I think it's a great place to study because the facilities and other students are great, and also are some of the staff. I think the student well-being is just a tick box and the actual university doesn't actually care about the students. The location is great and I really like being able to eat by the river every day, and also the studios are kept very clean and tidy, apart from all our things obviously. The price of printing keeps going up, and I heard recently from a friend that printing used to be free, which makes me think why do university fees keep rising.
I think this year has been way better than last year, and that of course is down to coronavirus, however this year I think could still be better, a tutor usually would be available most of the time, however, one of the strands has been removed which a lot of students wanted to be part of because the tutor left, and she wasn't replaced with a likeminded tutor, and therefore the strand has been removed.
Library!! Access and modern feeling of library is a huge help in my studies! Kingston library provides everything you need for the studies, as well the space and fact that there rae 4 different buildings with library is amazing!! I can always find quiet place to study! With great staff support and equipment! New library in the main campus is breathtaking!!! Kingston university could improve in terms of more extra mini courses, for example it would be great to study different language for few months and then receive some type of diploma at the end. Or study music as an extra to your studies for 6 months, they could do it with all creative subjects. Such as fashion, design, art, drawing, writing, drama and music. I would love to learn to play music instrument without necessary studying as a whole degree, the same as fashion, it would be great to expand skills in designing clothes without having to do whole degree. More of an extra mini study where at the end you get some type of small certificate. It could be charged small fee that wouldn’t be too much for students, I believe it would be great opportunity to develop your hobbies.
Some of the teachers could be tiny bit more helpful
It is great for students many work opportunities! Great night life, shopping, lots of tiny restaurants and cafés, it is great place for students! Could be tiny bit more safer especially for a women, but anywhere in London is not the safest:(
It was great halls, I stayed in Kingston Hill Halls during pandemic and it was really good! It is situated in very green area which was huge advantage for my mental health as I could leave my halls and stay on the grass without worrying of getting Covid
I really love the ease I have to move within the campuses. Free university buses are also a bonus. Libraries are found pretty much in every campus and if not there is always a place where you can study in peace.
Best aspects I can say with conviction, are the laboratories and the vast majority of equipment within the campus, I’m really glad that we can also use it ourselves, but of course by booking.
I really love the population and that there are many students. It makes it easy to do more activities and be more outgoing.
My course is really interactive as it is a smaller class and the lecturers are really friendly and easy to talk to. It wasn’t a massive change from college to uni, making it a smooth transition. The uni itself is kitted out with amazing equipment too. I can’t think of much it could improve on... maybe cheaper food in the canteen.
The best part is the lecturers. They’re all so lovely and approachable with actual industry experience and knowledge. For journalism it is very practical and you are kind of forced (in a good way) to get out talking to people and interviewing them. Media is practical too as you’d imagine. We are taught in person as covid has lifted. We are a small class so we aren’t in lecture halls, just a normal looking classroom. I can’t be sure, but I think the class sizes are around 40 people for this course. When you email the lecturers they always respond quickly in my experience, even if they’re part-time and not working when you email them they’re always available to help.
It’s a great town to live in. It has a bit shopping centre and many restaurants, pubs, etc. There are a few clubs in the area too. But the best part about Kingston is the travel links to central London.
I've felt comfortable starting at and studying at the university. There is a large variety of activities offered, via email and posters around the campus. I don't think it could be improved in any way because it is a fabulous way. I am lucky and thankful to study at this university
Blended learning, and can contact staff easily with quick responses. Both online and in-class for students who are not able to attend lectures. Course hours are good for me, but a 1-hour online lecture is difficult is I've been working all day.
Atmosphere with trees and flowers gives the university a fresh feel and I feel happy entering the campus.
Lecturers are really passionate and everyone is really grounded and friendly. The location is great, you have everything you need but London is also 25 minutes away. It is very multicultural so I have met people from all over the world. Overall I have really enjoyed my time here (so much that I did my degree here and then I ended up staying to do my Masters). Perhaps there could be more cultural events taking place
As I previously mentioned, lecturers are very friendly and open, they never make you feel stupid for asking question and some are really inspiring. However, some lecturers are great at replying, other never reply to you. I know that they often say that they should reply in a couple of days, but I think this should really be enforced, as there are emails from 2 years ago that still waiting for a reply.
Very well connected. 25 minutes away from London. I feel extremely safe here! and we have everything we need
The uni seems well run and are fast to reply when I have an issue. The area is nice - it’s London but rural, making it easier to adjust when moving. The only issue is that there is no tube station in Kingston making travel into central London expensive and time consuming. I also had an issue with my accommodation that has had a significant effect on my time at uni. I was put in a hotel at first, then was moved onto a campus that I originally did not apply for, making travel difficult. They also moved me into a flat that already had people living there so friendships had already been established so I don’t feel fully comfortable in my flat.
Most of my lecturers are friendly and approachable. I have a day off so the course hours are very manageable. My only issue is that due to my disability, I find online learning much better than in-class learning. My course has blended learning which I know probably is best for the majority of students, but it has caused me to fall greatly behind as my attendance to in person lectures is low.
The worst part is the lack of a tube station. However, Kingston is very pretty and there is lots of shopping.
I was put in a hotel instead of the Halls at Penrhyn Road I was allocated, and then made to live at Chancellors which makes travel to my campus much more difficult, and I have not been able to attend any lectures since I moved. It’s also been hard to make friends with my flatmates as they already know each other so well. However, the rooms themselves have been newly refurbished so they are modern and there is an en-suite bathroom in each room.
Good location, close to town Approachable staff willing to help you Great facilities: gym, child care, amazing library/study space, faith and spirituality Centre, and more Lots of different clubs and groups to join
Blended learning is great Lecturers reply fast
The diversity is the best part of Kingston University. My favourite place to study and chill is the Penhryn Road Town House Library which is open 24 hours during the weekend. Also, the events that happen here are the best. Students have a lot of opportunities to work part time. The only issue I found is that although Kingston University is a very reputed name, the university doesn't provide much job-search support apart from CV review and interview tips. They need to try and bring more companies for on-campus placements. Overall, I'd give my University a 4 star for it's plus points.
The course outline was a bit confusing and repetitive of what we studied in Bachelor's degree. I feel Mechanical Engineering has alot of potential and certain subject areas like 3D printing and Management can be enhanced to give better future scope for students to excel in those fields. The best part was the focus on ANSYS CFX & Siemens NX tutorials. Also the university offered it's students a chance to achieve Solidworks Certifications for free.
Kingston is one of the most popular and happening place in South West London. It is calm yet quite playful town. It is full of students who are from different ethnic backgrounds and are also from different institutions like Kingston University, Kingston College, St. Mary's college, etc. The city centre offers alot of food places to enjoy for students and also the marketplace gives the opportunity to taste some delicious authentic cuisines and organic groceries. The Bentalls Shopping centre has the best collection for shopping lovers. Students can easily get into part time jobs that pay between £9-£12 an hour. People here are quite nice as well and give you the feel of proper British Culture. Pryzm is one of the biggest students' attraction, being one of the only big night clubs in Kingston. There are lots of student nights to enjoy here with discounts.
The lecturers are really approachable and so knowledgeable. It is a pleasure to receive lecture from them. Sometimes I get a little lost in the main building when I am looking for a lecturer or a room.
I love the laboratory works. There are so good lab instruments to work on and the staff are always very helpful and supportive. I would love to have more industrial experience during course work.
It is a buzzing place where you can find anything you need. Sometimes it gets a little too busy.
