My courses are well run and organized. Other students seem much less engaged with university though.

Sussex's library is my favourite place to study - the atmosphere is so cosy and comforting, and as a person who struggles with concentration, I am so much more productive there than anywhere else. The campus is well looked after, surrounded by nature, which is very refreshing when resting from uni work. One way I think Sussex could be improved would be by increasing the number of spaces students can sit and relax, chat or study. As a student who doesn't live on campus, my friends and I often struggle to find space, especially during lunchtime, and it often results in hunting for tables and chairs, which eats up a lot of our breaks between lectures. Other than that, my time at Sussex is great and I'm really enjoying my course!

The school has such a warm, friendly vibe. My classmates are always happy to help me out when I’m stuck, so I really feel cared for and at ease here. Everyone’s super motivated about studying and super enthusiastic about activities too—we’re always having a good time together. I love that about this place!

Media Production - BA (Hons)

University rating (4)

I have received support from the beginning for my disabilities, and just any general issues I've had have been solved quickly. Amazing facilities available for my course. I wish I didn't have to take an elective in my first year, though, as it feels very distracting from my course.

Science and Technology Policy (with a professional placement year) MSc

University rating (4)

Studying Science and Technology Policy at the University of Sussex has been an inspiring experience. The university fosters an open, collaborative atmosphere that encourages critical and creative thinking. The faculty members are not only highly knowledgeable but also genuinely supportive, guiding students to connect theory with real-world policy challenges. Being part of SPRU (Science Policy Research Unit) is especially rewarding—its globally recognized research, interdisciplinary approach, and commitment to tackling pressing global issues make it an exceptional environment for learning. Overall, Sussex provides the perfect balance between academic rigor, innovation, and a welcoming international community.

Development Studies MA

University rating (4)

I like the location the university is in. I am a person that needs nature to relax, so I think that sussex is the right place for me. There are woods and fields near by and if you go into town there is a beach. Accommodations can be very old. I am in Norwich, in a flat with only girls which I am very thankful for. But I hear my girl friends in other gender mixed flats that they argue a lot due to messiness. This is just my opinion, but I feel that if there are more girls only flats, it would be a bit more easier to get along with each other.

The teaching quality is excellent. The lecturers are supportive and always willing to help students. The campus is quite far from the city centre, which makes it a bit inconvenient to go shopping in Brighton.

Accounting and Finance (with a professional placement year)

University rating (5)

Feel of campus is fantastic and very homely making new students feel at home very quickly. Lectures halls are for the majority very nice and spacious with a good layout. A few are slightly dated with limited leg room. Campus bar is very well priced and provides a good vibe. Gym in the sports centre is small making it feel packed often which can be a nuisance but machines are high quality and the extra cardio room provides enough machines to get a good workout in. The student union run drop in sports sessions providing great opportunities to get active and providing the opportunity to play when you want each week. The teaching level is very adapt and has provided me with an interesting and engaging first term of lectures thus far.

International Development - BA (Hons)

University rating (5)

Wow, Sussex Uni has been an inspiring and amazing experience in just the six weeks that I’ve been here. The lecturers on my course (International Development) have been phenomenal — an array of knowledge, experience, ideas, and concepts! My brain keeps working even when I’m not in class because I’m so inspired. The university has been very supportive and helped me settle into university life. As a mature student, I’ve felt incredibly welcomed by my classmates, even though I’m not living on campus. We’ve also been given study skills sessions, which I’ve found extremely useful after being out of education for some time. The lecturers are great — real people who are always available if you need them.
