Amazing, challenging, interesting, difficult. I wouldn't stay out away from home again.
Very high Efforts- They have given overall in 3 years 30weeks + of placement so that as cardiac physiologists we can enter at a higher level
Its very hands on good for experience as well as face to face teaching. I feel like there should be a little more guidance in the first year as university is totally different to college and the content is a lot harder.
I have never personally used any of their facilities, I feel like theyre a bit lost,
very good. Labs are amaaaazing!!! Lectures and most seminars are captured/ recorded and accessible afterwards. There are even showers :@
Amazing, theres Sugden Sports center across the road, Manchester Aquatics even closer, soceities you have never heard off!
Amaazing. Teachers are sooo supportive. There are personal tutors and even programme support leaders. The care that the uni gives as a whole with facilities like counselling is amazing, but usually the tutors are soo supportive and approachable that you can go to them for anything
I've struggled with many mental health issues after the first year of my degree. The disability team at MMU have been very, very helpful in dealing with and understanding my circumstances. The disability team have absolutely benefited my quality of life at University. For one reason or another I haven't found it easy making friends and socialising with others. Perhaps some of this is down to my own temperament, but at the same time I believe the lack of societies and events by MMU have also played a part in this.
For Computer Science, a lot of what the course offers is highly applicable to the real working world. As well as having relevant courses, there's opportunities for student's to do a placement year with technology companies around the UK. The careers advice hub are open for students to drop-in and explore their options, improve their CV, or arrange a practice interview.
I sometimes question whether or not the structure of the Computer Science course is suitable for all students. The course has been taught in the expected University manner, where students will study from September - July producing assignments and taking exams. I feel the course could be improved for disabled students if the Computer Science course did not try to fit this traditional university time table. This schedule may work well for writing essays, but producing multiple high quality coding assignments can in the time scale that is provided has proven to be very hard.
The student union definitely provides activities and events for students. Now that I'm a third year student, I have noticed that there is a lot of repetition in the events that occur, so this could be improved on.
From my own experience, I wish I had better access to some of the specialist software necessary for assignments . A lot of the software/hardware is not yet widely available around the MMU library, which is highly inconvenient for a student like myself who prefers to take advantage of the library during quiet hours in the night. The John Dalton cafeteria has recently added a microwave for students to use at their will. I think many students have benefited from this, and I'd like them to add more facilities similar to this. I definitely think there could be more facilities such as a place for students to nap?
The university is essentially located in the heart of the city itself. With just a short walk from the city center, there are many amenities for students to make use of. For 1st year students, there's plenty of on campus accommodation, as well as accommodation a short walk away from campus.
There exists many varying societies. There's many sports societies students can dabble in, as well as creative societies, and try-something-new societies. I will say I have been disappointed with the lack of activities organised by the independent societies. This could absolutely be improved on.
The budget for personal services such as counselling has noticeably decreased recently. There aren't nearly as many therapists or counselors available as there are students who need access to these services. I've found it difficult on numerous occasions to meet with my tutors to get help on assignments and lab sessions. Problems such as these have undoubtedly taken a toll on my overall grade. If you are new to programming and want to Study at MMU, I would advice you to study somewhere else, based on my personal experience. I've also been unhappy with the feedback I've received on some of my assignments. The feedback provided is not helpful and does not allow me to understand why I received the grade I received.
So far, it has been really good here; the uni has a great support network (academic, personal, financial, etc.), and there are many interesting people around here.
Sometimes the things we learn seem to be below university level.
Yes, the uni is very central, you get everywhere real quick.
There are a lot of societies available here, however, I think it is classist that you have to pay a fee for them.
Really have enjoyed my time at university, you meet great people and get to experience lots of different things. I also thought the support which you receive is outstanding and there is always someone who is able to help with any inquiries that you may have.
The careers department are always emailing to help with any queries as well as sending out weekly job alerts for students.
I like that we have engaging lectures and tutorials as it really helps to understand the course, i also like when we do case studies as it really helps me to understand how they should be answered etc.
Students Union is excellent, i love that you can use your met card at the union especially since their is a Costa as well as a restaurant with great cheap food.
Yes the uni is in a good location, it is only a 10 minute walk from the city center, easy to drive too and park, although you do have to pay for parking with it being in the city center. There are also plenty of places to eat etc right next to the university and plenty of things to do such as cinema, bowling, golf.
Support is amazing at university, all staff members go over the top to help you and ensure that you are happy
It has been okay. A bit stressful but you learn many different skills and meet new people. You also learn new things and are given the opportunity to try new things out.
Many employability events and career fairs. Departments also hold their own events i.e 'meet the psychologist'.
The course is very informative however it is sometimes not very interactive.
Student union is very active and engaging. Offer many services such as an advice center.
Good. Have many study areas and computer areas. Library is decent and has been newly refurbished but can still get very busy. Lecture theaters are usually a decent size.
The university is centrally located to many amnesties.
Good offering of sports and societies. Many free activities that any one can take part in.
Quite good. Tutors have office hours where you can drop in, additionally you can schedule appointments. There is the student support team who can help with additional queries as well as several workshops that help with academic writing e.t.c. There are drop in counseling sessions and although the counselling wait time can be quite long, they see,m helpful. The uni has the student hub and advice center who can help with different issues like finance, attendance e.t.c
I have really loved coming to Manchester Metropolitan University. All the staff have been so welcoming and I've made lots of new friends considering I moved here from the south coast
Lots of workshops
Not on a taught course
Very good but I don't take part
I have been at MMU now for my undergrad as well as postgrad and would not have wanted it any other way 3.5 years of hard work and fun. The course work has been presented well and the assignment and exams well planned and spread out.
We have a proactive careers department, with loads of work placements to hand and with the extra curriculum award scheme transferable skills and cross-faculty courses are fantastic
Sometimes they seem to be a bit rushed and even unprepared at times but overall the staff are great and most of them will go out of there way to help with anything. They are very approachable!
We want for nothing at our Union, well being, counselling, coffee, shop, beer and food. What more does a student need !!
We have an excellent library with 5 floors with loads of different types of work areas from group, individual and quiet areas. All the labs and facilities are top of the range from sports, workouts, chill zones and workspaces
I commute from about twenty mails away and find it is well located in terms of the train station and if travelling by car.
Excellent, the technical groups are always up to date and push the boundaries and the hackathons have been pretty good as well
First-class, if you need any support being course work or personal issues MMU have your back. All the services are very popular and sometimes takes a while for an appointment though!
In general, it was a great experience, but challenging. My supervisors have helped me overcome the stress of a phd and have always been supportive to me. whenever I face a problem during my research I always find help from everyone.
They do a lot of workshops on those subjects , I have never attended one of them. But I will do very soon, as I have been busy working on my thesis
I wish we had more workshops to book in related to our topics specifically as phd students.
I think they are doing a great job, but as I have mentioned before, because of transport issues, I do not go so often to university, and therefore, I do not have the chance to use the union activities or attend there events.
our university is doing the best to provide for us all what we need. so far, I am very happy with everything.
No, It takes me a long time to arrive to university from where I live( Whitefield, Manchester) because there are no direct buses to Universities, I have always to take two buses that I consider one of the worst services as they come every 20 minutes unlike other services that come every 10 or 7 minutes, moreover, they are often late or cancelled?! I wish there have been a bus that comes more frequently in my area , or a bus that takes us directly to oxford street at least so we do not have to change buses to go there. Honestly, I avoid going to university a lot when I remember that half of my time will be spent in buses. So I prefer to stay at home and study better than wasting approximately 4 hours on buses.
I think its very sociable area and we do not feel as strangers between them. we also have easy access to gyms near us.
I have never tried counselling. But we always receive emails about the service and what it provides which I think is great in case I needed one in the future. When It comes to academic support I am very happy with my supervisors and with our officers when we need them.
I love it. It makes me feel welcome and appreciated, whilst on my undergraduate I have always felt like I was never good enough as the reputation of that given university was not on teaching and learning but on research. Also, I love it how MMU gives students work opportunities which help with personal and professional development as well as financially.
Many of the courses are MMU offer excellent placements and internships opportunities, which are great boosters to build excellent transferable skills to be used in future employment. Also, the careers service at MMU has a regular bulletin that reaches out to students with opportunities. Lastly, MMU offers the jobs4students programme, which is a great experience, as you may get to work with actual teams at the university such as for Open Days, you get paid as well as developing working skills.
I do enjoy the approachable methods that teaching staff have when delivering lessons as they try to reach to all students and support all abilities and backgrounds. I also enjoy the seminars as students are asked to build discussions and give their inputs, whilst being helped by the experienced academic staff. I would potentially increase more contact hours as it can be daunting for students to complete many hours of independent study.
The Students' Union has been relocated and refurbished in recent years and offers students a wide variety of services, from a bar and restaurant to a stage areas for shows and gigs, to a shop for stationery and essentials and Amazon lockers. I think they could perhaps improve the levels of activities and have more art-based ones or shows students could attend.
They are extremely good. Many of the buildings have been revamped and there is a great variety of facilities that cater for all needs.
MMU is placed at the heart of Manchester and it is within reach from various ways of transport. You can reach the Manchester Campus via multiple bus routes, overground trams and trains to Manchester Piccadilly or Manchester Oxford Road. This makes the commute from outer areas of Greater Manchester and beyond very easy.
MMU is equipped with a great Students' Union and this allows the promotion of extra-curricular activities such as sports groups and societies. A great advantage is the MMU Sport Community and the ability to practice sport at Sudgen Sports Centre within our campus.
Great and exhaustive both verbal and written feedback and great counselling/student support facilities and IT support opened all year round when necessary.
It is an excellent university with outstanding facilities and support system. MMU has great links with employers and the study prepare students for the employment world thought applying academic study in practise. I recommend anyone to study at MMU.
*the uni runs employability fairs, *The uni has close links to employers who come to uni to deliver seminars and provide advice, *the Employability team sends out job opportunities and helps with job applications, cover letters as well as preparation for interview or assessment centre *students can receive their help for 3 years after they finish study at MMU *employes students for work in offices, events, visits, mentoring and other opportunities *offers internship to MMU graduates
I love the academics attention I hate other students disturbing in seminars
provide an excellent service to all students, run superb activities and social events.
excellent computer rooms, 3d printer art studios have outstanding tools and resources health faculty has ward rooms for students to practice their medical treatments coffee places and food places are in all buildings
great location, close to everything
excellent, always helped me, especially when I needed help and support due to extensive health problems. I received great counselling and emotional support as well as extensions. Academics always provided constructive feedback that helped me to improve
