The annual Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) highlight the incredible work carried out by institutions for their students. Due to Covid restrictions, this year’s awards were not collected on uni campuses as usual, but instead based on submissions from institutions, which were then judged by our special student panel.

I have made few friends that werent the people i was living with. It was rather isolating as on the twice weekly occasion i did go into uni, everyone had masks on so it was harder to talk to people and make friends. There were no socials or anything so I have yet to join a club or society. The club i did want to join is an indoor sports team but tryouts didnt happen due to covid. Also one senior member of staff on my course refused to help me with an assignment she set when she's supposed to be the expert and always claims that she is there to help. Additionally, housing and finance communicated terribly about refunds and even then I received a lousy amount back that I was not happy with and when I brought this up, they were rude and would not help me understand why they did take most of my money. All in all, this was a terrible first year of university.
I've had no guest speakers. But we were made to do an employability assignment in which my feedback was to go see employability - which i have yet to do
I went in twice a week for a seminar in the first semester and then after that seminars were once or twice a week only. All lecturers were asynchronous
Booking spaces for the library wasnt an issue and the learning facilities were clean and ventalated
Takes weeks to get appointments, and the personal services staffs can be rather brash
Been such a positive and welcoming university. As a small university you get to know the staff really well and each member of staff is so approachable and the quality of their teaching is amazing. As someone who previously dropped out of a university for the quality of their teaching and the lack of support I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of the teaching here at Winchester and can't wait to see what year 2 and 3 has to offer.
Every year I have been onnvaroous placements which is amazing because I have had 1st hand experience in the workplace.
Really good mix of face to face and online teaching. Everyone is taught in small groups which is amazing because it means we can easily form discussions and you get to to know your seminar group really well.
Very covid aware, face marks are worn at all times and desks sanitised before entering. Most of the lectures are all in the same building and due to the size of the uni the library is in close proximity to everything. There is also space in the library just for education students with loads of resources you can use in school.
There is academic support available if you are stuck writing essays which optional and the uni constantly assess your work to then put forward specific people to take part in weekly class with academic support. I however have never used this so do not know what its like.
It’s not bad I’ve loved my practice experience more than my tutoring session and kind of regret not using the nhs apprentice course which offers free training and a paid placement

With the pandemic going most lectures aren’t experienced in tutoring online and don’t know how to engage students in online teaching
To be honest everything is closed so you don’t see as much as you would see on a normal university pandemic free day
This year has definitely been a roller coaster, but I still enjoy it and am looking forward to the journey next year. Winchester still feels like a second home and I'm excited to (hopefully) return to normal lessons on campus in September!
The Uni has its own career service board which sends out weekly emails for new career opportunities and connections to figures in the industry. The uni has had less guest speakers than normal due to covid.
I love studying English in greater depth here, and learning something new with Creative Writing without too much pressure on my degree waiting. However, learning under pandemic restrictions has been difficult to adjust to.
The university has two libraries which have lots of materials and spaces to learn, with group and silent study sections. Though sometimes online materials are minimal and hard to find.
The Uni’s student services team are amazing, and the tutors are always willing to listen and help you if you are in need.
I'm very much enjoying this post-graduate course. I have already been able to put into practice what we are studying in my professional role. The staff are approachable and helpful. The course is designed to be online, so the pandemic hasn't affected the weekly lectures
They've done all they can to make this year as normal as possible and in skmrs ways better as we've had more opportunities from guest speakers abroad to join in on online lessons. Its been different been different but not worse
Usually all in person but since covid it's been live online and some in person hours for practical
It really enjoyable and have made lifelong friends!! They have supported us as students and have done all they can this year to make it as "normal" as possible.
It has been good, with the better teachers pulling the weight for the entire faculty. Communication could be better and mental health support could be too. The library team are fairly good and supportive, though resources are sometimes lacking from the struggle of uploading them online.
The careers team are not helpful, they do not communicate well and instead offer taking an aptitude test to help with career options.
My course has been kept online, while other courses start blended learning. It feels as if this course has been somewhat left behind. Lecturers who have had complaints are still working, which makes many students unhappy. However some people, like our programme leader have been really good in student support.
There are now 2 libraries, and they are nice but the equipment hire could be better, it is hard to get ahold of cameras etc for assignments but overall it is good.
Wellbeing tutors are hard to get ahold of, and money that could be used for students mental health has otherwise been spent on a statue. The mental health services are not incredible, in fact many let them know students need more support and no service is provided
This year has definitely been a roller coaster, but not at the fault of the university. I think that they have done their best to adapt to the world around them and keep students safe and supported. However, my experience as a commuting student will differentiate from a student who has lived on campus or has transferred for international study, where student fees for accommodation and level of accessibility changes.
The university has its own career hub which each student can access with lots of opportunities of job listings and networking opportunities. The uni also gives us notifications for upcoming apprenticeship schemes, guest speakers and work experiences.
Going from fully in-class teaching to 100% blended learning has been difficult for both teachers and students. However, each teacher has tried their best to adapt and keep attentive. The course is very independent with little contact hours in comparison to practical courses.
The university faculties are great, especially the libraries. However, due to covid they have been inaccessible to me. Though some books have online access, there is definitely a drop in quality and accessible this year.
The uni offers lots of wellbeing groups and the student services team is welcoming and easily accessible. With their transfer to online meetings, as well as in person, getting mental health support or just having a friendly face to listen to whatever is going on is easy.
