The annual Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) highlight the incredible work carried out by institutions for their students. Due to Covid restrictions, this year’s awards were not collected on uni campuses as usual, but instead based on submissions from institutions, which were then judged by our special student panel.

My college experience so far. I started at Walsall College in 3 years ago for my Level 3 course in Graphic Design. I have learnt to use Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and After Effects. I am also retaking GCSE English Language. My whole experience is motivating and achievable. I have achieved lots of Disntctions.
There have some good skills to increase my knowlegde and practical work.
I like historical and contemporary artist research is very interesting throughout my digital coursework. The worst part is digital comminication is torn apart pf my life and I have difficult with my communicationand confidence skils. I have lots of barriers of my deafness life in the future depending on my career.
The college is good building for the environment for welcoming students to enjoy and learning new things to become the dream job in the future to achieve success and goals.
I feel that my personal tutor is complicated and his communication is unclear and would prefer to replace the tutor for me better to understand. I like someone who are flexible and straightforward that will suitable for me in the lesson. I have lots of deaf supports that I can find it very helpful and useful to support my sign language to communicate with hearing people to understand what I have said.
My overall college experience has been good as I have been able to improve in my work and build up confidence.
They have the Job SHop which helps students get into work
I like that they are approachable but I feel they could teach us a bit more instead of leaving us to our own devices.
There is a lot available for students to help us
There are many areas of support offered to students at the college so you know you can always be helped if you need it. As for feedback, I don't think we are given a lot from tutors.
I began in 2015 doing level 3 graphic design with a duration of 2 years, following a year doing HNC level. I have gained good knowledge and skills about the different aspects of design and continue to learn new skills
Provide career drop in sessions to guide us to what job we would like. Provide work experience opportunities.
I like the projects set as i like the outcomes i create for that project. I dont like that sometimes the brief and the grade requirements aren't clearer to understand.
The college facilities could be better, in the department i am in the printers occadionally break, and the computers sometimes stop working
The support is really good as i used to have support, they were tgere if i needed help with anything practical
Mixed views, enjoyable yet depressing. Just because of the amount of work is required which is understandable, so overall i think it is a good experience. Yes.
Gives us real work like logo which will help us promote ourselves.
I like the freedom and at the same time i do not, as sometimes i like more direction and past student examples to see the amount of work we need to aim to produce.
Very good, especially the graphics room as it has macs which is god for graphics. However having the macs makes it a bit annoying for accessing work at home.
The feed back is good and helpful yet i would like more feedback during the course. Like weekly meetings maybe to ask where we are or what we are doing, that way they could look and help us go further.
I’m enjoying it, I’ve been to a few and this one is by far the best. It has everything I need and is local. The facilities are excellent and allow me to carry out my assignments and the tutors are friendly approachable and knowledgable in my subject.
My Uni offers me lots of live photo opportunities, competitions and work placements and pushes us to source our own opportunities.
The course is tailored around each individual, so working with alternative Processes as I do is encouraged. I feel I have support when I need it and plenty of mentoring. I don’t like being pushed into entering competitions that are not relevant to my practice but I can work round this so it’s not a major issue.
They’re good, the working environment is very adequate for what I need.
i always get a quick response so in that respect very good.
Excellent course which keeps me very busy with exciting ventures and avenues to follow up. Giving life/work experiences With wonderful helpful staff and students
All of the mentioned
Something different everyday to work on. sometime stress levels get high
It is very positive, but there is always room for improvements. Even the smallest things that would help us out a lot. Having small classes is a bonus, so we get more contact time with the tutors
Not many lessons to be taught skills
We could do with more to make it easier to complete projects
Every member of staff is very supportive and helps with anything and everything that they can
A bit disappointed really. poor equipment issues and tutor problems nearly stopped me thinking of continuing on with my education. If it wasn't for two of my tutors being so good and great to be around i would off quit long ago. I only chose Walsall college for it's location to my home in the first place. The feedback i read about it before attending was not that good (IT equipment issues).
First year at college, just live briefs for now.
The dark room and Studio equipment is outstanding and the overall teaching is great. Poor IT equipment is an issue at Walsall college and sharing resources with FE students can be a pain. Not all of the tutors give you feed back on your work, so you don't know if you are going in the right direction or not. It was not fully explained to me what the course entailed, i have returned to education after a 30 year working life and was not fully aware of the work load.
The facilities are good, except the library needs more resources.
Two of the tutors are great at giving feedback for your work, but the others are lacking. One of them has never given any feedback for any of the work i have submitted this year yet.
it has been a very good experience so far i am enjoying my time on my course, the help and support that i get during my course helps me do the best that i can and improve
helps us build the skills that we need for work
i like the help and support that we get from the tutors through the course
very good we have access to a lot of different facilities to help us with the course
very good we get regular feedback from tutors to help us with our work
Very enjoyable and rewarding. I have seen the improvement already in my work and know that further things are achievable. I have studied alongside a mixed variety of students and acknowledging their work style has really helped in building my own individuality.
They have job alerts, a jobshop plus we receive notifications of current vacancies. College is also contacted about work experience opportunities as well as networking with other established professionals.
The flexibility and variation of the course and it's contents. It encourages an individual approach to photography so everybody feels that they can achieve no matter what their aspirations are.
Excellent choice of studios to use and equipment. Dark room for black & white processing.
Very good, all-round support of both the student but services there also for personal matters and lifestyle.
