Acting for Screen - BA (Hons)

University rating (5)

Choosing Central Film school in Clapham North London, is one of the best choices I have made. When I applied, and got excepted I wasn’t originally imagining that it would be as great as it is. Studying the acting for screen BA has increased my understanding and interest in the film and television industry so much. The courses involve everything you need to know about screen acting, everything from actually acting to everything you need to know before coming on set annd understanding how to work with a script professionally. The teachers take such good care of us and are always doing their best to help us be our best at what we do. As a student living in central London it is quite expensive. However, with the amount of days we are physically in school, they make it possible to have a part time job on the side. This has helped me and many of my classmates being capable to live and survive life in London comfortably. When it comes to accommodating for the international students like myself, I genuinely feel like they acknowledge the difficulties I might experience. The teachers are so nice and supportive and I really enjoy all my classes with them. As for improvements, I think that they could be better at making the criteria and guidelines for our final productions for our different modules. Not to say that they aren’t already doing this, but that is the only thing I have been having some trouble understanding. Ultimately, Central Film school has been so accommodating, educational and fun. I am so happy I ended up here and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more and feel prepared to go into acting for screen.

The intimate, smaller groups definitely allow you to get a better view and understanding of the subject matter and the industry professionals that get bought in to help are brilliant. The course is also good but what I would say to anyone looking at the acting course is that, while the course itself is brilliant and you will absolutely take a lot of important lessons away from it, don’t expect a whole lot more offered outside of that, specifically to the acting side. All of the other events, talks and masterclasses whilst I have been here have been, whilst intriguing, educational, engaging and useful to expand your knowledge of a film set and more of the production side of things, entirely aimed at the filmmaking students. It also can feel at times that filmmakers and screenwriters get more priority in a lot of ways like locations on campus for assessments and equipment availability. That said, the course alone, the teaching style with the professionals bought in make it absolutely worth your consideration.

The sense of community in the building is top notch, the staff are very pleasant and some very sociable. The attractive building and agreeable staff/students make it an extremely enjoyable place to work and hang out. The only negative I can muster up so far, is the fairly random seeming first module, students are doing roles that they don’t understand due to not being taught what they do, and rules for the production seem messy and not completely thought through.

Practical Filmmaking - BA (Hons)

In terms of film schools you won't get a best value of experience anywhere else in the country. The location is as central to London you can get for a film school in the UK and the practicality and affordability of course make it a no brainer if your looking to study film. The other prestigious film schools of London are very quickly losing ground to cfs' courses and having moved into its Landor Road location it now has the facilities to rival everywhere else. Although it is small and young do not get it wrong in terms of post 18 Central Film School is the place to be.
