Really helpful in terms of support and tha vailable materials
I have enjoyed my overall university experience so far, I have regretted some of my previous decisions, however overall this course has been fun, useful, yet challenging which I enjoy.
This university course helps teach us a variety of skills that will help us in our field of study, but also ensures that we research into the subject at hand ourselves to help develop our skills further. It also allows us to get better at working with groups due to the fact that games development generally revolves around different team members working on individual roles and then combining their work together to form a final game/project.
I find the fact that we are taught both as a class and on a one-to-one basis helpful as it is useful to have both types of teaching in a course, as it is helpful for not just myself but other students as well.
The facilities at the university are very helpful as there is a range of different software on the computers that is very useful in our work, software that is useful includes: Unity, 3ds Max, Photoshop etc. Also the option to use VR equipment is a big opportunity in itself.
The tutors have been very helpful over the past 2 years, as they are always there to help when in need and they also provide good feedback on how I can improve my work, and strive towards a higher grade. I can't comment on personal support as I haven't needed to use it.
I've enjoyed all the tools and equipment that he have been given access to and I am also appreciative that the tutors give us a lot of trust to do what we want.
The college provides with all the necessary hardware and software that we need which would be used by most industry standards companies so we are experienced in using industry standard tools.
I like how we are essentially given the freedom to use the software that we are given to how we use it and how we are allowed to essentially create whatever we want. I also like how the tutors give us a lot of resources to progress on our own.
We are given access to all the essential hardware and software that we need to progress out skills.
I'm a mature student entering a mixed age degree course, the tutors and course leader have really made an effort to ensure all the students spend time getting to know one another and feel comfortable around each other. This has made the transition back in to study a lot smoother for me. I'm happy on my course and am starting to see real result in work place from the learning gained on my course.
We have a careers department that offers drop in and appointments service and we also have dedicated time to work on a personal development plan - which aims to highlight our career goals and create an action plan of how to achieve them.
Our course is taught in small class sizes so we get the opportunity to ask questions or ask for clarification during lectures. The course classes are quite short and intense at times, however this is the payoff of choosing a day release degree course.
We have a large canteen that is open until late for students, we also have a great gym that offers big discounts and our hair beauty students have an onsite salon that offers very discounted treatments. Not to mention a library and break out rooms.
The lecturers are also happy to take time outside of the classroom to offer guidance. We also have lots of information posted around the college if anyone is having a personal crisis - they know where to ask for help.
My overall university experience so far has been very successful. I am currently flourishing within my course and am working to a much higher level than I originally thought I was capable of. The tutor support has really pushed me to work hard and try my hardest in all subjects.
Throughout the course, a number of modules including work experience and employability skills are intergrated into the timetable. These sessions give use the ability to experience possible job roles that we may choose to go into in the future, giving us additional knowledge and understanding of how the job is completed and what it entitles. The work experience sessions also help to give us guidance of how are CV should look and what we should be putting on them. Completing the work experience gives is an additional area to speak about within our CV. The employability sessions help us to understand what is expected of us and how we can improve and learn skills that employers are looking for. The lessons allow us to evaluate our current skills and identify ways in which we can improve.
The course is well structured and fits around other commitments such as work. All tutors have high levels of knowledge within their teaching area and are always willing to go the extra mile to help. Tutors structure lessons so that they flow and therefore ensures we don’t miss out on critical criteria. The lessons taught within this course are relevant to possibly future careers therefore giving us the knowledge needed to pursue our career goals. Marking and feedback on work is always quick and to a good standard. Within the course there are times when there are multiple assignments due in within the same time period. This can become very stressful and sometimes work is not completed to its best standard. The course could also be taught with more practical aspects.
There are plenty of computers within the college to ensure one is available when needed however there are a number of them that tend to turn off in the middle of completing work. The internet in the college is also very weak, when in lessons tutors will try and show us videos in order to aid learning but due to the slow internet some videos will not play. The library is very useful for books in all subjects and aids with completing assignments. Within the sports block, there is a gym, sports hall and laboratory. The gym has all relavent equipment required and the sports hall can be booked out When required. Although the lab is very small, relevant tests can be completed without any issues. Software at the college could do with some updating, within our sports analysis class it would be useful to use sports analysis specific software however this is only available on one laptop throughout the whole college.
Tutors are extremely supportive and are always available to talk when needed. All tutors reply to emails quickly and answer any questions to a good level. Feedback on assignments is always on time and gives us ways to improve as well as praising us for completing work to a good level. Within the HE area, we have a HE admissions officer who is always willing to talk and aid with any issues that may have arisen. She is very friendly and very approachable. I haven’t actually had to ever have any counselling or any other services from the college. These services should be more advertised as I don’t think many people are actually aware of them.
Love it . Making the transition from a labouring apprenticeship was a big step but it is one that has developed me as a person and has helped prepare me for life outside of education and in the working world
Great staff and top facilities that allow you to complete work to the highest standard . A variety of units that are all interesting . Top course Sport iz gud
Spaced out over the week with enough time in and out of the classroom with a practical element added in some units
Very good and modern to allow for accurate data to be collected and top performance to be analysed
Haven't had the need to see counsellor but the tutor feedback is great and returned quick
I am thoroughly enjoying my time in Solihull. I have been pushed academically to achieve my best. The tutors make every lesson exciting and as classes are only small you are able to engage with tutors and I find it interesting to have classes discussion with them as you get to know them better as do there. Thus, Solihull makes your university experience feel more personal unlike larger university where you can feel like just a number.
Solihull has a very good careers office who are always happy to help. The have great links on there moodle page to help guide you when deciding on what career path to take. Additionally, every year a careers fair is held giving students the ability to start communicating with employers and get a foot in the door.
The teaching at Solihull is great, each tutor is extremely helpful and will always ensure you have everything you need to complete each assessment. As I university student you would be like to be taught by people at the top of their respected field, however, some tutors at Solihull are more catered for as FE tutors.
Everything at Solihull is up to date and well looked after. Brand new labs were fitted last year ,meaning everything is perfect condition.
The support here is excellent with tutors responding both in class and over emails promptly with strong feedback ensuring to can achieve the best grade possible. Personally I have not used any of the personal support here at Solihull so I would be unable to comment.
Awesome We have access to lots of hardware that we can make use of and there is air conditioning in our room
