The annual Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) highlight the incredible work carried out by institutions for their students. Due to Covid restrictions, this year’s awards were not collected on uni campuses as usual, but instead based on submissions from institutions, which were then judged by our special student panel.
2021 WUSCA winners
It has been difficult due to personal issues and the strain of the pandemic but the university has been supportive and has offered help whenever it has been needed
We have a number of guest speakers throughout the year and opportunities for networking, but I feel they could do more to prepare us for work in practice. We are studying a course which has a specific / same job usually lined up after it than the rest of our peers so we can all be prepared together
It has been a blended approach due to the pandemic but is usually all in person. We have one lecture a week, 2 hours of tutorial time spread out over maybe 3 days and access to the studio from 8 to 8 everyday. We see out tutors at least once a week but have constant contact with them if we want to via email or Teams messages
We have access to everything and anything we need. As it is a creative arts university they have all the relevant facilities we could possibly have at our disposal
There is good mental health support and to my knowledge very good support for those with disabilities but I have not needed / wanted to use them
Other than the friends I made , I can not say anything good about this university. I will continue to tell people not to go. First year was okay but it just kept going downhill. My course is discontinued. Everyone I know regrets attending this university which is a terribly small campus with no social activities.
I found myself my own jobs luckily which taught me more than UCA has ever taught me. DO NOT GO TO UCA
This university is absolutely terrible. Honestly i hated my experience in UCA throughout the whole three years I’ve attended. I have no lessons, all our tutors quit which they did not want to replace. After applying for an extension due to my metal health and asking for three weeks they refused that and gave me one week. I’m am extremely struggling and the lack of help is appalling. Whilst everyone’s graduation are going ahead, they refuse to let us have a graduation.
No help at all. I’ve been here for three years and had no guidance in using the facilities. Still closed cause of covid.
Terrible. Office staff are rude via email and made me feel helpless.
Could have been better, the staff as much as they try to make a enjoyable uni experience fail at keeping the students fully engaged in the year, a course rework would be needed as the uni has the potential
Not really the uni’s fault but the field is too competitive so it’s hard anyway getting a career
Decent lectures on a bunch of different subject that also interact with photography but not enough collaborative effort and workshops
Pretty good i think
So far my experience at the university has been good, given the circumstances, we have already been taught a wide range of skills and been given great opportunities. We have access to great equipment and many of the staff are extremely supportive.
Many students who attend this university leave with a job or with a variety of job opportunities available to them. I believe the university equips us with the skills especially needed for the field we want to go into
Though it was hard with online teaching, I feel that the tutors tried their hardest to give us the best quality teaching they could given the circumstances. They provided a good level of support for students, especially those in different countries.
The university has a range of state of the art equipment, which is a huge help to have access to on my course.
Generally support from the tutors is excellent however, in terms of disabled help I feel it is limited, still good but could probably have a wider range of support. For mental health, the only support I am aware of is a well being session taking place once a week for each year group.
As i said the overall experience is really frustrating and I think that no other international student should get enrolled at this university for more than £25000 fees for less then 1 year course. I could have done my Master at Oxford or Cambridge University with this amount of fees they are asking for. If the review option allows me to give numerical scores for the review i would i give the following score: 0 out of 10
No help or support for employment.
We been taught online only without any proper guidelines or any further announcement about the course. Finance and accounting subjects should be taught properly but complete lack of interest in students. 0 Communication if any request or inquiry made by the student, been with them since September 2020 and no Student photo ID card has been issued to me until 31 March 2021 and still waiting. Completed Post Graduation Diploma in BM but nor confirmation or letter issued from the university and this course was completed within less then 3 months which they consider to be one semester it is a complete Joke. Received further fees payment request by emails more then 3 times even before starting the main course which should have been started on 23 February 2021 and was informed by one of the student which started on 8th March 2021. Have not used campus facilities in last 6 months accept visiting the University for registration only. University must support student by giving them at least 50% discount during the Covid-19 situation while I do not have any job or place to live. I would not recommend any student to go there, please look around for other universities rather then ruining your academic career with them.
Never been to the campus accept for the registration day 6 months ago. I don't even know what facilities are there.
Lack of communication by emails no interest at all. No proper schedule for students class, been receiving emails for the other courses which are not relevant to mine.
Complete lack of interest in students practice with little to no guidance from most tutors. Also given very limited space to work in which often proves difficult managing this with students working on differing scales. Such a negative environment has made me regret taking a creative subject at university, I'm no longer interested in pursuing a career in the field at all. Don't do this course, please.
Lack of guidance from already unhelpful tutors doesn't inspire any forms of creativity. Only guest lecturers and tutors have proved helpful on the few occasions they have been on campus.
Plenty of facilities for larger scale works with metal and wood workshops easily available. However materials like paper, paint and canvas aren't freely provided.
Frequent emails regarding mental health support, yet a quick glance at the UCA Farnham freshers page proves how they fail to effectively address serious issues such as sexual harassment.
Not good. I look forward to leaving it all behind because it has stressed me out so much. Make sure you look around plenty of unis before choosing. I would not recomend UCA.
The tutors dont really care. If you couldnt get a good work placement that was tough they didnt care much. Careers department seem good though.
The tutors can be vague and often rude. They have obvious favourites and only seem to like those who work a certain way.
Ok but not a lot of space
It can be difficult to get to depending where you are
Not very interesting
Amazing. I've maintained my high grades. There is a more personal feeling in my uni compared to other unis and it provides the most creative atmosphere possible.
Good. They will help us to gain careers and work placements after uni, however advise us not to work during our degree due to the large amount of coursework
I love the intensity throguh tout the course. There could be better communication into what the portfolio should look like.
Very good. There are allective positions.
Absolutly! Close to my home, but only a short walk from all accomodations. Close to the center of town. Everything is within walking distance.
There are a number of clubs however there aren't a large number of sport clubs.
Very good. Everything is easy access
Lectures - 2 hours week max. Tutors - 10/20 minutes each 2 weeks.
Approx. 20 hours per week
Car park spaces (poor)
