The annual Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) highlight the incredible work carried out by institutions for their students. Due to Covid restrictions, this year’s awards were not collected on uni campuses as usual, but instead based on submissions from institutions, which were then judged by our special student panel.

I love university, 2nd year in and im really happy, i did not think i was the right type of person for university, never got the best grades but the foundation degree has really helped me out.
Due to a lot of the students within my class working full time, the tutors are very helpful regarding support .A lot of the class have their own placements at work, on the other hand if placements are needed, the tutors help to find suitable placements.
I think the tutors are very welcoming, warm and helpful. Whether your in their class or need support on another topic, the tutors are there to help. The tutors help by putting research onto presentations to support us to find journals and give us tasks at home to do which link well with out assignments.
I don't really have a lot to say, i go to university, im happy with whats going on their, im passing my assignments so nothing needs to be involved with.
We have everything we need at university, food, warmth and computers. Happy overall with facilities.
I have always lived within Middlesbrough so it is something i am used to. Lot's going on, Lots to do.
I have a lot of support from tutors, for example current mental health issues and my tutors are so supportive. I feel so reassured throughout lessons which is brilliant as reassurance is something i need. Tutors are always open for talking about what ever is needed whether this be university or personal.
I have loved studying at Middlesbrough college it has been a really good experience and i would recommend the course to any one. Keep up the good work Middlesbrough college!!!
As part of the course we undertake a unit called continuing professional development and this incorporates employability skills and interview techniques as well as teaching us how to apply for relevant jobs.
I like the way the course is taught, the tutors are helpful and teach us all the relevant information and they offer one to one support with essays.
Not sure if Middlesbrough college has a student union
The facilities at Middlesbrough college are good it has everything you heed for your course.
Middlesbrough is a vibrant town with plenty of things to do.
The support offered is very good tutors are there to support you if you need it.
Really fun and interesting, some things I never thought I would and I’m excited to get all the awards and get closer to what I want to do. Class mates aren’t really people I’d hang around with usually but I’ve made a great bond with all of them and get excited to see them all.
Great! Always tell us about work placements and volunteer weekends which come up which will help us with our future!
Very good at delivering lessons for us all to understand which is what I like and I dislike having to go on expeditions in the cold weather, I’d rather summer.
I don’t have time to get involved.
Brilliant always clean!
Good shops all near by
Very good always there to help if needed
Excellent... stress full but isn’t everything?! Just enjoy the moment and take your time with every thing and try to balance free time with work time . Also socialising with others helps
My uni often organises work place ments and has a specific department just for careers and future employability. This department often sends out regular emails notifying us of job vacancies either in our area of expertise of within the local area . The also offer sessions on how to create job applications, cv writing and cover letter writing. Plus a few sessions on how to do well in an interview
I like that theres only a few people on my course so theres a lot more time for teachers to have regular 1to1 sessions and ensure we are achieving our goals I dont like the speed the sessions are taught at as its a little to fast
Ive never been as im unsure of what it is and how to use its facilities
Very good , the have all the latest software and hardware and often update it to the latest industry standard
Very good but im local so i knew it all already
Very good , but i feel they should make more people aware as i only know what support is offerd because ive asked
So far my university experience has been pleasant. I am not a fan of my main teacher and his lessons but I am happiest when I am able to complete my work and assignments without the computers breaking or with unneeded interruptions like the "live project". The start of the course started well due to the University taking us on trips to Birmingham to the EGX convention. However, they no longer put on trips. The start of the year also stated that assignments would be due with a few weeks between them but this has not been the case. This has stressed myself and others out due to teachers over-extending the assignment deadlines.
We have a lot of "live projects" which involve us working with outside companies. This allows us to build upon skills we already have and can also give us contacts for the future. We also have assignments which focus on developing our skills and how we can get jobs within the games industry.
I like how we don't have to sit in a lecture theatre for our lessons, it's all hands on. This is great when it comes to working on assignments for say 3D environments or 2D and 3D art. Another thing I like is how the teachers roam around the classroom making sure that we understand the assignment and they can have conversations with us about how to further improve on our skills. Personally, I'm not a fan of the live projects. These tend to interfere with assignments that we have been given and sometimes the teacher tries to merge them with the assignments when they don't sound anything like our brief.
At Middlesbrough College we don't have a students union for university as it is partnered with the open University. This means I am unable to get involved. Teesside University has a Students Union however our tutors have yet to say whether we are allowed to go there or not.
Our facilities for the course have its ups and downs. A lot of the time we have computers and software that works. However, the rest of the time the software crashes, the Internet goes down and the computers break. This usually happens when we've been given assignments which really messes with our deadlines. We only have one room which we have been told belongs to us so no other classes can use it. However, we have had some problems with other classes (mainly college courses) using our room when they don't need all the hardware and software in there. This makes working at the college extremely hard.
I enjoy the city life here in Middlesbrough. The college is quite close to the town and all the shops are accessible. This means a lot of equipment is easy to get and there are a lot of places to eat nearby. The nightlife is alright with some of the bars and night clubs being open around our university hours.
There are no clubs or societies at Middlesbrough College for university students so I wouldn't know.
It depends on the teacher we have. Two of them are great, especially with feedback. They walk around the classroom trying to help and it shows they really care. However, our main teacher seems to push his career path onto us and doesn't really show that he cares much for what we want to do in our futures. As for personal counselling, the college provides counselling from trained professionals that both work for the college and from an outside company. This service is amazing and has helped myself and others quite a lot.
Very enjoyable and extremely informative. The work load can sometimes get hectic if you are working a full time job, however it is more than doable and a very worthwhile addition to your education.
Tutors always strive to put concepts being learned into real life examples and applications. This has personally helped me in my place of work due to an improved knowledge of certain electrical components and devices.
I like the manner in which lessons are taught in that the tutors are approachable and will take time in order to make sure you do not get confused by new concepts. They also express a passion for their respective fields.
The engineering department has a good array of equipment that helps to bring learning concepts into reality. I particularly enjoyed the PLC module in first year.
The feedback given from all assignments is well structured and very fair. It can be easily used in order to improve my future work
Been hard at some points but also interesting. Ensure that you spend your time in lesson wisely as it will catch up with you in the end. Doing work in college is also easier because of the comfortable working environment.
