at RQF Level 3 represent practical knowledge, skills, capabilities and competences that are assessed in academic terms as being equivalent to GCE AS/A Levels. The OTHM Foundation Diplomas offer learners an entry route onto higher education courses such as the HND and undergraduate degree courses.

OTHM Level 4 Diplomas are equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree programme or the HNC. Learners who successfully achieve the level 4 Diploma can access OTHM Level 5 Diplomas, which are the equivalent to the second year of an undergraduate degree or HND, and provide an entry route to top-up degree programmes.

Learners who complete the level 5 Diploma can access the Level 6 Diplomas, which are equivalent to the final year of a degree. Learners who successfully complete the Level 6 Diploma can access Level 7 Diploma and other post-graduate level courses.

OTHM postgraduate diplomas are 120 credit taught courses at level 7 - the same level as Masters degrees. Successful learners who achieve the Level 7 diploma may complete a 60 credit research dissertation to achieve a full Masters or MBA degree with a University. See the OTHM website for full details.

These are self-funded programmes which are not eligible for funding from the Student Loans Company. The College will offer these programmes at affordable fee levels, with flexible finance options and discounts available to promote widening access and participation. These programmes will be open to both UK and International students through online flexible learning.

English Language support

Brit College considers English Language proficiency as a valuable transferrable skill for work and life. We work in partnership with the London Language Foundation, (a British Council accredited centre) to offer our students a range of ESOL courses including IELTS preparation and one-to-one English tuition.

Brit College is based on Limehouse Campus in the historic limehouse basin in East London a short distance from both Central London and the Canary Whark financial district. The campus facilities support student learning including modern teaching spaces, extensive study resources and useful ITC amenities.

Staff at Brit College use a wide range of methods to guide learning including lectures, seminars, presentations, tutorials, masterclasses and employer visits. Teaching is supported by technology and equipment that elevates the learning experience.

All students can use the e-learning tool, Moodle. This is a virtual learning environment with course materials and study resources. Brit College has expanded and further developed our VLE to support online learning for our distance and blended learning courses.

Brit College has a large range of student support services available designed to help and ensure learners have the best educational experience possible.

Students play an active role in their learning, but they are assigned personal tutors to guide them throughout their college journey. Staff are helpful, friendly and eager to assist students with reaching their goals.

There is also support for students outside of their learning, in areas including:

Brit College strives to provide an inclusive learning environment that meets the requirements of all members of the college community. There are flexible and creative learning opportunities, and student representatives who raise and address student issues.

Brit College has demonstrated that students from diverse backgrounds can succeed with the proper support and guidance and is now extending this approach to their online learning courses.

Courses are comprised of units and modules with credit values.

These are in line with regulated frameworks and have a required number of Guided learning Hours (GLH). Fees cover all units and modules in a course as well as fees to awarding bodies, admissions, registration and student support.

The following online courses with 60 credits have a fee of £650:

  • OTHM Diploma in Business Studies
  • OTHM Foundation Diploma in Accountancy.

 

The following online courses with 120 credits have a fee of £1,200:

  • OTHM Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies
  • OTHM Diploma in Business Management
  • OTHM Diploma in Strategic Management.

Discounts are available, and all fees are subject to change.

Brit College offers discounts on some of its online diploma courses. This is to promote widening access and participation in higher education. It also offers a discount to those studying the online OTHM Diploma in Business Management (levels 4–6) who have studied at the college before.

The online OTHM diplomas are not eligible for student loans support and are therefore available to self-financing students, or those sponsored by their employer.

The Brit College online learning diplomas are awarded by OTHM. Entry requirements

For most courses, students must be aged 18 or over at the beginning of their studies.

Online learning courses

Students will need:

  • OTHM Level 4 Diploma in Business Management – relevant Level 3, GCE/GCSE or equivalent qualification. Mature learners will need management experience.
  • OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Business Management – relevant Level 4 Diploma or equivalent. Mature learners will need management experience.
  • OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Business Studies – demonstrated capability at an accepted level for undertaking the learning and assessment criteria.
  • OTHM Level 3 Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies – demonstrated capability at an accepted level for undertaking the learning and assessment criteria.
  • OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership – an honours degree in a related subject, Level 6 diploma or equivalent. Mature learners will need management experience.

 

Students whose native language is not English will have to provide proof of English language proficiency.
