One of the best parts of my university experience has been the supportive and diverse community. As an international student studying 3D Animation for Games and Film, I’ve felt encouraged to be creative and experiment with my ideas. The course is very hands-on, which has helped me build a strong portfolio and gain practical skills that feel relevant to the industry. The lecturers are approachable and knowledgeable, and many genuinely care about students’ growth and progress. The library and facilities are also great, especially during deadline season, as there are plenty of spaces to work and access resources. Areas for improvement: One area that could be improved is access to facilities during busy periods. Having the library open 24/7, especially during exam and deadline seasons, would be extremely beneficial for students who work better late at night. Additionally, having more affordable and varied food options on or near campus would greatly improve student life, particularly for those spending long hours studying. These changes would make the overall university experience more convenient and supportive.
Best aspects: The best part of my course is how hands-on and practical it is. Teaching is mainly delivered through in-class sessions and workshops, which allows us to learn industry-standard software and techniques while actively creating work. The balance between theory and practice helps develop both technical skills and creative thinking. Lecturers are approachable and supportive, and there is regular contact time where feedback is given on our work, which has been really helpful for improving my portfolio and understanding industry expectations. Areas for improvement: At times, the course can feel very intensive, particularly around deadlines, as multiple projects may overlap. While support from lecturers is available, having more evenly spaced deadlines or additional structured guidance during peak periods could help reduce pressure. Occasionally, more contact hours or extended workshop time would be beneficial, especially when working on complex software or final projects.
Like most: What I like most about Platt Halls is the convenience and sense of community. Living close to campus makes attending classes and using facilities really easy, especially during busy weeks. The rooms are generally comfortable and provide everything you need as a student, and having bills included makes budgeting much simpler. It’s also a great way to meet people from different backgrounds, which really adds to the overall university experience. Like least / areas for improvement: One downside is that halls can feel quite expensive for the space provided, especially compared to private accommodation. Kitchen and communal areas can also become crowded or messy at times, depending on who you live with. However, the maintenance and weekly kitchen cleaner truly help the hygiene of shared spaces, which I appreciate as a student.
I love the enthusiasm of most of the lecturers and tutors. They are passionate about what they do and it makes a positive difference in the course. I do find overall communication the worst aspect of the uni, lack of responsiveness to emails from different teams and also a lack of student events which are of interest for me.
The course is taught in person as a format divided between lectures, seminars and workshops. This is suitable and approachable. The hours are usually split across 3 days and cover approx 14 in person hours each week. I think the opportunity to attend office hours for feedback at assignment time is useful.
Student support it's out of this world Very kind very helpful teaching stuff Very professional
All perfect for now
All well for students
Strong practical coursework – Modules are assignment-based rather than exam-heavy, which helped me build real skills through projects like coding tasks, reports, and group work instead of only theory. Approachable lecturers (especially in Computing) – Most tutors are genuinely supportive and reply to emails quickly, and they’re willing to explain concepts again during office hours. Good learning spaces on Hendon campus – The library, quiet zones, and computer labs are useful for long study sessions, especially during deadlines. Slow admin responses (area to improve) – Student services and timetable changes sometimes take too long, which can be stressful during assessment periods. Limited industry exposure (area to improve) – There could be more guest speakers, company collaborations, and internships directly linked to modules, especially for tech courses. High living costs around London (challenge) – Accommodation and transport are expensive, so more affordable housing support would help students a lot.
Blended learning works well – Having recorded lectures on MyLearning alongside in-class sessions helps revise complex topics like algorithms and machine learning, especially close to deadlines. Practical, coursework-based assessment – Most modules focus on projects rather than exams, which improves real coding, debugging, and report-writing skills. Good lecturer accessibility – Tutors are approachable during labs and respond reasonably fast on email/UniHelp, making it easier to clarify technical doubts. Hands-on lab sessions – Programming labs and workshops provide structured time to practice Python/Java, databases, and system design with guidance available. Uneven workload across modules – Some modules have overlapping deadlines, making certain weeks extremely heavy while others are lighter.
The environment is nice super friendly and everything is basically laid out for you to do. My teacher is great and wants to make sure we actually understand and succeed. The only thing I didn't really like was that the accommodation situation. The uni accommodation isn't as easy to leave especially is you can't afford it you'll still be liable to pay for it so that's the only thing that's making the experience bad.
I love the course and I think it's very fleshed out. It's also more practical than theoretical and it's giving me the skills that are necessary for my career.
I like the halls. It has wifi, cleaner and staff that are available 24/7 to help you with basically any complaints. The only thing is that you're not able to leave it easily especially if you can't afford you're liable to pay even if you decide to go and leave and you have to find someone to replace it and that part wasn't as advertised when we're told about the halls.
Student social life at Middlesex is genuinely one of the highlights of the experience. There are so many avenues to meet people and build friendships, whether it’s hanging out in communal spaces like MDX House and the Quad, joining societies, or taking part in events. The university does a great job of creating an environment where you can relax, connect, and feel part of a community. Because there are societies for so many interests and cultural groups, it’s easy to find people you relate to or discover something completely new. Another thing that makes MDX stand out is how multicultural it is. You meet people from all over the world, and there’s a good chance you’ll find someone from your country, your region, or even your tribe. That sense of familiarity, combined with exposure to so many different cultures create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. It’s one of the reasons the campus feels so vibrant. Overall, MDX is a great place to study because of its community, diversity, and practical approach to learning, but like any university, some areas could be refined to make the student experience even smoother, and I believe Middlesex is always there to help out.
Academically, my Data Science course has been a strong point as well. It’s very hands-on, which I appreciate, because instead of just learning theory, you’re constantly applying what you know to real challenges. Most of the coursework is challenge-based and applied data science, so the assignments double as portfolio pieces you can actually show to employers. That practical approach makes the learning feel relevant and gives you confidence that you’re building skills you’ll use in the workplace. Lectures are arranged so that you’re typically on campus no more than three days a week, which creates a healthy balance between taught sessions and independent study. That extra flexibility makes it easier to manage your workload, revise at your own pace, and still have time for part-time work, personal projects, or social activities. It’s a setup that really supports students who want to make the most of their time both academically and outside the classroom. The accessibility of lecturers is also a major positive. They’re easy to reach via email, and many are available in their offices for drop-in conversations. That openness makes it much easier to clarify concepts, get feedback, or ask for guidance when you’re stuck. It creates a supportive learning environment where you don’t feel like you’re navigating the course alone.
Inclusive campus with plenty to do and great course
Taught in person and block placements
Spacious en suite bathrooms for everyone, 6 people shared kitchen
I think overall the facilities are worldclass
I think more focus should be given to career development
My best experiences have been the events that take place like crafty corner, speed meet and other mdxsu events i don't I've had a worst a experience just classes are a bit stressful but that's normal academic pressure that everyone goes through so yeah the uni is great overall
The worst part was doing research but it was worth it because I got to learn a whole lot and the best parts is my classes cos I have an amazing teacher Mr George
I like how social and close to school the hostel is it's very nice but the price is a bit much and there isn't much help when it comes to payment plans so yeah that's the only issues I have i wish there would be a suitable installment plan for students regardless of anything
