Our collection of real, honest student reviews of unis and courses is the largest in the UK, and helps you make well-informed decisions about your future. New CSL is good for studying, plugs don't always work and it gets busy very quickly.
Good rapport with all the professors and lecturers we interact with, all super friendly and supportive.
Next to the park, but far from town.
The price of living is now the worst thing
Worst part is that some bits are slow, but to no fault of the lectures, just the nature of some content Best part is that lectures don’t start until 10
The washing machines and location weren’t great, I liked the location of you don’t need to go into uni at all as it’s so far
Cardiff uni is so inclusive - there's so many different societies on offer and opportunities to get more involved with the individual schools. I always feel very welcome and greeted kindly when joining a new society. The lecturers are smart and professional, but know when a laugh is needed and how to make it happen. They are super friendly and approachable, I never worry about speaking to them in person or emailing them my concerns. I think the university buildings themselves are beautiful and kept so clean - just incredibly well-looked after, especially the centre for student life. it looks so majestic, it makes me want to study! I do think the Heath campus isn't as aesthetically pleasing to the eye, which is a shame because I'm there everyday and have never been in the city centre for lectures. I understand it's a literal hospital in which we go to lectures (and the lecture theatres are all actually lovely) but I do get jealous that my buildings don't feel so regal and important like the others get to experience.
I really enjoy the course, it's right up my street and I find it mega interesting. I'm currently on placement and find the constant travelling very tiring but I do understand that we're expected to travel and the uni will make it as easy for us as possible (e.g. travel reimbursements, accommodation if required). The lecturers provide engaging content and even when it's a bit dull they acknowledge this and use humour to get us through! I have only met my tutor once, at the beginning of first semester but I've emailed her many times and always get a prompt response, she's very helpful and I appreciate her advice and reassurance. I am so excited to graduate, there are many different areas in which I can go and work and my lecturers/mentors while on placement have provided lots of useful insight and tips for the industry. The only negative thing I have to say about the uni is the health library, I am still a bit confused about how to get the best use out of it and I don't understand why there are so few books there. I don't know why I'm expected to travel just under an hour to another library to pick up a book if it isn't in the health library and/or the online version isn't available - it's a waste of time. there are lots of different seating arrangements though and I appreciate the designated silent study and quiet study spaces.
The cost of living in Cardiff can be tricky but I think that's the same wherever you go in the UK nowadays. There are cheap alternatives for students and the occasional student discounts/perks which come in handy. I think the public transport is great for the amount of people they're catering to but sometimes buses don't show up or they actually leave too early and that gets frustrating. I don't know much about graduate employment opportunities but I know there are plenty available and lots of people to ask for advice within the university. I always feel safe in Cardiff, I feel very privileged as I know this isn't always the case and to have got this far into the year without feeling unsafe is kind of surprising. I have a part-time job which was relatively easy to obtain through the university, it fits around my studies and it's a helpful bit of income each week. Cardiff is the most diverse place I have ever lived and I am thoroughly enjoying being introduced to new cultures and cuisines.
Clodien House is a private accommodation but it's closely affiliated with the university, it's run by Unite Students. I find the location to be very convenient - it's an 8 minute walk from the hospital and a 5 minute walk from the general Heath campus which is where I am always based. I got the room I asked for which was particularly brilliant considering I applied through clearing and expected to get the last of the litter. I feel very safe in Clodien, it's a gated community and you have to use a key card to get both in and out of the gates. They keep the road gates closed and don't allow drivers in unless they're a resident or will only be in for 30 minutes. I've never had a problem with the wifi since I moved in, and the property is well cared for. There always seem to be a third party contractor onsite but they never bother or interfere with the residents which everyone appreciates. There are frequent bus routes into the city centre but I always have to walk about 10 minutes to the nearest bus stop which can be annoying. It's a 30-40 min walk to the Centre for Student Life or the train station which can also suck. I don't think Clodien is worth the amount I'm paying; I'm in a studio and paying £209 weekly, but considering the amount of time I've gone without a working lift, working washing machines or hot water (and had no reimbursements) I wouldn't exactly recommend it.
Cardiff University is provides really good student support. They make it really clear on who to contact if you feel as though you are requiring support. The Heath Park campus would benefit from having more student events such as any poster sales etc as it's a long way from the SU in Cathays.
The course is taught really well and all staff and students are very supportive. There is a good balance of in-person teaching and self-directed study time to ensure that we can stay on top of work. The course is great to prepare students for their careers and the practice placements are particularly beneficial for this.
There are so many places available to study in. The heath campus (healthcare) can sometimes feel as if you are divided from the other subjects however the facilities provided there means that it is still social and plenty of places to work. Would be useful if there was a university bus service between the two campuses or if there is already, awareness of such would be useful.
So many contact hours and great use of dissection in anatomy.
Talybont south is very social and has a gym and workspaces. You do get what you pay for which is fair enough. Silverfish are annoying but maintenance do respond to complaints but think they should have a permanent attempt to rid the flats of silverfish as it has been a problem for years. A sofa would be great if possible as not much space in the flat to chill and hang out.
Lovely people and place, but could have some more places to study as uni facilities get quite packed at exam times
Really good course and content, could have a slight bit more guidance with placement
Not bad but very small with lack of facilities, no Common room
Very happy at Cardiff
More contact hours could be an improvement
Clean and warm but basic
Really great student life and lots of things to do. Could be improved with some of the first year accommodation not being so great
Would prefer to have more choice in modules but all taught in class. Quite a lot of hours but it is engineering and quite tough too
Probably the worst one in Cardiff. Location is great but it lacks a lot in other ways
Amazing Centre for Student Life. Lots of study space and places that are open even on the weekends to study.
Interesting content. Lecturers could sometimes be better as they sometimes just read the slides out. Overall, modules are really interesting though.
Well heated. Modern. Maintenance really good. Security really good.
GREAT PLACE really close to the center of town good night and day life computing facilities are really new great student union for help and social activities academic teaching is great the fact their doing more coursework than written exams that you'll forget immediately IMPROVEMENTS less online classes more in person lectures other lecture theaters e.g. law needs charging ports
blended learning but this term is more recordings than in-person contact hours the course content is good to teach you the fundamentals and it is more practical practice than exam based which is better for industry the building is 2 years old so all the facilities are really great and there is loads of study places lectures respond to emails quickly and are very helpful
Shared bathroom but very very spacious and 10 mins from uni 20 mins from city center The heating is always on and sometimes a little too hot. WiFi box in every room that you can connect to with Ethernet. there have been power cuts but they were sorted within hours. Circuit laundry facilities are downstairs.

Other students also liked these unis - you might too!
All the teachers here are very helpful and make all the resources that we need available but sometimes in lectures they will speed through the powerpoints and not explain the infor...
Very supportive and very good course structure. There isn't many trips or extra stuff to do with the course and some of the buildings are not the nicest.
