Great University, lovely supportive people to surround yourself with.
Different to how it was advertised, however it has opened my mind to new styles of dance and how to embrace the feeling.
Great to be next to the train station, not great WiFi and no service.
Falmouth University, while perhaps lacking in the way of clubs for some students, entirely makes up for it with its proximity to beautiful beaches, coastal walks and natural beauty. The town of Falmouth is quaint yet vibrant and is undoubtedly the top choice if you’re looking into a creative course - Falmouth’s bustling town, filled with galleries and artisan shops, will inspire you if nothing else will! I don’t regret my move to Falmouth for a second and the people that I have found here are beyond gorgeous additions to my life!
The teaching style at Falmouth university is completely different to GCSEs and A Levels alike. You are afford complete freedom to use the vast range of workshops as you see fit. Ranging from woodwork to fine metal jewellery making, the workshops are a fab way to develop your artistic practice. The hands off teaching style does take some adjusting to though.
My opinion on the university halls that I have lived in is a mixed bag. On the one hand, the location is fantastic, close to the beach, close to many bus stops and train stations, as well as a brilliant central hub for new students - making fresher’s week especially very fun. But on the other hand, laundry is quite expensive here, and you really have to pick the right time to catch an empty machine. As well as this there have been issues with the plumbing in many showers meaning that they can clog up and flood very easily - but having said this, there is a quick and friendly response team who will repair any issues very quickly. Glasney Lodge as well is a helpful resource to students who might need support, and all post is delivered to the Lodge.
Falmouth University is a great university, and has incredible facilities and creates a professional atmosphere in order to prepare us for the industry we intend to go into. The surrounding area is beautiful, with lots of picturesque hills and views, as well as the beautiful beaches and docks. I definitely recommend this university
My course is brilliant and prepares us well for the industry we want to go into. The Games Academy is big and has top end PCs and game dev software and even 3D printers!
I like that my room is reasonably big and has a double bed, and as university dorms go, it’s not the most expensive but it still isn’t the cheapest in the world. I do think that the management of the accommodation team could be a bit better, as our kitchen looks neglected in places, for example the kitchen cupboards have water damange on them, and the floorboards are loud (even though I’m on the ground floor). However overall, it is nice and I would recommend coming here
Falmouth University is situated in a great location. With a wide range of courses and plenty of support, Falmouth is a great University and I can't recommend it enough!
This course is curated with the real world in mind and prepares us for the working world with practical and applicable modules.
Falmouth is an amazing university, the classes are of a great size to allow for great collaboration but you have personal time with the tutors to work on projects and expand your understanding of the subject. We have a great range of studio time, visiting lectures from practicing experts and range of technical workshops. The campus itself is very intimate and all services are very close by while also being situated in sub-tropical gardens which makes moving around the campus a lovely experience. Overall my experience with Falmouth university has been fantastic and I look forward to the next years of my studying here and further studies.
We have a wide range of learning opportunities, we have studio tutorial and skills sessions, digital learning workshops, lectures and seminars as well as workshops in the woodworking, metalworking, casting, printwork and other technical facilities to give a well rounded learning experience. All our course staff are practicing architects and have active industry knowledge.
The university is generally a positive and encouraging space, being set in the heart of Cornish game development. The modules definitely suffer from arbitrary changes that confuse students and require further clarification after the fact, but overall the learning experience is positive.
The teamworking encouraged a self-taught experience with guidance from lecturers that gave us all a very thorough experience of working in a games studio.
Black mould would accumulate quickly, and the plumbing was fickle at best.
Falmouth is such a beautiful town, with a great balance between academic and social life. With it being a small town, you wouldn't think there is much going on, but there are so many events on all the time! All staff and students I have spoken too have been lovely, the energy here is just so so positive. To improve, I feel like accommodation in halls has been quite difficult. I've had to live in Penryn so that I could have a studio, as the only studio option in Falmouth was way too expensive. The other options in Falmouth Town weren't great either, being too expensive for what they were. I've found that the accommodation in Penryn is better, but not the most accessible seeing as my course is in Falmouth, especially as the buses aren't the most reliable.
Since September, I have only had one online class - the rest have been in-person, allowing for a much more interactive course. The tutors are always available for support, and I've found the 1-1 tutorials with them incredibly helpful. The hours spent in class also changes each week, some weeks we are in much more than others. I find this works really well as we get given time to catch up on work. However, I do feel like there are some times in class that are unnecessary. This is when we are shown a PowerPoint about different artists for up to an hour; I think these types of presentations are something we could look through ourselves.
I've got a studio in Packsaddle for my own accessibility needs, so naturally I would be paying more. However, it takes my entire student loan just to pay, so I've had to live entirely off my savings. I also have the extra expense of taking the bus to get to Falmouth campus, which is also not the most reliable. In the last few weeks, I've been disconnected from the internet and had power cuts, so I've had to rely on data. Packsaddle Hill is a very nice-looking and clean accommodation, but I would have personally preferred to live somewhere closer to my own campus.
Falmouth University is an incredible place to study, especially for robotics enthusiasts like myself. The supportive community, passionate faculty, and great peers create an inspiring environment for learning and collaboration. The university offers a variety of societies, which makes it easy to connect with others and explore new interests. With a focus on hands-on learning and state-of-the-art facilities, it’s perfect for diving deep into robotics while enjoying the stunning coastal town.
The best aspect of my course is the hands-on approach to learning, with plenty of lab time and opportunities for experimentation. The lectures are engaging, and the focus on practical application allows us to dive deep into real-world problems. The contact with lecturers is fantastic – they’re approachable, knowledgeable, and always willing to provide guidance and support. The balance between in-class learning and lab work creates a great environment for both theoretical understanding and practical skills. Expanding lab facilities or offering more advanced equipment could elevate the learning experience even further. Overall, the course provides a solid foundation for my field and fosters a strong sense of practical learning.
Amazing lecturers. Attracts the most amazing people - like-minded and creative. A slow pace of life. Would have liked more contact hours and more inductions on equipment/facilities.
Not many contact hours, too much independent study.
Amazing. But super expensive.
I believe Falmouth provides a uni experience like no other in the country. The culture of living by the sea is so ingrained into the life here - I was able to try new things and see new sides of England that I never otherwise would have! The university also provides great support for mental health and the staff at the lodge and at the compass desk are always very welcoming and helpful. Tutors are also passionate and very involved with students. However, I believe the uni’s on campus food both at the stannery and in the shop can be quite expensive. There are some steals like the £2 pots and £2.50 toastie from the sustainability cafe! But other than that it can be hard to get a healthy and filling meal in without paying £6+ on lunch. For my course (fashion marketing) I believe we have all the resources and support we need. However I have heard lots of textiles students expressing they feel that their course is heavily underfunded and lacks the resources they need.
I personally really enjoyed my course. I found the course content to be very varied, allowing us to get insight into all the different aspects of fashion marketing. We got to collaborate with other courses and get a feel for working in a team as well as having solo projects. The tutors are very knowledgeable and experienced and they got to know each of us very well since we had so much contact time over the 3 years, meaning they would always tailor their help and advice to us individually so that we can work to our strengths.
I loved the community feel at Glasney and the beautiful campus it’s on. However the location was slightly in convenient for things like supermarkets and going into town. But it was nice to live on campus in the first year anyway. Much of the property had issues like leaking fridges, poorly flushing toilets, loud banging doors, easily blocked shower.

I hope the university may give more support to Chinese students and the model of the course should be changed for spring semester
