Our collection of real, honest student reviews of unis and courses is the largest in the UK, and helps you make well-informed decisions about your future. Student reviews also form the basis of our annual Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs), which highlight great work carried out by institutions for their students.
The best is the uni community, and I think the worst is maybe because I commute, it takes a while to walk from the train station.
The amount of online work is significantly more than tutor contact time
Campus is nice, has a lot of great facilities on it. Only improvement is more social spaces at headingly and also better food options that could be cheaper.
Their are some really good lecturers within my course who are very supportive and teach the modules well. Downside is their are some absolutely terrible lecturers im stuck with this year as they cannot seem to hire anyone else at the moment and have a staff shortage. For an example we have a module which the lecturer clearly couldn't be bothered to actually make any content themselves but used ai for all of it; they heavily scrutinise us for using it (which not to write out an assignment just to help understand what is being taught some have tho in the class) while actively using it to teach a module that requires them to input which they dont. We have complained but yet again due to lack of staffing they cant do anything. Also if you do complain the lecturer will actively act hostile towards you, or if you give good feedback which doesnt say they are bad but areas need to be improved then yet again you will be iced out for no reason. Over all staffing and how the staff take feedback needs to be massively overhauled and thoes that treat students this poorly shouldnt be teaching this course.
It was an amazing sized room, great bed and view. Maintenance staff and reception staff friendly and just overall lovely people, some should get paid more for what they do. Downsides their when I lived their last year was the cost was sky high for something another uni charges cheaper and not everything was functional, like hot water would just go out at random, heating would he random too and not keep the room warm enough.
Best - Love been so close to the centre of leeds and it has a great libary Worst - The university wifi never works
Mix of different types of learning
Good uni and in good location. Expensive.
Good content and nice pace. Only 2 in person days a week
Great location. Expensive.
Leeds Beckett is situated in a great location. Firstly city campus is situated around 10-15 minutes walk from the city centre meaning if you are in first year student halls this is very convenient as many of them are right in the city. Furthermore if you are at Headingley campus you able to hop on the free shuttle to the city centre or if your living in the Carnegie halls, then this is right on your doorstep. Otherwise you are 10 minutes walk from Headingley centre and around 20-25 minutes from Hyde Park which is where many 2nd year and 3rd year students live in student houses. Leeds Beckett has a variety of courses and a great selection of staff on each course, meaning you interact with different lecturers and leaders. Moreover, the societies and student events mean socialising is encouraged and can lead you to make unforgettable memories and lifelong friends. I would say this is probably the best uni for someone to attend due to the close knit community that is created by Leeds Beckett and its location as it is an easy city to find your way round and it very quickly becomes a home away from home that you will be sad to leave.
I think that this course is extremely useful for someone wanting to dip into the world of fashion and marketing as it provides you with the necessary skills and knowledge to do so. However, the course does lack on the in person teaching on specific programmes such as adobe as I didn't feel there was enough focus on each programme in detail. There is also a lot of technical skills involved in this course so many students did struggle with keeping up with students who had previously used cameras and adobe programmes before. The course is all taught in person and there are no online lectures which is good as it encourages students to get up and on with their day and interact with others in person rather than avoiding picking up their laptop to view their online lecture via Teams. All of the lecturers are extremely helpful in aiding learning and all have encouraged 1-1 appointments if students need additional help. This course is not useful to someone not interested in the fashion industry who just wants marketing skills as they should select to study ba hons marketing.
These uni halls are amazing for the facilities as the rooms are all neat and clean with en suite bathrooms and minimal decor allowing students to completely tailor their room to themselves. The kitchens are open plan and are a good size with a tv, sofa and plenty of cupboard space. The majority of the flats are 4 person flats which can be difficult for making friends as you are limited to meeting a small number of people and I do think that it is better to be in a flat with around 6 people in order to maximise the amount of people you can get to know in the beginning. However upon applying for this accommodation I was able to select who I wanted to be in a flat with by reading personal bios that students had already selected their flat's had written. This way you can see if there are students on your course who were in these flats or students with similar interests to you. This accommodation is around 20 minutes walk to the city and around 30 minutes walk from the city campus meaning it is further than other accommodations but still accessible. However, there is also a bus stop right outside taking you to both Headingley campus and the city centre by city campus which is around 10 minutes. Marsden has a false repuation for being loud and 'wild', however I did not have this experience and anyone I know who lived here loved their experience. The safety provided with two security officers day and night means you can be assured no one without their key can get into the accommodation and if needed the security can quickly access the halls. There is also around 4 staff members at the desk throughout the day keeping postage safe and providing you with any information you may need. The washing machines are in a room in the courtyard are easy to use and are all accessed via an app.
It’s amazing at Leeds Beckett University. The staff are all lovely and are always there when you need them. Learning wise, everyone is so helpful and very understanding. I am so glad I decided to do my further education with Leeds Beckett University.
So far my course has been amazing. The teachers are very helpful and always ensure you understand the work. The work load is a lot i wont lie but its not too much and you can balance your social and work life.
on rainy days it can be difficult but its not too far of a walk.
I love how close it is to Uni and how it gets clean frequently. The staff are amazing and are always up to enquire any questions. There is no worst parts i have experienced so far.
Leeds Beckett University is best place for students
It’s a good course for future career
I have loved the last 4 months of uni. All of my course is based on the Leeds Beckett Headingley campus, along with my accommodation also being on campus. Headingley is a beautiful campus to study and live on, its facilities for studying and for sports are incredible. all staff are friendly and go the extra mile to ensure you are okay. leeds Beckett always has different things to get involved with. furthermore I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a city to study in to choose leeds, its so student friendly with a range of coffee shops, shops, night life and scenic walks. the only two things that I believe could be improved is a bus running from campus into the city and back 24 hours especially on a Wednesday when everyone goes out because taxis can be expensive and you have to wait ages for one when its busy. and a food shop on campus for necessity's
The course is amazing I love it, however I believe that the contact hours aren't great, although I am lucky that all my lectures are in person there are a lot of people in them which feels like you get very little contact time.
I live in swale which are cluster flats, I live with 12 people which I love. I have had no issues with my room, however the wifi isn't always great. but I couldn't of chosen a better place to live in first year, all the staff are amazing and go the extra mile to build relationships with you, which makes it feel that bit more like home, I always feel safe on campus. we always have kitchen inspections every week which helps when the kitchen does get abit messy because the flat has to come together to clean. I love living in Headingley away from the chaos of city but still having that option to go out in leeds.
I study online so can't comment on many of these things - however the access to support is very good.
The course has been excellent so far, with online meetings and guest speakers. The reading can be overwhelming though as it is on top of a full time job.
Facilities for students are great, along with the different amount of opportunities available. One thing that could be improved is careers team could be a bit more helpful, in the aspect of helping with the future with students with learning disabilities
Right amount of contact time, only that with one module with the lecture and seminar being part of one big lesson, I would find it better as just a seminar group that mixing both together as feel I struggle to get much from it
Area is great as on campus, WiFi was a little rubbish as it use to kick me off most of the time. Property management was up and down, as somethings weren’t always taken care of properly, for example tv in accommodation when moved in didnt work so mentioned it to them they had a look said they had fixed but still didnt work. Then in the spring/summer weather was really warm, accommodation was really warm, realised our radiators where still on so mentioned to them about and asked if they could switch them off as the heat of the accommodation was becoming unbearable. They said they would sort it and never did. Apart from that they were polite and lovely.
Other students also liked these unis - you might too!
WIFI is absolutely awful and there are many dead zones around campus. How can a top-level engineering university provide such poor internet connection, especially when all of our a...
