Our collection of real, honest student reviews of unis and courses is the largest in the UK, and helps you make well-informed decisions about your future. Student reviews also form the basis of our annual Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs), which highlight great work carried out by institutions for their students.
I made the right choice coming here. It has a real family atmosphere where everyone knows somebody and we all look out for each other. The first thing that will amaze you is how stunning the campus looks
Ace library
The Union has always been there for me, and given some great nights out
Guildford hates students and we hate them
No 1 for employment
Varied, and reasonable. Only a 38 week contract unlike some unis which make you take 40 or 42

very helpful with finances
A relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Lecturers are all very enthusiastic and happy to help if your struggling with any of the content of the course. The accommodation both on and off campus is modern and spacious and in general a nice place to live. The students union host a variety of events from live performances from acts such as chase and status to themed nights. Guildford is a very student friendly town with great shopping although the nightlife can be a bit lacking.
Great, friendly atmosphere with fantastic sports and learning facilities.
The 24 hour Library and Learning Centre is modern, staffed 8am-8pm by librarians and by security from 8pm-8am. It provides multiple areas for study, including group study, individual study and silent study. The shops on campus are essentially convenience stores and therefore can a little expensive, as you would expect, and there are a variety of places to eat and drink, including the Chancellors bar, Starbucks and Hillside.
The 3 nightclubs and many bars in Guildford are very expensive, particularly at the weekend. However students tend to use the Students' Union nightclub, particularly on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, which offers a lot of drink deals and better overall value for money. Guildford itself is a lovely city, although very middle class and definitely not a typical 'student city', however all the high street chains are there amongst the designer boutiques!
Surrey offers a huge range of clubs and societies, with all students being able to access the world class facilities at Surrey Sports Park where the Harlequins rugby team, and England Women's Rugby Team train. Membership is very good value for money but must be paid up front. The sports team are extremely social, and most organise summer and Easter tours for members to participate in.
Professional Training Years are taken by most undergraduate students. This professional year in industry often leads to consequent job offers from the company you worked for, or places students in a fantastic position for future jobs.
Fantastic facilities provided through a range of prices. However due to overall Guildford house prices and its proximity to London, the halls of residence are expensive compared to other universities. However accommodation is guaranteed to first year students, and those who are returning from a placement year are often allowed to return in order to avoid house hunting whilst away from the area.
An incredible university that just keeps climbing up the rankings, yet still focusing on each individual student and how to improve their personal university journey
It is a beautiful university, great atmosphere and everyone is friendly. Some people may find the way of life a bit expensive compared to other parts of England. The university in itself has a beautiful campus and there are always events in which you can participate in. The campus is not extremely big so you can be anywhere in a matter of minutes and its pretty easy to find the lecture theaters and rooms.
The labs are pretty new and have everything one would need, some of the older ones may be a bit older but they are fully equipped and if they are not the stuff are pretty quick in stocking and making them workable. The library is very nice, my only wish is that it would have been a big bigger. In the last year the students using it are too many, making it seem too crowded. However the facility of it is very nice and helps both with functionality and help with the studying.
Great student support. If you need help even with the smallest of details someone will be happy to help you and point you to the right direction.
Guildford is a small town, however it is very beautiful. It might not have a wild nightlife but it offers you other great things. You have everything you need within walking distance and the town is beautiful and very graphic with small cafes and restaurants. There are a few night clubs and a lot of pubs, and as for shopping it has everything one would need.
The course is very demanding but the lecturers are more than helpful with everything. There is a lot of emphasis on placement, and the lecturers help with your application if that is what you want. The content of the lectures is on surreylearn and there is also books available for each course in the library for extra reading.
The university accommodation is really nice. Manor park is brand new and the other rooms on campus are spacious with lots of storage space and natural light. However not all students get accommodation as the rooms are quite limited.
Great University. While only 30 minutes train journey from Waterloo, Guildford is a nice small town with plenty of things to do. The campus is small but beautiful, and you soon come to see it as your home. The University has risen rapidly through the ranks and is now at a respectable 6th place in the whole of the UK.
Great sports facilities in Surrey Sports Park including olympic pool, tennis courts, climbing wall, football and rugby pitches, hockey, etc all within the same centre.
On campus GP. Student welfare office. Student life mentors. Career services. International Student Support etc. There is always someone there who is an expert in helping you with any problem that you may have during your stay at university.
The Student Union turns into a nightclub on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, when it is sure to fill up with your coursemates and friends. On top of that there is a wide variety of societies you can get involved with whatever your interests and hobbies may be. Trips within the UK and abroad are also organised several times a year.
Guildford is small but it is the busiest city in Surrey. Its train station is extremely well connected meaning you can hop on a train to London, the airport, or other places around the UK easily. Nightlife is good, with a few club choices and many pubs where you can enjoy a drink and music.
A wide variety of choices, from sports to volunteering, sure to suit your preferences.
Good teaching facilities and course content. Lectures are engaging and relevant. Some courses offer a wide array of optional modules to choose from. Lecturers and tutors are readily available for one-on-one sessions, or you can simply e-mail knowing that they will soon get back to you.
One of the highest employability rates in the UK. There are plenty of support services, from personal tutors to a specialised career office to help with anything job related. Very well regarded by Placement Year Employers as majority of students carry out this as part of their course.
Several choices of accommodation to suit your preference and budget. Most accommodation is on campus with the exception of two halls that are 10 minute walk away, but located very near the sports centre.
A friendly and exciting university both in terms of academia and student life. I have benefited from lectures research and felt very safe and welcomed both on campus and in Guildford. There are loads of societies and I haven't met anyone who has not found something fun or interesting for them to do. Most importantly of all the emphasis on Employment is the key reason Surrey is so good - whilst a good degree is important, employability is just as vital and heavy emphasis on this is reassuring and beneficial for the students.
Employability is included in all degrees regardless of subject. Both compulsory and voluntary it helps ensure all students have the best opportunities at getting a job which is what university is for.
Good academic life, poor social aspects and very expensive to live in Guildford. Academic staff are very engaging and a good careers service and a high league ranking offer good job opportunities after graduation. Students Union have very little impact on life at Surrey and there is a poor social and night life.
Library and Learning Center is very useful resource
Student Services are very helpful
Not particularly active
Expensive and little to do
Well supported sports societies
Good academic staff
Very helpful Careers Service
Good location, very expensive
Surrey is a brilliant University with a lovely campus, friendly atmosphere and great lecturers! I have already had so much support during my time at the University of Surrey, and I am only part way through 2nd year. I am looking forward to opportunities which I have yet to come, including the Professional Training Year.
Plenty of access to computers, and wide ranging resources in the library.
One of the biggest student union clubs in the South East, with the addition of the Union offering frequent trips both abroad and to UK locations.
Guildford may not be the biggest town in the world, but it definitely has all you need.
With over 40 sports clubs and numerous more societies, there is plenty to do at Surrey. There is also the bonus of Surrey Sports Park which includes facilities such as an Olympic size swimming pool, 6 squash courts, a climbing wall, multi-station gym and more.
The Professional Training Year Surrey offers, really boosts employment prospects.
Manor Park is amazing, and the halls on campus are being updated.
The largest university awards in the UK voted for exclusively by students - find out which unis our student reviewers love!
Other students also liked these unis - you might too!
Student Union is really good. Accomodation could be improved
I hope the university may give more support to Chinese students and the model of the course should be changed for spring semester
All the different societies I guess. Theres something for everyone. Theres friends for all kinds of people. You dont often find people alone here. Its very warming.
