My experience of studying MSc Psychology at Huddersfield University has been an excellent experience so far. The facilities are excellent and it is a supportive academic environment. The lecturers are passionate and dedicated and committed in supporting students to achieve the best they possibly can. The MSc Psychology program is particularly engaging, combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications, which can lead to graduates being well-prepared for careers in psychology or further research. Additionally, the university’s emphasis on employability and professional development makes it an ideal place to advance both academically and personally.
The MSc Psychology is a conversion course so for students with a different academic background have to try and bridge the gap in comparison to students from Psychology backgrounds. The course hours are manageable which offer a balance between guided teaching and independent research. The lecturers are supportive and approachable and are easily contacted. Their willingness to provide feedback and guidance enhances the overall learning experience. Additionally, the university provides excellent resources, including state-of-the-art research facilities, online learning materials, and library access, ensuring students have everything they need to succeed. The combination of high-quality teaching, strong academic support, and a vibrant university community makes Huddersfield an excellent place to study MSc Psychology.
The University of Huddersfield is a great place to study due to its modern facilities, strong industry links, and award-winning teaching. Students benefit from a well-equipped library, cutting-edge labs, and industry-standard studios that enhance learning experiences. The university’s commitment to employability is evident through work placements, guest lectures, and collaborations with businesses. Additionally, Huddersfield offers an affordable cost of living compared to many other UK cities, making it an attractive option for students. The supportive environment, including mental health services, career advice, and a diverse, inclusive community, further enhances student life. However, there are areas that could be improved, such as expanding social spaces and informal study areas to encourage collaboration. Some students may also appreciate a broader range of elective courses and interdisciplinary options. Continued investment in campus development, particularly green and recreational spaces, would make the university even more inviting. Furthermore, while the university hosts various events, enhancing nightlife and entertainment options in the town could improve the overall student experience. Finally, better transport links and late-night travel options would make commuting easier and more convenient for students living off-campus.
The course offers a strong blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, making it highly relevant for today’s data-driven industries. One of the best aspects is its focus on real-world applications, with modules covering key areas such as data analytics, machine learning, and business decision-making. The use of industry-standard tools and software, along with hands-on projects, helps build practical expertise. Additionally, the lecturers are knowledgeable and supportive, providing valuable insights and guidance. The structure is well-balanced, combining lectures, workshops, and independent research, allowing students to develop both technical and critical thinking skills. However, there are areas that could be improved. The workload can be quite intensive, especially for those new to programming or data analytics, and additional support sessions could be beneficial. Some modules focus more on theoretical concepts rather than practical implementation, so a greater emphasis on industry case studies and hands-on work would be helpful. While the facilities are good, more networking opportunities with industry professionals and guest speakers could further enhance employability prospects. Overall, the course provides a solid foundation for a career in this field, but a few improvements could make the learning experience even better.
I really can honestly say I am very happy at Huddersfield. I have previously been a student for 4 years at Leeds University and the difference between how students and staff are treated is shockingly better here at Huddersfield. The gold awards for student satisfaction does not suprise me. As a disabled student recovering from cancer I have been so supported and encouraged. Its been actually at times overwhelming compared to my previous experiences elsewhere. I love the appearance of the university, I especially love charles sykes. I feel this is calmer for me and my anxiety compared to the library which often has lift issues. I would love to see a study space within that building for education students to be able to access. It is also closest to the most disabled parking. The disabled parking spaces at charles sykes i think there is 2, doesnt have number plate recognition for disabled students, I hope this is something that could be looked at in the future. I also feel there is a lack of representation for older students, or parents who are studying. I have twin girls and I feel like the only parent sometimes. But mostly my experience is great and fantastic and I look forward to coming to study every day. Another suggestion could be that room sizes can sometimes not be proportionate for the class size. For disabled people like me, it would be more beneficial to have most of our lectures within the same buildings.
3 days per week is great for me as a older student with children and a home to manage, it also fits around students who have to work. I would say, having timetables late prevented me from being able to organise wrap around school childcare, which is annually applied for, resulting in my entire year being difficult for childcare which has left me at a disadvantage compared to others. Also changing the days we come in also is a struggle. The content on the course is very interesting, the course lead is phenomenal. She has been engaging, supportive and consistent throughout and I am so pleased we have her (Kat Simpson). She has gone above and beyond to help in various ways to support us in our studies and even self confidence. I think some modules need reviewing such as theories and strats, I dont think it needs the time frame it does, I think it can be done to the same high standard in a shorter period. We currenly have a month of 3 days at uni, 2 days at placement 2 exams and 3 assignemnts due in, then our timetable goes very quiet for the rest of the year, this has causes alot of stress and actually doesnt make alot of sense, I dont believe it will enable us to produce the standard of work we are capable of due to workload. I feel placement being moved to the month after would result in better self -care, confidence, productivity and grades.
The students union really is the glue that holds the university together. There is such an amazing variety of events that allow students to try new things and visit new places. As well as that, their equity policy is incredible, making sure everyone gets what they need. Some of the events run by the university’s different schools are solely for business students. This has nothing to do with the students union, but it seems that specific school excludes other students.
Amazing support from lecturers all the time, no question is a silly question for them. The course hours vary but it allows students time to work on the assignments we are given.
The kindest landlord who supports tenants through even the smallest amenities problems. Each studio flat has everything you need, and are the cheapest studio flats in Huddersfield.
great location, improvements could include opening student union shop earlier
content is explained well
The attendance portal should be updated on immediate basis so that if there's any technical error while marking attendance, we can know immediately and work towards its resolution When its updated the next day, we are at home and by the next day, we forget about the issue and thus it gets ignored
The timetable should be set in a way to accomodate students, and not calling the students for just 1 class in 1 day. Secondly, in some of the technical subjects, the quality of the teaching needs improvement
The best aspect about university life is stability. There's always a schedule to keep and deadlines to meet which is good for me as I like having a structure. It also gives you a way to participate in, maybe, 2-3 societies or clubs. This way you can meet new people, again, at set times with a schedule so there can be balance between having fun and experiencing university life whilst achieving the grades I am aiming for. The staff that have taught are good at teaching as they know what they are talking about and it shows through the way they teach but some staff cannot teach which does lead to stress and self teaching. It can be improved, however, by having student support more trained. This is specifically towards academic skills as they all have they own of explaining/teaching but it's almost like an experiment to see which tutors are helpful and if they are not, it ends up being a waste of time. This can be frustrating such as these appointments are limited and are somewhat difficult to come by.
The course is an in person course. This means there is contact with lectures. They also respond to student emails in a timely manner. One thing I would say is to make it clear how long it takes to respond to an email. For example, it is policy for teaching staff to respond within 2 working days but other departments such as well being or student finance, it is not clear what policies they follow. Fellow students whisper within in lectures which make it difficult to concentrate and focus.
The university offers a fantastic learning environment with excellent facilities, diverse courses, and a supportive student community. The campus is well-equipped, and there are plenty of resources to help students succeed. The lecturers are generally knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects, making learning engaging and insightful. However, some professors could improve their teaching methods to make lessons more interactive and accessible. Additionally, practical tutorials could be better structured to provide more hands-on experience and real-world application. Overall, it's a great place to study with just a few areas for improvement!
My course has been a great experience overall, with a well-structured curriculum and a good balance between theory and practical learning. The lectures are informative, and most professors are approachable and supportive. The availability of resources, both online and in-class, makes studying more efficient. However, some professors could improve their teaching methods to make complex topics more engaging. and need to check nowadays need and update the content of the course Additionally, the practical tutorials could be more interactive and hands-on to help students apply their knowledge more effectively.
great rooms and serves for what you pay.
The university campus itself is really beautiful As a healthcare student, I spend most of my time in the new Daphne Steele building and it is a lovely building to study in with a brand new podiatry clinic. It could be improved by having slightly better nightlife, but that just comes with the location.
My course is taught mostly in person with some work being set online The course hours are relatively short, being in for 3 days of the week and not full days when in uni. The lecturers are usually very quick to reply and are always incredibly helpful. The lecturers are also the best in their fields making it so helpful in clinic with them being there to help us.
My accommodation has incredible value for money and is so cheap at £91 a week, it is located right next to some of my uni buildings all I have to do is cross the road and I am in uni. Its incredibly safe and the staff are really lovely and helpful.
The location of the university is brilliant, it’s not to far from the big cities such as Leeds and Manchester. The cost of living here is also significantly lower than other universities areas which Is an added bonus, the people in the town area are lovely and it is such a student friendly town as most shops or supermarkets are within 10-15 minutes walking distance. The university itself is good in terms of support that they offer to the students especially as an international student studying nursing, it can get challenging at times but the university tries their best to provide adequate support as needed. The student union is also brilliant as there are events planned for students and there are also awareness programmes that goes on every week. I think the university is good but there are some aspects that needs to be improved. Such as the toilets in the main student areas needs to be frequent cleaned as it’s mostly dirty and emits some offensive smells, the meal options in the university can be improved as they lack a bit in having variety of options. But so far Huddersfield university has been good.
The best part about my course is that it’s very useful as nurses are the backbones of the hospital, the course is hands on 50% theory 50% practical. The facilities and equipments being used to teach the course are helpful and aids in learning. The course theory hours are reasonable, tutors really support the students as they give adequate feedbacks to students about assignments or essay or group work due. And there is an extra support for international students, as the international support team helps international students with academic writing, assignments breakdowns, attendance issues and many other things. The worst aspect of my course is the placement hours, places posted during placement. Although the university supports the students adequately during theory blocks however during placement blocks the support provided isn’t adequate as we are mostly in the hospital during placement and if there are any issues or problems in the placement areas, the university first of all struggles to replay to the complaint made by the student on time or they sometimes struggle to address it, thereby making the student feel helpless.
The university town is perfect for students as it is a student friendly town. Due to its size not being large, the major shops and supermarkets are 10-15 minutes walk from the university as the base. It is also close to the big cities like Leeds and Manchester which is approximately 30 minutes by trains, so all major clothing brands and food stores or apparel can be shopped for there. The town is also and inviting town with the majority of the population being older people, it’s quite and significantly safe.
