Just started my MSc Data Science at Middlesex University this January! It's been an exciting dive into the world of data, and I'm still figuring out all the best and worst aspects. So far, the lectures have been super engaging, and I'm already loving the challenge of problem-solving. I'm also really impressed with the university's resources and facilities! Of course, it's a steep learning curve, and some of the advanced concepts are a bit mind-boggling, but that's part of the adventure, right?

Living in Usher Hall has been quite an experience, and I've definitely learned a thing or two about the accommodation! On the plus side, the location is absolutely unbeatable, making it super easy to get around the city . The communal spaces are usually pretty good for socializing, which is a definite bonus. However, let's just say the room sizes aren't exactly palatial, and sometimes you have to get creative with storage! The shared kitchen facilities can also be a bit of a challenge during peak hours, so early bird or night owl cooking is key. Overall, it's a decent place to crash, especially with all the amazing spots nearby.

Online work and in person lectures great mix for different learning types

The blended learning approach works well overall, with a good balance between in-class teaching, laboratory sessions, and online resources. Practical lab work is a strong part of the course and helps link theory to real biomedical applications. Lecturers are generally approachable and supportive, and there are opportunities to ask questions during sessions or via email. The course covers a broad range of topics, which helps build a solid foundation in biomedical science. At times, contact hours can feel limited for some modules, especially when complex topics are introduced, which means a lot of independent learning is required. Communication around assessments, deadlines, and timetable changes could be clearer and more consistent. Some online materials could also be better structured or more interactive to support learning outside of class, and more regular feedback from lecturers would be helpful.

We only have 6 hours of contact time per week and it’s a lot of independent work and can be hard to balance

- One of the best aspects of my course is that assignments are generally straightforward, and we usually get the chance to practice similar tasks before the final submission, which really helps build confidence and understanding. The lecturers are supportive and approachable, and the course balances theory with practical learning, helping students develop useful skills for future careers. The learning environment is friendly, and group work and class activities make the experience more engaging. To make the course even better, I would like to see more practical lessons so students can gain additional hands-on experience. It would also be helpful if more lectures were recorded, as this allows students to review material at their own pace and catch up if they miss anything. Overall, the course provides a positive learning experience and good preparation for professional life, and these improvements would enhance it further.

What I like most about the university halls is the convenience of living close to campus and being around other students, which makes it easier to make friends and feel part of university life. However, the halls are quite expensive for what you actually get, so the value for money isn’t great. Property management and maintenance are also not very reliable, and issues can take a long time to be resolved, which can be frustrating when you’re paying a high amount for accommodation. Overall, the halls are okay and convenient for students, but improvements in pricing and management would make the experience much better.

I like most the location, facilities. The thing that I like least is the price of it, it is really expensive for student accommodation, unless you’d have a job you could realistically not be able to afford to live there
