I have recently completed a BA(Hons) in Games Design at Teesside university. The facilities for the course were fantastic but the course itself is a complete let down. If you are planning to do the games design course you will leave university knowing how to make a games document, write an evaluation and learn UDK well enough to make a level in. The university is deluded to think the games design course prepares you for a job after uni, all games dev/design jobs require you to have in depth knowledge on C-sharp/C++ coding which the course doesn't even mention once! But instead waste time on unimportant subjects like history of games. If you are looking to become a games designer I strongly recommend you look into the other Game courses like coding, animation or Games art and come out with an actual degree that will get you a job in the industry. Please don't make the same mistake as the countless students I have seen these past 3 years and do a course that doesn't limit your potential and offers you actual skills to use in the games industry...
excellent
1st yr Accounting and Finance Student Teesside was my first choice and i have to say I'm quite happy I chose it. In general the uni itself is great. All uni facilities are up to standard, lectures are helpful and make themselves available to help at students request. Continuous student opportunities available (entrepreneurial). The people here are great, very friendly! it's a good place to be at. Stayed in Parkside village east and i loved the my room and size not too big not too small. Met the best people ever (I think i was pretty lucky to be best mates with all my housemates) from a halls and the houses. Laundry facilities have just been upgraded and they are great, you get to check online if your washing's done and if there are any available machines so you don't have to wait in the laundry room. Night life is great, i particularly loved the student nights because well you get to know everyone really well and even if say you leave the house on your own, once you get there you won't be. STUDENT UNION IS AWESOME... nuf said. Like any other 'city' you do have to be careful of theft and muggings and break ins. MAKE SURE YOU GET INSURANCE. It may seem like an unnecessary expense but better safe... Societies and clubs are great, I personally play w.rugby met a few other club and society members, they seem nice enough but nothing and no one really beats the women's rugby group :p all in all GO FOR IT. Hope this helped.
Overall is average, especially the facilities are fully integrated. Other than that, the accommodation cost is cheap and reasonable. However, the study is a little below average for the course i'm taking.
