Best aspect: One positive aspect of university is the financial resources available to support students, such as scholarships, bursaries, grants, and access to part-time work on or near campus. These resources can reduce financial pressure and allow students to focus more on their studies. Universities also often provide access to subsidised facilities, learning resources, and student discounts, which can make higher education more affordable compared to managing these costs independently. Worst aspect / areas for improvement: Despite these resources, financial support is often limited, competitive, or not well advertised, leaving many students unaware of the help available to them. Living costs, accommodation fees, and international tuition fees continue to rise, which can cause significant financial stress. Universities could improve by expanding financial aid, offering clearer guidance on available funding, and providing more consistent support for students facing unexpected financial difficulties.

UU is one of the most welcoming and diverse universities, with friendly staff and ways to learn — a place to develop and improve self. It’s a great place because there’s always notified events and opportunities, for career and personal improvement with the means to do so. They provide a lot of support and advice too. Improvements: N/A

My experience at Ulster University has honestly been disappointing overall. While there are some good lecturers and opportunities available, student support often feels inconsistent and many aspects of the university experience feel more stressful than supportive. Communication can be unclear, assessment expectations are sometimes poorly aligned with teaching materials, and there is a strong feeling of being left to figure things out alone under a lot of pressure. The workload and academic standards are understandable for a law degree, but there is not always enough guidance or transparency to match that level of expectation. The university has a strong reputation on paper, but the actual student experience can feel isolating and overwhelming at times, particularly during assessment periods.
Best aspects: The course helped develop important skills such as legal research, critical thinking, advocacy, and problem-solving. Opportunities like mooting and practical legal exercises were engaging and helped build confidence in applying legal principles. Some lecturers were knowledgeable and clearly passionate about their subjects. Worst aspects: Assessment expectations sometimes felt unclear, particularly where exam formats did not closely reflect practice materials or lecture content. The workload could feel overwhelming, and at times there was not enough guidance or support to match the level of pressure placed on students. Communication and consistency across modules could also be frustrating.
