Automotive Performance Engineering (Motorsport) BEng (Hons)

University rating (4)

the best aspect is that the uni facilities are amazing and the motorsport centre is such a nice building with the best equipment and technology for all students to use. But i would say that the worst aspect of uni life is how little money students are left with to live on. it makes life very hard alot of the time, especially when you don’t have enough money for food and you have to find what you can to just have a meal but i think that it will all be worth it in the long run. I think that i will come to appreciate the time when i struggled because i’ll appreciate what i have a lot more when i’m in a better position in life due to the university and getting a job that i couldn’t have got without university. I will be forever grateful for the university of bolton for giving me the opportunity to improve my life and giving me the opportunity to one day have the career that i’ve dreamed of for years and years. I don’t think that there’s anything bad for me to say about the uni and i don’t think there are things that i feel need improvement, i’ve had a great experience learning with the university of bolton and i’m looking forward to many more years together.

I like the community ethos of the university - it makes me feel happy and welcome. The smaller class sizes have also made it easier for me to get to know my peers.

THIRD YEAR

LLB Law LLB (Hons)

In the past year, the university has gone downhill at an incredible speed. The majority of staff left before the academic year even began and no arrangements were put in place to adequately replace them. The remaining staff have an inadequate way of teaching which consists of reading directly of PowerPoints that we receive after the lecture, there is very little class interaction and this year, my exams have had very little to do with the law that was taught and the lectures did not contribute much to the overall exam. We have a legal advice centre which is also a module and following the departure of the lecturer who led it there has been a crisis of leadership and neither our clients nor the students who worked there have found it helpful. This centre as a module has seen an overhaul which has removed the overall things that made it good when there was adequate leadership and teaching. As for other modules, the constant reading from PowerPoints has made lectures and the topic dull and the lack of communications means that anyone who struggles cannot rely on staff to help. To further complicate things, there has been a complete lack of support for third year students who are now writing dissertations as some are without any supervisors and others have been placed under insane pressure. The law library is not of much help anymore either since all of the books are too outdated to be relied on and there is virtually no effort to maintain those books and since books are important as they are needed for academic writing and citation, the only option is for each student to purchase their own books. A more pressing matter is also that there is no longer any sort of society for law students as many of them preferred to leave the university than remain and receive a poor education. To further add to this, the students who remain (like me) have been left with a feeling of hopelessness because of the current state of this university. A further notion to signify the complete ignorance of students is that the university will be changing its name and none of the students were even told and had to find out from the local newspaper where it was reported. We were not even asked for our opinions and no student has been given the opportunity to be heard. From an administrative view, things are not any better with many staff being unreasonably slow with their reponse to important emails and important emails such as those relating to the modules we are studying or even the course overall. Our timetable are rarely correct and there are many last minute changes and many students who do not have access to materials when they should. There is also a further issue relating to the fact that there appears to be no effort made to fix any of this. It truly is a shame since the univerisity was great for the first 2 years of my course.

The uni is in a rather convenient location being within walking distance of both the bus and train station making the commute alot easier than if it was more remote. The facilities within are quite good especially the library with its plethora of books and printing credits supplied each year for our course

Bolton university is a great place to study, conducive environment and adequate infrastructural equipment. School bus services should include adults from 23 upwards. To relieve stress.
