The student union is amazing and offers lots of support and chances to get involved within the community. Some teaching facilities aren’t very modern
Student Union - great nights out, good food options and everything is very affordable. Facilities - Architecture has the library, workshops, studios all in one building and everything is very accessible and all the amenities are here. Sadly theres no cafe but the access to kitchens with microwaves and fridges makes up for that and makes it much cheaper as students on student budgets. Green space - the university is right next to bute park and surrounds alexandra gardens and parc mackenzie which are great spots to get fresh air over lunch etc. Only way to improve would be for a coffee shop in Bute Building
Cardiff itself is a lovely city and it has afforded me a great social life. However, the course at university has not been quite what I’ve been hoping for, as there have been heinous budget cuts which has immensely negatively affected the quality of the course and the subjects available for study
It's a very student orientated city with the university being very integrated in daily life. There are lots of social opportunities with many societies but I think the university should make it easier to learn about how to get involved. Also for my subject I have found it difficult to feel motivated by the teaching staff and I haven't felt compelled to engage as much as I wish I had.
Student life good, but like boring sometimes (during holidays when students leave for home)
the best aspects are the accessibility of educational tools, the placement of study areas and the facilities. the student union holds many different departments who offer friendly faces and are happy to help. The same can be said about the student centre of life where staff members are incredibly nice and make the process of booking appointments efficient. An issue however i think is the depth of attention and care paid to students, particularly concerning mental well-being. Infamously university is a new scary beginning and students handle this anxiety in different ways, i think more provisions should be put in place and although students have a personal tutor, they usually meet with these staff members in groups. I believe a far more helpful option would be to provide students with one to one meetings with well being officers, as once things become overwhelming for students, reaching out to the well being department to speak to a staff member who is a stranger is rather daunting.
It's walkable and has a lot of character, the people are lovely and there is so much to explore and to experience, the academic side is incredible and its super rewarding.
Best - the atmosphere of campus and how friendly lecturers are. Everything feels quite welcoming and accessible Could be improve and modernise some of the older building which don’t regulate temperature as well
best - really great SU study spaces and good facilities etc. also love the older buildings and libraries worst - maybe lacking in complete student mental health support
The best aspects would be the lecture content. The worst aspects of my university experience would be the timetabling of assessments and examinations.
Cardiff is a great place to study - amazing students union and good facilities
A nice place to study but they’ll drop your course claiming budget reasons but still pay the vice chancellor £300k a year
Overall, it’s a fantastic place to study because of the quality of teaching, the welcoming community, and the range of opportunities available. One of the best aspects of my university experience has been the strong sense of community. The supportive environment among students and staff makes it a genuinely great place to study. Lecturers are approachable, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their subjects, which makes learning engaging and motivating. The course structure is well-designed, balancing theory with practical application, and it prepares students effectively for future careers. Increasing access to wellbeing and academic support services during peak assessment periods would make a significant difference. Expanding quiet study spaces during exam season would also help accommodate the higher demand. With improved communication and slightly more student-focused flexibility in administrative processes, the experience could be even better.
More places to eat and study at the dental school.
The Cardiff student union is able to offer an incredibly wide variety of societies for students to be a part of; there is truly a society for everyone. The location of the main campus is a short walk/ bus ride into the centre making life very convenient. However, the recent funding cuts have been really disappointing, and I think it is unacceptable that they are axing certain degrees, and merging multiple departments into one huge department, it doesn't fill me this hope that I will receive the same level of care, attention and teaching throughout the rest of my degree. And unfortunately these cuts are disproportionately affecting the humanities, arts and languages yet STEM subjects continue to on as normal and face no threats.
The city and people are brilliant, and the social life is fantastic. My course has been cut from the uni so it’s been a little lacklustre and lack of funding which has resulted in 4 hours of content a week. Not great.
Cardiff city is a great location for students and the university had lots of career, technical and health related support for students. My course specifically is very vigorous and we barely have any breaks (no reading weeks).
Best = work placement opportunities Worst= some buildings need updates

The best experience!
