The annual Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) highlight the incredible work carried out by institutions for their students. Due to Covid restrictions, this year’s awards were not collected on uni campuses as usual, but instead based on submissions from institutions, which were then judged by our special student panel.

The uni is great, the lecturers are helpful, I'm actually getting good grades due to help and overall it has been the best and i can't wait for the rest of it!
They set up job hiring events
I liked the most how they teach you the things that are actually on the exams.
Amazing, much better than other universities with the same course
Great, 20 minute walk away
Many different societies and sports to choose from
Great, you can schedule an appointment with your lecturers.
Its been okay, needed to take a gap year between year 2 and 3 for my mental health and they were very understanding. I would definitely recommend this uni for any future students
Theh support us eith lots of work placements and help us with knowledge for after uni
I like that the tutors help each student
Yes, but sometimes i would prefer to live in the city, because of train corruptions.
Unsure dont use them
This experience was something i have never experienced it before. I had some down moments but my tutors helped me a lot on thoes situations, but I had some good moments as well. I strongly believe that university life is a life changer.
HIRE is a department in the university and they help us alot to find placement for us. They often email us recent opportunities which is available and related to our course and then we apply to those placements. There is a session every week called graduate advantage where our tutor helps us to find placement for ourselves and also invites guest speakers to give us talk about thier success in the same field.
Practicals are the main things i like about my course. The thing i do not like about the course is optional modules which is not related to our course and felt like time wasting.
University College Birmingham student guilds is very poor. No communication links between student guilds and the students. They do not have experience to organize some kind of activities to bring students together. No such a trips. Bad thing about them is they asked students to plan things for them self. There is no games in student guilds area, empty Table Tennis table with no ball and bats. No winding machine for drinks and snakes. Guilds space is located in Maltings and there was a small shop but for some reason it has been shut down this year and because of this we had difficulties we food and drinks when we had lesson in the Maltings. Students Guilds needed to be better and at least organise Christmas gathering for students, it was very very disappointed from them.
Library is good and the staff is also friendly. New building is just open this semester called Moss House, where we have brand new facilities for our course like human performance lab. Good thing about UCB is they provide us a tablet, which we can use it in the lectures for research purposes and make notes. Plus doing assignment on tablet is a life saver. Food in the canteen could be better, not many options in food. Kick Start card is provided to every student, which we use it for our uniform and buy books from kick start website.
Yes it is right in the city centre and I can walk to the university as i lives in city centre.
Sport society is a joke as they have very limited sport options. They need to add more sports like cricket, basketball, volleyball, hockey, Badminton to the list.
Support wise is 10 out of 10, tutors are always available when we need help. Graduate Advantage is a session every week, this session is specifically for help and support which we gets from our tutors. Feedback on assessments are clear and helpful and learn from the mistakes which we made during assessments.
I have enjoyed every part of it because although it was a challenge, it enables me to put my Knowsley into practice and improve as a practitioner. Also I was able to gain part time employment which has improved my employability prospects as my skills have advanced massively.
University College Birmingham has an entire department dedicated to helping individuals build on their professional portfolios and improve on the qualities employers look for, for example CV’s or cover letters. This department is known as the hired department which caters for all students and even helps individuals kickstart their own businesses.
I love how placement is embedded within my academic studies as it enables me to put my knowledge and skills into professional practice alongside gain experience in a real life world. If I was to improve on the course then I would add more placement to enable students to gain as much real world experience.
I think the student union represents all individuals regardless of individual differences and provides a platform for students to confidently voice their opinions or concerns on certain topics. I am thinking of becoming apart of the student union as the community at UCB is very welcoming.
The facilities at UCB are brilliant as again the resources cater for courses and enable individuals to get the best learning experience with real life equipment which could potentially be used in work life.
My university is in great distance to my house and work place which is one of the few reasons why I decided to study at University College Birmingham. I am extremely pleased with the location of all three campuses within the university and I look forward to completing my degree here and hopefully applying for a postgraduate study. All 3 campuses including my house are within walking distance. In terms of local amenities, I could not be more thankful that UCB is at the center of Town which enables me to have easy access to my workplace, alongside social life. For example, I am able to eat out with friends in between lecture breaks and lunch breaks with enough time to walk back to the university. Thus, I am extremely happy with both the location of the university and the local amenities provided.
My university provided a student guild service whereby students can register to take part in multiple events including physical activity and sporting events. The student guild updates individuals on the type of activities or recreational activities the university offers alongside any events that may be coming up. Therefore, there are a wide range of societies provided for all students. UCB also offers payed roles as a student ambassador or jobs within marketing.
The support is amazing, the feedback from assignments are very detailed enables students to pinpoint the area of struggle and improve on them for the next examination.
I believe my experience so far has been outstanding. I may be getting up at 6am on Tuesday and Wednesday, but I still make the best out my experience and I hope my experience gets better.
UCB has a system where it helps you set up for the future.
They are very experienced, they hire the best people for every type of role. I'm a chef and the lecturers are amazing for the students!
I guarantee that there representation for students is amazing. The facilities are amazingly awesome! They bring out the best out in the highest attending students.
They are outstanding. Perfect for everyone in the buildings.
The university location is amazing. I can get there within 50 minutes. Its a close area which is just outside the centre of Birmingham. UCB is amazing. Everything they done is astonishing. The local accommodation is cool aswell as there are places where you can eat close by. Also the library and museum are close which are perfect for studying.
I believe everything is amazing. UCB has its own gym for a cheap price per year and the equipment is perfect. They have many buildings.
Tutors are very helpful. They even help you with English and everything else.
My overall university experience is excellent because of high standards in staff and high standards in external things as how does facilities looks, study theatres and so on. I feel really welcome in university and because of amount time and effort that professors provide to us I have even more motivation to be better every single time and to take as much knowledge as i can till i am at university.
University is providing to students various job opportunities through Unitemps and help with managing carrier options and interview preparations through Hiered team at university.
I like a lot open door policy and opportunity to provide your opinion and your thoughts about some case study or information that professor said. My course is also really beneficial for future enterprenours and everyione with a willinges for self-actualisation and opportunity to make something on their own.
Student Union is providing also quality amount of events that for some people means a lot.
University facilities are on high standard wirh modern technology and beautifull study theatars and also university has bought new facility which is also equipet with modern technology and modern rest-spaces for its student which provides motivation to students to study even more in plesent environment.
My university is in ideal place and it really good provides interesting events and trips to students that attend univesity which is also benefit for students that live in accomodation because its really close.
There is many societies which can provide us with a lot of interesting events and shared knowledge, I am personnaly in the business society and i cozld never be more satisfied with work they do which drives me to also be better at uni and in future to be in a better position inside of society.
Tutors are really efficient and university also provide a lot of help through CASE team and WELBEING team which can help a lot with student problems as time management or managing job and university.
Its been good. There is a lack of student union which is slightly annoying. The course is a lot of fun but I do not like that there is no practical work which is also anoying
Yes thet offer help with finding worl placements and graduate jobs
We are only in 3 days a week so plentt of time outside lectures to do work and have a social life. Good lecturer although can be very unorganized
The students Union is not very big and unlike other universities around there isnt a good social space to use for events
Good facilities related to my course
Not far from the library of Birmingham or the city centre and train stations. Easy to get to.
Theres not really any societies that aren't sport based which is annoying as im not. Sporty person.
Lots of serices available, help woth work in the library and learning center. Good support from all staff
It’s good. Would recommend U C B to anyone. It’s good. Would recommend U C B to anyone. It’s good. Would recommend U C B to anyone. It’s good. Would recommend U C B to anyone.
It has been amazing I loved the course and the overall uni. I found the bakeries very similar to industry and therefore very cool . I really like the accommodation it is secure and comfortable
It gives a lot of effort with the graduate advantage programme
I love the practicals and I don’t like the the graduate advantage because it is a little boring but it is useful
It is good
Amazing , especially bakery
It is perfect
There could be more non sport societies
It's been great! The people I am staying with in halls are now my really good friends. I've only had 1 dodgy night out and the rest have been great! I would say that laundry is a bit expensive. There's a tescos and a sainsburys walking distance away which is great for buying food or just some small things needed. Overall, I'm loving it! Although the work is a bit hard, especially with all these specific requirements that they have to go by, but I'm getting used to it!
They do job events which you can go to and seek a job.
I like the most when pictures are drawn so I can get the information in my head another way that just written. I don't really like when at the end of a lecture, the lecturer gives some questions of something we did in the past week or even something we did that day and if I can't remember or didn't get it, then I would find it difficult to answer.
Great, the communal area is really nice and comfy especially when you have two hours to kill between lectures. Everything is really clean and hygienic.
Yes it's only a 20 minute walk away from accommodation which is great and then also a 20 minute walk from the centre of town which is good.
There are many varieties of societies and sports clubs to take part in although the Uni itself doesn't fund these societies and instead funds other people which seems unfair to us.
The support is great. You can book a case appointment for help on assignments or even just drop in and ask a few questions and they'll see you quite quickly.
