It's one of the best university in the UK. The worst aspect is that there is no enough support to mental health or any othet support.
It's the most intense course, too much work and any other Masters course has much less of work.
Its a great place to study due to the infrastructure it provides to students with keeping everything in mind from sports, library, auditorium, entertainment center etc. The staff at the University are very well equipped with knowledge & the way they teach & are supportive throughout. Students Union at the University is an add on to the facilities it provides. Sports centre is a great place for all physical & mental exercises along with some dance classes running too. It contains Gym, swimming pool, badminton, football etc as part of what it offers at reasonable rates for students. One thing I would like to highlight is about the availability of accommodation within University campus. Considering the scale of University, they should increase the accommodation count of students so that many students can be made available with the accommodation facility & they don't have to keep on searching them outside & save up on their expenses & time.
The course due to pandemic has been a blended learning experience, however slowly the University has said that they will be moving to in-class teaching (though the decision from them is taking a good time even when other universities have already started that). Also the classrooms count is less for departments which leaves them managing lectures as per availablility. Practical Labs are too taught online which creates problems for students. Overall the teachers are well equipped with knowledge & know what they are teaching (expect 10% of teachers). A very few staff members are not upto the mark at teaching which creates problems for students as they have to rely on self study for that lecture with minimum support from that subject tutor. The Engineering & Management departments at Strathclyde have a great course structure keeping in mind practical world outside & accordingly prepare students for that. Cours hours are also divided nicely which leaves students good amount lf time to study themselves & for other activities as well.
The surroundings & the city is very nice. Not too paced & not too slow. It contains alot of diverse crowd with people being generous & helpful. It gives a positive vibe when you land at Glasgow. You have everything here you need right from big brands to small local shops at your service, from entertainment to adventure. Its a nature friendly city with alot of work done on sustainability. Many facilities for students are very much helpful in their daily routine. Weather can be unpredictable at times as it is around entire UK.
I did not find IT or the student housing advice very helpful. During stressful times of not finding an accommodation and laptop getting locked out, university wasnt of any help. I was on my own.
Course content is not very technical and teachers are not very interacting
The facilities provided by the University are of an excellent standard, in particular the new modern Student union and Learning and Teaching building. These areas contain sufficient study spaces which enhances my learning experience. Staff across all areas of the university are incredibly helpful and friendly and are always happy to answer any questions students may have regarding academic studies or other matters. The prime city centre location of the university makes it easily accessible for me as there is numerous transport links located nearby, so commuting to and from university is not a problem. The university’s main platform for delivering material and communications (Myplace) is well designed and easy to navigate which facilitates my learning experience further.
I have found my course extremely interesting and enjoyable thus far whilst studying at Strathclyde. The lecturers and tutors provide excellent assistance to students and go above and beyond to ensure that any problems are queries are listened to and rectified. I feel as if the blend of online learning and on campus learning is suitable as lectures are recorded which means I can revisit them to ensure clarity. This learning model also allows me to spend sufficient time throughout the week on campus which ensures I have the opportunity to socially interact with my peers and other counterparts. I have also utilised the excellent office hours service provided by my university, this is a chance to meet one-to-one with lecturers and ask questions relating to the content of the course. I have found this service incredibly beneficial as there have been times which I have found assignments challenging. The lecturers allocate ample time to this service and ensure students problems are addressed which is fantastic. Tutorials at Strathclyde University are practical and interactive which is great as students have the chance to work in groups and share their ideas with each other. This reaps many social and educational benefits and is something that I personally enjoy. The tutorials are constructed in a way that allows tutors to interact with students, such as asking questions and allowing students to respond. This is beneficial for the cohort as students can get to know tutors on a more personal level and build a positive relationship with them, thus allowing academic progression.
I have been in the uni for last 6 months now and I have only had great experiences. International student support is great and the faculty and student union is very approachable. I will highly recommend university of Strathclyde
My course is hybrid learning, and I usually go to uni to attend a class once in a week. Faculty is really approachable and all the lectures have been taught in a detailed manner. I have also received support whenever I required it.
No offline classes.
Offline classes are boring
The campus is very accessible as it is based off the city centre. The new union is modern but is lacking in the aspects which the old union delivered on. Labs and computer labs are very modern and have great facilities. The library is a great space for studying with 5 different floors for different types of studying from silent solo to group study. The university needs to have a great overhaul in communication with students as during the pandemic, we were kept in the dark about how our course was to be taught to us, whether or not we could even access the campus. Some staff are great and engage us students with their subject which they are obviously passionate about, whereas other lecturers make it unbearable to sit through lectures regardless of whether or not subject is interesting. Over the past couple of years the university were very delayed in releasing timetables meaning we were kept in the dark of when we would have university activities, creating difficulty for planning in life, especially for students who need to work alongside studies.
There are lecturers which engage the class and make the topic which they are obviously passionate about very interesting. All lecture material for the past two years has been totally online and released one week before online workshop related activities take place. Due to Strathclyde’s overly strict covid restrictions, lab classes have been kept to a minimum, as I have been in a lab 6 times whereas i should have been in at least 12. Some lecturers are great with responses and are super helpful. However, staff were given extra holidays at the xmas break in 2021, during which we had to write 2 reports which were due when the staff returned from their holidays, making it impossible to contact them with questions which was incredibly frustrating.
Glasgow is a very diverse city with most nationalities represented. The city is relatively safe during the day but like all cities can feel uneasy at night when in certain quieter places. There are plenty of shops and food places always needing part time staff too. With Central station and Queen street the city has excellent transport links. There is also the large bus station near the university. Within the city itself there is the subway too. The cost of living is varied, all depending on where you desire to get a flat, the west end tends to be more expensive but most shopping can be done at local inexpensive shops such as Aldi
