This is my second time at University of Portsmouth and returning was not of my choice. The course I am currently on is through my employment and the contract is with University of Portsmouth. Both times I have studied at Portsmouth I have found that I have been treated as if I were a new school leaver, not as the mature student I am with life experience. I have found myself having to regularly chase the university, when my access to Moodle was suspended, when my student card was not sent ( this I had to chase on at least 4 occasions) and even with my final grade when I initially studied with Portsmouth( this almost cost me my degree as they attempted to 'award' me a diploma instead of the degree which I had gained). I have felt regularly in returning to University of Portsmouth as being punished for having studied there previously. A student card was not issued as I was an ex-student of theirs, even though previous card had expired, my access to Moodle was suspended and I had to go around 4 different departments to get it un-suspended again as I was an ex-student. The first time I was studying with Portsmouth I was a full-time student, time which should have been used studying was spent chasing them. The second time I am in a full-time employment, studying a degree and a VQ, I honestly don't have time to spend hours chasing people phoning multiple times having to email etc. In all both experiences with University of Portsmouth have been negative ones which I would not repeat through choice again.

online course began very well but as its progressed im finding less and less guidance and help from tutors i feel like i have taught myself, the professors in the later modules are not engaging enough its like they are just reading from a text book then telling you to crack on and get it done, i have seen a steady decline in my grades because of this not happy and feel i have wasted my time and money

School of Criminology & Criminal Justice

University rating (5)

I'm taking an online course through the School of Criminology & Criminal Justice. Moodle is really helpful and easy to explore the instructional learning materials for me. I'm having a great time studying and conducting research. Critical writing and evaluations with analysis, in particular.

Remote learning can be tricky. Some of the materials on the MSc course need updating. I found the BSc distance learning better organised.

Community Justice Learning

University rating (4)

There is an amazing amount of student support seeing as I am 100% remote. Turnitin and being able to re-submit your assignment more than once is super helpful - my previous University did not offer this. Could be improved by allowing greater time between Q&A/Seminar sessions to allow for more time to write assignments. Could also create videos to summarise readings within academic material as there is a very long list of required reading that is difficult to understand and also complete due to time pressures and working full time.

The best thing is that everyone is always very keen to help you and you never feel left alone. The worst thing is probably the distance from town.
