Different methods of teaching.
No funding for clubs of 'smaller' sports.
Can we have a pool/jacuzzi in the sports centre?
Good, unimppressed by funding given.
Very underwhelming. Didn’t prepare me to work in the industry. Discouraged me from trying to get a job in the music industry all together. Wish I had gone somewhere different.
Nothing at all.
Didn’t enjoy it.
Really disappointed with my university experience. 3rd year was relocated into the dockside so very isolated and with no usable equipment. I felt the course had no real ties to the Industry and did nothing to prepare for working life. Socially there was nothing to do there and lost people just drove home straight after the lectures. I studied about 10 years ago so hopefully it’s improved.
No feedback for assignments and sometimes the feedback is wrong and the lecturer cannot even justify it. Employbility/career service is not good and is a waste of time to attend. Placement office is a joke and a waste of time. Placement office staff just sit there doing nothing. University offers courses with placements which has no value in the industry so there is no way you can find a placement completing the course. Placement office staff just sit in the office saving their jobs. They have no genuine interest to support students or find placements for students. Only hadful of students go for placements. The university has some good facilities but it is the staff who makes a mess. Worst university experience ever. Kent=confusing
University makes no effort. Everything is done to show that they put effort but they do nothing. There big, useless career fair which is a waste of time if you want to attend it. The placement office does nothing to find students placements. The placement office finds placements for very limited number of students. The placement scheme is just a joke to attract students. Specially international students.
The teaching is good and course material is good, however lecturers dont care about students. Either you get quite good grades or they find one fault in your assignment which they think is not good enough, and fail the whole assignment.
Students union seems to do nothing as there are many student issues that are not resolved. During last winter in several instances there was no hot water/heating at all in Woolf housing. There were many instances Woolf housing had internet issues.
There are some good facilities but the worst comes from the people who maintain these facilities.
Canterbury is a rural city that has very limited technology. Constant problems with phone signal strength.
Ok but could be better
There is no feedback, you just get a mark which sometimes even the lecturer cannot defend themselves. Constant lying by lecturer when you request feedback.
I should have stayed at Sussex. Okay, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but I'm pissed. I hope my mind is changed in the coming year, I am going to be so in debt, so it better be worth it, and so far it hasn't been. Not even close.
They have a fair, but I think it is run by the union. Nothing that I'm aware of is done regarding job prospects with my course.
In first and second year my course was taught almost, if not completely, exclusively by grad students. 9k and I'm being taught by grad students. Ridiculous. I have liked most of my tutors, 2 of my creative writing ones in particular, but regarding the literature ones I would have rather had someone with more experience. I can't speak for other courses, but by course/department is a mess. They changed the final year dissertation modules last minute without telling us. I found out 1 month before the dissertation application deadline that the one I had been planning to do had been cancelled, and I only found out because I sent an email asking how to apply for it when it wasn't mentioned in the dissertation email. There was no formal notification that the dissertation track that we were told we would be able to do for the past two years was no longer an option. More angry at the method of which this was handled than not being able to do the project. I've paid over 18k so far in tuition and it is not worth it. The English Student Support staff are fantastic though, I can't speak for everyone, but they have been very accommodating and understanding towards me. I so desperately wanted to like my course here, but just feel let down by the university.
I don't really have anything to do with the union directly. I'm aware they are there, but not really aware of anything they do. Actually, they did finally get a new student hub in Parkwood after years of fighting.
I like Canterbury, but I wouldn't call it a city (although technically it is). It is pretty and old and there are lots of restaurants and bars. I like to walk along the river when I'm bored. Free entry into the cathedral for Kent students, you only really need to go once, but its pretty and old. Near by it Whitstable, a beach town that has a fresh donut (and oyster, if that's what you're into) hut on the promenade. I like the area.
In my experience they're pretty great. There are A LOT of options. Some are a bit cliquey, but you'll find something for you. The social aspects of Kent are pretty great.
English Student Support is fantastic. Counselling did refer me to one person off campus, but the next time I went to see them for help turned me away. My tuition has mainly been taught by grad students. What has made me angry enough to write a review is just the lack of genuine care from some of the staff and admissions people in my experience. There is no doubt in my mind that most people who work for the uni care deeply about their job. I've just been unlucky with at least 75% people who have been in contact with me being kind of assholey
Terrible, depressing and I genuinely can't wait to leave. This campus is completely neglected from the Canterbury campus and it is absolutely ludicrous that we are paying £9000 a year for a depressing and restricted university experience.
Really vaguely, sessions are put on but you can tell its more for an ego boost as opposed to helping out the student.
When they end. Most of the academics spout about their own successes. I have had two teachers through my whole time that have actually been attentive and interested in how I do (Medway campus)
It is absolutely a joke. Literally incomparable to any other SU in the country,. The Medway campus is a scam in terms of nightlife and social activities, surrounded by people that sit in their rooms smoking weed. very depressing.
Incredibly average, and their always seems to be some sort of restriction at the Medway campus; such as the library in Canterbury being 24 hours but not for Medway.
Horrendous and full of people on drugs- it's not a city at all the only positive is that London is a 50 minute train away
very inconsistent. Some do not care at all, while few really want to see you do well. This is coupled with an incredibly inconsistent marking system used
Lots of tutor time but it is very stressful
Printers are awful
Not the best support
External factors have affected my experience, however, the course, mates, work and life, despite the uni workload all has been great
Not much uni organised opportunities a bit more department organised
Mostly great, not many contact hours, lots of individual work
Keep improving restlessly
Leaks that 'cant be fixed'
Small gym, incredible library, computer rooms, music facilities and overall sports facilities
Bit boring but very relaxed and comfortable environment
Have not joined any, still take part in their activities
Depends on individual circumstances
It's amazing, I'm enjoying all my modules, particularly Latin. Although, because I commute, it's difficult to get involved
There are employability points we get for work, volunteering and going to socials - we trade these in for internships etc
I love them but there's so much work it's stressful, and I don't like the graduate assistant for one of my seminars
I'm not really involved s I don't know so well
It;s busy but not too much and there are plenty of places to eat
I don't really go to everything although they all sound brilliant and I want to go
they emphasize where we can go to right from the start
