This univeristy is amazing. They offer a lot of support and the courses I am on make sure we are well supported during our time here. However, the location is not the best if you are used to a culturally diverse atmosphere and a big city feel as its quite small and they have recently opened a culturally diverse shop near city campus. Sometimes the support is also a challenge as you can be reported to get support even when you feel like you don't need it and the procedure of this can be really stressful. Overall the univeristy is very much amazing but it might differ depending on your experience and needs.
My course is absolutely amazing the timetabling issues are sorted very quickly. The lecturer are always happy to help and understand personal circumstances can happen and make sure you get the support for anything you need help on. I am so happy I chose law in Worcester. The support and work experience placements that are constantly offered are amazing.
My accomdation is very good. It's spacious and the maintenence is amazing when you have any issues. However, due to a WiFi malfunction that was already known by the third party me and my flat mate were left without WiFi in our rooms for a month which was extremely difficult in our courses. The flay also can have some issues when entering and having to enter maintenance requests as soon as you come in constantly is a bit annoying.
The University of Worcester is a great place to study. There are many options available for support, with bi-weekly therapy dog sessions, and opportunities to chat with wellbeing staff twice a week in a “fancy a cuppa” session. There are lots of events, such as Green Week, and the Colour Mile, where you can take part in activities or go round stalls and participate in making the University a better place. Worcester is a friendly place, and there are many things to do in this small city. It’s inclusive and has a great many shops to explore down the high street. Worcester’s nightlife is mostly students, with Worcester Wednesdays being a chance for the vast amount of clubs and societies to go out on socials and enjoy a night of fun at the local nightclub in town. The campuses are only a 15-20 minute walk away (if you walk fast) and The Hive building is an amazing development, a library that was designed by (and for) the University and the general public. The vast amount of research and study materials available from this building is amazing, and the 4 storey system which promotes different working styles is greatly helpful. With the top floors designed for silent individual work, and the bottom floors designed for group or discussion work, it helps everyone who wishes to study with their preferred noise levels. Some other great buildings include the university arena, located by the river, and the Riverside building, which are used mainly for sport, with gyms and sports halls available to sports societies, and for general use. Other events can also be hosted at the arena (such as Comic-Con) which are always close by and just a short walk from both campuses! Firstpoint is the centre of all issues, with them being first point of contact! Firstpoint is a help desk, which if you have any problem with anything from finance to mental health needs, you can go to them and they will direct you to where you should be. They try to help the best they can, and I’ve often found it very useful. Clubs and societies are probably my favourite part of Worcester, mostly because I joined so many, and because they offer so many unique experiences. From Archery, Fencing, and Pole Fitness, to Cheerleading, Dungeons and Dragons, Gaming, and even two different types of Theatre societies, it gives you so many options to take part in whichever activities suit you! Overall, Worcester truly is an amazing City and University, and I couldn’t imagine myself studying anywhere else…
Geography has many facilities, with a Geo-garden located on campus, and many different opportunities for trips, ranging from exploring Worcester City Centre, to going out to the French and Swiss Alps. There are laboratories on campus which we can use to sort microplastics collected from the beach, and other findings we may collect on our travels. Worcester has a vast amount of geographical history, with the River Severn cutting through the heart of the city allowing us to step off campus and study geography right next to the University. The history of Worcester is also interesting, with visits to the cathedrals surroundings, and discussing the origins of Worcester with lecturers during trips out off campus.
University of Worcester’s halls are, in one word, amazing. There are many options to explore what suits you, from traditional halls to En-suite Extra or Premium, and they have many different features. I especially love the support available, with the ability to talk to the Accommodation Hub (directly on my doorstep) which is ran by students who will help you out with any issues you may have. Maintenance is easily contacted, with the ability to put in online requests for something to be fixed, and usually it’s done the next day! The University also has security situated next to the halls, with a quick call button in one of the University apps, and the security officers tend to range from around campus, all the way out to deal with situations involving students in the City Centre. The Security team truly are amazing, and every so often there will be an event in the student bar which has stalls run by the security team or by the police, which give out free anti-spike equipment, and alarms to attach to bags. This focus on safety and security really helps you to feel secure in your university halls.
Worcester University is expansive and has plenty of campus', resources and support. Unfortunately as a mature student within a partner college, I have not had the desired experience that you would expect. Whether this is capability of our Course Lead or lack of support to our staff from the college/University, I don't know but I am not enjoying my second year, which is a real shame. No-one listens to the issues our cohort have put forward, they are excused or passed around, never really getting resolved. Again, not sure if this is the experience of partner college working but either way, University of Worcester provide this course so it is a reflection on them directly. That said, I love the Uni and it's provision, location and the staff that I've come across have been lovely.
We have had a change in staff recently, not really sure they know what they're doing as I've hardly learnt anything in my second year and feel like I'm winging it. Fingers crossed for a pass!
Great teachers, student facilities and course content overall is positive!
I think more online lectures would be beneficial as we have such a lot to do with placement, assignments etc on a long course. I would for sure benefit from some days being on Microsoft teams rather than in person, as I could fit it into my schedule better as I try to work as much as possible around placement/ University and sometimes it can be very challenging. I did an Access to HE course pre University, and a lot of that was online due to Coronavirus at the time, but this was very successful and I think a more blended learning approach would be beneficial to a lot of students, particularly the ones who live further afield
It is a very welcoming and close-knit campus. Everyone that I have spoken to whether that is staff or students. There are some good facilities on St John's Campus and City Campus. However, there is lack of facilities on Jenny Lind and this needs to be improved. I have been very fortunate in my second and third year I have served as a committee member on a society and networks and believe that these are an important part of the university life here at Worcester. Student support has been valuable to my time studying here including the provision of personal academic tutor and mine has gone above and beyond in my last three years here. Likewise with the counselling and mental health team have also been very useful.
Contact time with lecturers is usually good. Lecturers are on the whole taught in person but it does depend on other factors.
It was good location as it was on the campus I was studying on, had my own bathroom which was good. Cost was quite expensive.
There is plenty of student support through emails and lecturers making us aware of events etc...
There are really good opportunities and facilities, you are taught across most of the campuses such as Lakeside, in the city and St Johns
Great place to study because all three of the campuses are within walking distance from each other making them all accessible and the University treat all students as individuals not just as a collective. Student support in my experience has been amazing because staff really respect students and are willing to support them any way they can
A lot of contact time on this course each module containing a 2 hour lecture and a 1 hour seminar with the availability of tutorials with lecturers to allow for further guidance on assessments or content if needs be. Lecturers are high accommodating and are always happy to help students out.
Best experience is the night life.
Interesting content. Engaging Lecturers. Communication can be difficult with lecturers
Overall I have had a great experience at Worcester. It has a homely feel as the city is quite small, in comparison to other universities the student experience is different; better or worse depending on your preference. If you like going out a lot, you can still do this, however there are really only 2 clubs (although the student nights are brilliant!) . If you're not so worried about nightlife, the city is beautiful with so many interesting places to visit. The new medical building has been an amazing addition to the paramedic course, it is a lovely place to study. I have marked student support down slightly due to issues with communication within my course, however the 'first point' service is invaluable and they cannot do enough to help. The improvements I would suggest are more opportunities to practice clinical skills outside of lecturing hours (you can book rooms but these are limited) and better communication so students feel more supported.
The course has been very well-taught but as we were the first cohort to have the new curriculum understandably there were issues which have been addressed. We rarely have online sessions and when we do they are Q&A style which I find very helpful. More facilities have been added since beginning the course and many improvements have been made which have all enhanced our education. The lecturers are all very passionate about providing us with a high-quality education and often go above and beyond to provide us with brilliant learning experiences. For example, we did a session where we mentored a first-year student for a scenario day and this was a great addition to the module.
I stayed here during my first year, it was great and I met my closest uni friends here. I understand that the price has since been increased - from the very high price that it was when I stayed there. Unfortunately my friend and I experienced a roof leak and were moved out into a different flat, this took many weeks to be sorted and we were heartbroken to be split up from our flat. I felt that the uni could have sorted this issue quicker or offered us some compensation as it very negatively impacted our experience. I am glad I chose to stay in halls to meet my friends and the halls are lovely - however they are not value for money and from our experience the uni are slow to sort out issues regarding maintenance. The price of these particular halls is not affordable for many students and I have found staying in student housing much more affordable.
Amazing sports facilities and teams
Really good engaging course
Really nice rooms feels like home
