Best thing passion for the subject among students and lecturers worse thing computer system
Great and modern facilities, especially the study spaces both in the student centre and within the main buildings. Modern and elevated study spaces really help with productivity and encourage people to study more. The campus is very safe with great security that checks the study spaces, accommodation and the walking areas of campus. Very friendly and helpful staff, including the cleaners, maintenance and food servers in the outlets. Quite clean especially in the labs, study spaces and overall around the campus. One thing that can be improved is student life. Colchester is a quiter town and everything in central town closes early so people from big cities like me find it difficult to adapt. The SU has been limiting creative freedom for students lately so there are less events and the students are discouraged to plan a lot of things knowing the SU will turn them down.
Very good location and proximity to everything
Plenty of support
I think that the university, and especially the student union, gives great support and does their best to offer resources and help academically and making sure life on campus is the best experience it can be
The university has a really good library with multiple floors in which you can certainly find your preferred study area. On campus there are multiple rooms to choose from if you want to work away from your accommodation, there are many quiet place where you can really focus. Social life is good when you are able to get to talk with people and step out of your comfort zone, otherwise it gets rather lonely quite quickly and it feels like your are isolated no matter how many people there are around you. You have to put yourself out there. The large park on campus is nice and beautiful, aside for the mud when it gets too rainy. The green space is a good opportunity to take a walk to clear your mind, feel refreshed, or if you want to get your steps in for the day. Most people mind their own business, from my experience, and it’s nice to realise and know that you can be comfortable with yourself as well as go for activities that the Student Union puts out for everyone. As I am in an accommodation without a common room, only a kitchen, I think it would be great to make it possible to feel like there are places to go to feel more at home, instead of spending most of the time in your room.
The best thing in my own experience of the university is our lecturers. They are a delight to be around and I really feel like they care about us all doing well. Not just in a way of hitting targets for the Uni but for us as people who are trying to get into the career that we have set out to. The worst thing for me is the rooms are cold. The university thermostat is set to a number which is too low during the winter months in my opinion.
They stopped doing large club nights as they can’t afford it
While it provides many benefits and advantages it is very difficult to get ahold of these opportunities. It seems like it’s very difficult to have access to certain resources and services to broaden students knowledge and experience. I also think there should be more ways in which students can practice their course whether through internships or more presented extracurriculars.
The campus has a good mix of nature and city life. I love all the bunnies and the lake and trees. I would like more support on my course about key information as I feel it gets lost in all the information we are bombarded with. And I would like the su to respond to my emails when I need help! The su do listen to feedback about events which is good.
Best aspect is the friends and connections I've made through societies and the university. Worst aspect is that the town nearby doesn't have that much for us to do.
The location is far away from the main city so that makes Student life pretty hard when you’re just around university the whole time. A lot of the buildings are grey. And there’s no fun place to hang out in your breaks. There’s a library and other buildings. You can grab food but that’s about it. I wish we were closer to the main city so we can go to shops in our breaks and stuff like that.
I love the environment here and the vibe, it could be improved by giving students more support
The only problem I have with it is location however transport links into the town centre are abundant and easy to access

Beautiful campus and close together.
The best parts of my uni experience is definitely the lectures and the friends I made. I think Essex as a uni makes it easy to be social. I was able to join Pole dancing and I absolutely love the range of sports they offer. The nightlife is quite middle as there is only one club but sub zero definitely makes up for it. I have enjoyed learning here so much and can’t wait to carry on my journey at Essex.

Essex University campus has made all aspects of uni life easy to be a part of whether it’s lectures or going out. I wish student ran societies had more budget to use.
More opportunity should be given to view lectures online
