The Norland community is like a family and with the chance to meet so many likeminded people, I could not recommend it enough. Bath is a stunning area to live and work, with so much available for all types of students; from a range of cafes and churches to night clubs and cinemas.
Norland is a university like no other. It provides high quality training, equipping us with a range of practical skills and academic knowledge we can apply to our practice. The amount of practical experience we receive is incredible and sets us up for the world of work. The lecturers and other staff members are always there to support us.
Thank you for your feedback
I really enjoy studying at Norland. It’s a smaller uni so the lecturers really get the chance to know you and you get to know them in a way. They have taken on suggestions well from current students so we get a chance to have a say in lots of areas through the student leadership team and feedback and suggestion forms. We have access to the bath spa student Union, however I haven’t used anything that is part of it, but it seems quite complicated to find from what I can remember.
W eleven so many practical skills that set us up for a career in childcare, and I am glad for the fact that it isn’t all nanny specific, as I love nannying but know it won’t be a lifelong career for me, I can use my degree for other things like nursery management. The Placement are amazing, we have a few each year and are given so much experience. The lecturers are all really smart, and want us to succeed. They will try their best to help even out of lecture times if you needed extra support with an assignment or some of the contact etc. I particularly like how after we graduate we have access to the Norland agency, meaning I have a very high chance of getting a job after as nannies are very sought after. My course has tried to be as much as possible in person, even after the first lockdown when I started in September 2020 it was blended, so we had full days of lectures still and practical lessons in person. We have full days, with our lectures 9-4:30 Monday-Thursday with occasional guest speakers on a friday that link to our modules.
Lots of nightlife although I don’t go out, big park for picnics in the summer, city centre with primark etc, and an apple store, as it is bath the parking is horrendous, however finding a student house with parking isn’t an issue and I have managed to find spaces close to college when I drive in
Thank you for your feedback
Norland is like no other, it is such a unique place and feel very lucky to be a student - I believe that in the future I would love a stronger student union but even though Norland is a small uni they do offer us the chance to join other unions
The lecturers are great at Norland and super on it all the time ! The course is full on but manageable and this is made through the support of the staff and the college
Thank you for your feedback
I’ve always wanted to attend Norland, I feel very supported and I love the course. I find it so interesting and the lecturers make it so much fun. The facilities are modern and an amazing standard and really help with learning.
I adore my course, the lecturers are so helpful and supportive and I’ve never had a problem with contacting them.
Bath is a beautiful city, with so much to do and so many opportunities with jobs and social life. I feel very safe in Bath, however it is not the most diverse city.
Thank you for your feedback
I have really enjoyed my experience at Norland. There is great support from all staff. Everyone at Norland is friendly and helpful.
You learn so much at Norland. The staff are all knowledgeable and are passionate about childcare. There is a good balance between academic assignments and practical placements
Thank you for your feedback
Norland is like one great, big family. I’ve always felt so supported by everyone there. We get huge amounts of contact hours for lectures which has been great for the academic side of the course. Having half the year spent on placement has been a good form of blended learning meaning I can use my practical and academic skills in practice with children at the ages I am likely to work with. As part of the Student Staff Liason Committee, I have seen a lot of the ‘behind-the-scenes’ at Norland. The staff are constantly trying to make changes to help the students and really make an effort to hear our voices. It’s an amazing place!
The course is taught mostly in-class with one lesson a week online for an hour. I love this approach as it means I can ask questions there and then to make things a lot clearer. I do wish our library hours were extended slightly like other universities.
Thank you for your feedback
Norland has a nice intimate feel, but the library space is very small and the lecture rooms are quite bland with uncomfortable seating. Student support is very helpful.
Balance of lectures and placements is really good!
Thank you for your feedback
Enjoy lectures as they are interactive however the word part is not understanding assessments very well and finishing at 4:30
I like that we have all Development based lessons in person and most of the lectures themselves are in a classroom based environment
Thank you for your feedback
Love the practical side of the course but I do struggle with the academic
The academic is difficult
