I am a first year student at York SJ and the Psychology BPS rep. I am really enjoying it. The staff are great, and all well educated within their field - many of them were lecturers at University of York but moved to York SJ and favour the atmosphere here.

do not do a joint degree! It is much better to be involved in a single subject as opposed to mixing one with another. Studying one subject at a time will reduce the blending of subject contents and avoid confusion where you are trying to explain physics in french!

Create a schedule and stick to it. If you want to get a first class degree, treat your studies like a full time job. Stay away from the people who keep you down, correspond with professors and take your first year SERIOUSLY. Find ways to keep yourself motivated and always remember why you are pursuing a degree in the first place.

Things I wish I would known from the start? That Wikipedia will become your best friend. That it is acceptable to nap in the library. it is OK to 'borrow' toilet roll and ketchup from the pub! Also to YSJ specifically, the sports ground is the best place to go for socials!!
