ASU – AECC University College’s Students’ Union, prides itself on integration, unity, positivity and representing students. They organise campaigns and events all year round to help students feel at home and to promote a healthy physical and mental lifestyle at university. Some of the most popular ones are Freshers’ Week, The Annual Charity Ball, Wellness Week, Acoustic Nights and more.
The members of ASU have also established a number of sports clubs and societies for every student’s interest, ranging across a wide range of hobbies, physical activities, and cultural and religious groups.
In addition, the ASU take part in many national campaigns and events to raise awareness and promote healthy living amongst the wider society. For those who are interested, students can run for any positions within the ASU.
At AECC University College, students will enjoy a year-round calendar that is packed with exciting social, cultural and entertainment events. In addition to this, students can get involved in their student community by joining one of the many clubs and societies on offer that is run by students, for students. These groups are a great way to make lifelong friends or meet colleagues and peers.
Students will be able to live a fit and active lifestyle through a range of sporting clubs and independent activities that are available carried out across excellent campus gyms and fitness facilities.
Students will enjoy a discount at local BH Live gyms which provide access to a range of facilities including sports pitches, courts, pools and studio spaces.
The university maintains a range of university level sports teams including rugby, football and netball.
If there isn’t a club on the list that represents a student’s particular interests, they are able to talk to the SU about setting it up and receiving support.
Renowned for its seaside atmosphere, there’s a lot to explore in this beautiful coastal town. From award-winning beaches (just 10 minutes’ walk away from the campus), nightlife and sports, to festivals and places of natural and historical interest, there’s plenty to do.
Students can go downtown to Bournemouth square and indulge in a shopping spree, watch a movie at the IMAX Odeon Cinema, or take a relaxing stroll in Bournemouth Gardens. Or they can stay nearer to campus and visit one of Boscombe’s many cozy cafes and restaurants, take a jog in Boscombe Gardens, do some yoga down at the beach or enjoy a sunset while dining in one of the beachfront restaurants.
As a health science institution, most AECC University College students are big on health and make the most of the area. For students who like doing physical activity in the great outdoors, there are many green spaces and parks all around town and of course, a beach is a great place for combining relaxation and a training session.
Another way to keep fit is by joining the on-campus gym, perfect for those busy study days.
Bournemouth also offers many ways to be culturally active – from live concerts, plays, musicals and comedy show at the Pavilion to all blockbusters at the Odeon cinema. There are also many events and festivals taking place all year round. Some of the most popular ones include Arts by the Sea Festival, Bournemouth Air Festival, Christmas Tree Wonderland.
