Our collection of real, honest student reviews of unis and courses is the largest in the UK, and helps you make well-informed decisions about your future. Student reviews also form the basis of our annual Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs), which highlight great work carried out by institutions for their students.
Essex is a great facility for socializing. There’s a lot of social events that can help you build connections well. It also has a great range of lectures and social workers that are really there for you when you need them. I really wouldn’t change anything right now about it.
Overall, I feel like their teaching is great and thorough but honestly, some of my lecturers accents are a bit strong and it’s hard as an international student to understand them
Overall, I like that the accommodation was cleaned weekly and also it was easily accessible. It was a good distance between campus and Kaplan.
The worst aspect has to be getting to the uni - getting over that bridge is the worst part, as all students who live in the other accommodations can relate. The best part has to be the rogue nights that happen on campus, a student led activity where all students comes together is the best part. What could be improved overall is having shuttle buses that motivate students to now come and attend regular lectures, as well as having lectureres involving more questions directed to the students to answer too.
Courses could also include blended learning, some online and some in person. Those of us who have to travel over the bridge now have to wake up extra early, and when we arrive at campus, we feel very tired. Also, the coffee doesn't help, as it's always so expensive, so there is no time.
the campus is beautiful with a lot of green areas and many activities to help us with our studies and stress
I like it, there is plenty of benefits and the tutors are super nice and helpful and I don't find any bad aspect
there are plants and a lot of trees that gives a calm and and beautiful area to study
Best would be the facilities and worst would be the student life.
..
Most is the kitchen and worst is the price
Best: Safety of nights out Cleanliness SU Events - quiz, bingo, FED Essex start ups offering amazing opportunities SU president offering insight via emails and social media, defeating the us against them trait Accessible accommodation The market place!!! Improve: My printing allowance ? Parking Common room areas for commuting students Normalise being penalised for poor attendance Recreational activities - badminton, table tennis, etc. Birthday treats
Best: Some amazing lecturers The contents of the library Enthusiasm from teachers bringing personality into a class Moodle outline Improve: Feedback on coursework- make it make sense ! Resources (text books, print outs) provided by the uni Classes being awkward or no participation
Best: Own space On suit Kitchen area Weekly/daily cleaners Friendly Bed being decent Tesco down the road Uber eats Worst: Flatmates NOT clearing up after themselves Being put in an all male flat as a female (first year) Smelling like death some times THE HEATING when it’s broken !!! 29° thought I was dying
There are all kinds of events every day, so you'll always find something interesting to do. This makes it easier for students to meet each other and contributes to student life! The only thing that could be improved is maybe the accomodation, some of them being far away and some others being a bit old. But the response team in case of issues or emergencies is quick so it's a good thing!
The facilities are quite good! The teachers really care about students. They try to make their course interactive and are available if we need help. The only downside is that the seminar and lecture classes are basically the same. Sometimes the seminar is just a teacher talking about the content of the course (so a lecture) and there isn't any interaction between students and teacher or between students themselves. I think that would help making students more interested in the topics taught.
My accomodation is close to the gym, the parking lot and to the center of the university which is great! The building in itself is also good. However the kitchen is a bit old, with only 2 fridges for 6 students, an oven that makes a weird noise when we put it on the fan mode. The bathroom is also not practical because the water takes a lot of time to evacuate through the drain (so it's wet around the toilets for like a day after one shower). The matress is also not really good. All things that could be ignored if the price were lower but the accomodation is really expensive.
It is a lovely uni I feel safe on campus and there are a lot of student focused events with there being always something to do or new to try such as sports of creative or parties and there are a surplus of academically benefiting opportunities aswell. Something that could improve would be awareness about how to utilize your time at uni effectively and also mental health help
I really like the examination style as a dyslexic the low pressure online format has transformed my grades compared to my academic journey before university and my deep stresses surrounding exams have been subsided greatly upon seeing results in a style that works for me
The building is secure and modern nothing is broken however a common room where students can meet and express themselves would be a great opportunity that is currently missing here
overall a nice place to study
overall a good course and great teachers
My university stands out as an exceptional place to study due to its dynamic academic environment, inclusive community, and commitment to personal growth. The campus fosters intellectual curiosity through well-equipped libraries, modern learning spaces, and access to cutting-edge research tools. Lecturers are not only knowledgeable but also approachable, encouraging students to explore ideas beyond the classroom. Beyond academics, the university cultivates a strong sense of belonging. Student-led societies, cultural events, and volunteering opportunities create a vibrant social atmosphere where diverse voices are celebrated. This inclusive spirit helps students build lasting friendships and develop leadership skills. Moreover, the university actively supports career development. From internship placements to workshops on CV writing and interview skills, students are empowered to transition confidently into the professional world. My own experience—participating in media campaigns and organizing events—has sharpened my communication and project management abilities. Ultimately, my university is more than just a place of study; it’s a launchpad for future success, personal growth, and lifelong learning.
