The Students' Union at UWE Bristol (SU) is an active and vibrant body, run by elected presidents and officers who represent students at UWE Bristol. They attend meetings with university leaders to ensure the student voice is heard across important matters and run campaigns to raise awareness of key issues affecting the student body.
They also work hard to support students make their time at university a positive experience. The SU team helps students find work and organise volunteering and training opportunities to enhance their CVs, while the advice centre provides friendly and confidential advice on academic, accommodation, financial, and general welfare matters.
The SU team also manages UWE Bristol’s sports clubs and societies, and hosts regular activities and events for all students to participate in.
With over 160 clubs and societies to choose from, students are spoilt for choice. The university has over 40 sports clubs, including football, basketball, rowing, snowsports, and cheerleading. Many of the university’s sports clubs participate in BUCS leagues against other universities.
There are 121 current societies covering academic, cultural, faith, special interest, and political campaigning themes. Examples include: Baking, BAME, Drama, Hub Radio, Photography, Quidditch, Video Gaming, and Yoga.
If students cannot find what they’re looking for, they’re encouraged to start up a new one.
Volunteering is also encouraged, and 43% of students at UWE Bristol get involved in the many opportunities available. There is so much to choose from, whether its growing vegetables at the Community Garden on Frenchay Campus, joining a team building playgrounds in Uganda, or supporting the Green Team to help make a positive impact on the environment.
Bristol regularly tops lifestyle polls as being the best place to live in the UK, and is a dynamic, diverse, and forward-thinking city with plenty to stimulate students.
The city has a buzzing arts and culture scene, with plenty of galleries, theatres and historical sites. It also plays host to numerous festivals covering music, comedy, food, art, and even boats.
Bristol is a great place for foodies, with a wide variety of options to suit all taste buds, including a thriving street food and craft beer scene. There is also over 400 parks and gardens in which students can get back to nature.
Bristol is more than a great city, it’s a place to achieve ambitions. The city has a strong financial services sector, a world-renowned creative scene and offers exciting opportunities for budding lawyers due to the commercial law presence in the city. Plus, engineering is big business there, with industry icons like Airbus and Rolls-Royce located in the city.
