The annual Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) highlight the incredible work carried out by institutions for their students. Due to Covid restrictions, this year’s awards were not collected on uni campuses as usual, but instead based on submissions from institutions, which were then judged by our special student panel.
2021 WUSCA winners
I've really enjoyed it. I've managed to get a good work life balance despite the course being high intensity. I felt encouraged to take up a sport which was really good, and they were really accommodating with placements.
Students are encouraged to complete the 'Worcester award', encouraging volunteering and accessing the careers advisers.
We used evidence based practice, encouraging us to read and find good evidence to then present to the rest of our colleagues
It is really good. There are lots of opportunities for sports and social events.
Fantastic. For a small university our facilities are good.
It's good. It isn't buzzing like some places but there is lots to do and the countryside is only 10 minutes away.
Excellent. There is pretty much every sport going and societies can be set up if there isn't something you want (but there are loads)
Really good. The tutors are there 6+ hours a day. The support is also excellent, and we have resilience lectures sometimes too so the student support services come in to teach us
Course was good, very informative and helped me prepare well for becoming a PE teacher. The support was there when I needed on multiple issues that I faced. The sessions we did at uni came into practice when I was at placement and when visiting me at placement the feedback was detailed
They have constantly offered help and advice on job applications
Mostly placement and online lectures, was as interactive as possible which kept people focused and stopped people switching off. When we could we were in uni which was great, however I think the order of the sessions was silly at times.
Never been to the library, lecture halls were good, Astro and sports hall are ace
My tutor was there whenever I needed and always helped!
Although being in a pandemic has certainly made my second year at university a lot different to what I originally expected, the University of Worcester have made me feel supported along the way regardless. The campus facilities have always been good to go and study in, there’s a wide range of help available and my course, Law LLB, has been amazing despite everything. My lecturers have been really supportive but also delivered content on time and clearly despite everything being online. There is always enough time for them to help me and overall my whole experience has been positive.
I have enjoyed every module and the support offered, it has been intellectually challenging with lots of support where I have needed it. I have gotten involved with multiple societies which has been very beneficial, and supported with mock interviews to get a graduate job.
Talks about employability, support via mock interviews, a module in first year to improve employability. Lots of online workshops like CV workshops.
Teaching is always comprehensive and tutors are always there to help, teaching hours are high compared to other courses and I know I can always contact tutors even outside of those hours.
Buildings always clean, ample study spaces, very close to big library.
Lots of focus on wellbeing and support, haven't personally accessed any support but have heard good reports from friends.
Limited online contact time, too few lectures but lots of online group work. That hasn’t worked well, people feel uncomfortable, don’t have a suitable environment to participate from, poor internet etc. High staff turnover and absences of staff since starting the course is concerning.
We get notified via announcements if NHS trusts have recruitment events.
First cohort of a new programme, severely impacted by the pandemic. Should have been in person teaching but has been mainly online and lots of online group work.
Too many students for the amount of facilities available.
Have not felt supported with the issues I’ve faced that are outside my control.
Amazing students' union. Some amazing tutors, some have not adapted well to online learning though with technical issues causes lots of disruptions and disengaged learning. Some tutors have been lacking with assignment support. Amazing well-being support and academic support options.
Good response to Covid with blended learning. Some tutors better adapted than others.
The library is quite far from the main campus which is very annoying. Lots of study spaces. Generally good facilities

The University has been very supportive and responsive during this period. All students have PATs that they can discuss any University related concerns. Firstpoint is another resource available to students to help with any concern, needs or just someone to help steer you in the direction of assistance that you need.
I feel that, although majority has been online, most lecturers have adapted well to this approach and have managed to make the experience as engaging and as “normal” as possible

A lack of respect and academic integrity left me feeling like a customer more than a student. Being provided the bare minimum product throughout second and third year, just to satisfy governmental requirements. I have had no communication from my course since our last lecture, with no goodbye message and no discussions about what comes next. Some lecturers were amazing and instilled enthusiasm for the subjects while others dismissed all interaction and opted to play pre-recorded sessions. And then have the audacity to state that we had it better off this year due to being able to watch the recordings again. The way online teaching was handled made me want to drop out several times and if not for the provision of mental health services I would have.
Some modules handled the online learning better than others - overall I am content with content delivery though. Sports clubs and the SU have been a slight let down though. I'm also disappointed that I've paid a few months of rent whilst I wasn't living in the house -so that's some money I'm not seeing again. COVID relief funds by the SU were also rather bias - aka if you were in your overdraft (probably due to reckless spending) then you'd be granted money which I though was unfair for students struggling or who had reasonably used their money. I don't think my academic year was 100% worth what I have paid for, but I highly doubt I'm seeing that money again either.
For my course, coaching and job opportunities are sent frequently. If you want guest speakers - you and your fellow course mates need to express and engage with this for senior lecturers to arrange this for you (otherwise they won't do too much).
Some really engaging lecturers, most managed to adapt to COVID restrictions well. When we were able to, blended learning was really helpful to learn during 3rd year
Probably not as good as other universities. But decent enough, all equipment and spaces aren't restricted to lecturer use - so undergrads can use specialist equipment.
Lots of mental health workshops and stuff - though I never attended many. DSA helped with mental health support and academic wellbeing a little more that university from my experience.
