A lot of emphasis on support and mental health, with students being able to bring up issues with University staff. Very professional. Some facilities are lacking that isn't the main campus.

Mechanical Engineering - BEng (Hons)

University rating (4)

One of the best aspect of the University of Central Lancashire is the location. I live less than 15 minutes away in the car so it is a great location for my studies. Also, the facilities at Uclan are new and well looked after. The worst aspect of my uni experience is the difficult transisition into the studies. As a part time student, a number of lectures/ previous years are missed and each lectoror expects the student to know certain aspects when they have not been covered before.

Lots of places to study and relax. However work load seems to be quite heavy and they expect a lot of you. Also beware if you are commuting as it takes a large portion out your day.

Law - LLB (Hons)

University rating (3)

U don’t get any support whatsoever u have to beg for it and that’s when they finally get fed up and give it u. If u don’t beg u don’t get any support. A handful of ppl at this uni do actually sympathise with u and try their best to help u but most do not give a sh!t about u or ur studies. The uni sometimes makes u feel like ur not good enough for them. Sometimes they’ll pick on certain students and not others even though the others are doing worse or the same. The law department is okay but there’s a lot of modules u do not need to be studying such as professional skills paying so much for a class that just teaches u basically nothing about law. It’s just a filler class that talks about employability skills this should be an optional class not a mandatory one. There’s many other law modules that are far more important that should be included instead of this. Some teachers especially in workshops do not teach well enough they simply read txt off slides and that’s it. Nothing more than that and when u ask them for help they just repeat what’s said in the slide and again that’s it. So maybe getting more better teachers in there could be more helpful. And teachers that can speak well enough so that u can understand them.

The staff are really friendly and supportive. i feel confident to contact them for anything and everything. the academic side of it is really impressive, the facilities are great and i could not ask for much more. the social side could be improved, this is purely because of the location. there is not much to do around the uni.
