I would also like to leave feedback on the actual course. I felt it was very unorganised, for example last minute exams. We would also get told to study for an exam and it would be a complete different one on the day. I also feel the treatments are very outdated and the kits that are recommended are of very poor quality and very expensive. Don't waste your time if your serious about going into the beauty industry.
I enjoyed the pop up shop and clients coming in for treatments. As stated above i feel a lot of the treatments are very outdated, and the course should be reviewed to keep up with industry standards.
My tutor makes Bridgend a great place to study. The facilities I need are good and there's a good age range of students. For me, there's nothing that I would improve. It has everything I need.
In-class learning is amazing there is a buzz in the classroom that I've never had in a class. My lecturer is the best there is, her teaching skills are over and above anyone I've been taught by, I would never have come as far as I have without her. Her work ethic is just the best she will reply to messages, if not immediately then within the hour.
Bridgend College-Queens Road Campus. Rooms could be updated, some rooms have no windows, some have poor wifi. Gave 1 star for student life and student union, but I have no experience of these areas. Cramped room when full group present. Limited but satisfactory student support service on this campus.
Bridgend. College-Queens Road campus. The course content has been limited over the two years. There is a focus on preparing for the assessments, but I would have like more theoretical content and direction. Generally the teaching quality has been good, although a change to the teaching team in year 2 meant that the quality went down, I gave 3.5 out of 5 on average. There have been several absences of teacher contact time over the 2 years (some due to covid/personal circumstances) which in an ideal world could have been better. Hybrid teaching has been ok, but affected the student and teacher interactions that F2F offer. My work placement has been satisfactory, very little support. The subject facilities on this campus are limited, although the library staff have been very helpful. I am hoping for an improvement in my career prospects.
Great staff and a fabulous atmosphere. Forward thinking approach to development meaning we can anticipate facilities to advance with our studies into the future. The new STEAM academy in Pencoed is fantastic and shows just how progressive the college is. Focused on innovation! The staff are fantastic and you get such a fabulous experience during your studies. Encouraging and supportive. Highly recommended.
All in-class delivery. Delivered with enthusiasm in a supportive manner. Google Classroom makes it easy to follow requirements, keep up to date with announcements and hand in work. Course content is intense - but the part time nature means it has to be. Lecturers always on hand should they be needed for help and advice.
the mature environment and freedom to study at your own pace, with access to facilities in spare time to help study.
the best advice and help from my tutors in the college, they make me feel comfortable and accessible if in need of help.
The lecturers are really knowledgeable and approachable. They have the right people on the course and students all get on well. The classroom is always clean and tidy there is a cafe and vending machines. The college doing free breakfasts for students every weekday morning shows they care about nutrition and the well being of the students. The building on the inside looks well maintained. The technology in class works well. The only thing I would improve the ability to connect to the wifi, I do find it difficult to connect my laptop or tablet to the wifi. The library and the availability of computers to use during the opening hours is really good and enables students to use them especially if they do not possess their own tech devices. I would welcome anyone who is interested in teaching further education to go to bridgend college. It's such an enjoyable experience and will benefit you massively if that is the vocation you choose.
Certain parts can be taught online such as the theory into teaching and the techniques but putting these into practice has to be done on a face to face basis. The lecturers are extremely knowledgeable and flexible with personal circumstances.
The tutors were amazing I had great support during this time at Bridgend College. I would have liked more face to face study but that's mainly because of covid and the restrictions xx
Tutors were always avaliable even when we were online learning . I don't work as well at home learning my studies were affected by this and my concentration was not 100 % . While being in lesson we all worked well together we were all able to bounce ideas off one another and provided support for each other during our studies. On line we created Google meets to interact together as support for our learning . The tutor s always provided us with plenty of digital literacies to guide us through our learning. I personally like a copy in my hand instead of reading on line so would find it beneficial to print of copy's of anything I would need to read.
I study in a brand new building, opened in August 2021 with state of the art facilities. The CourseI am studying is run over two years and will finish in April 2022. I have studied since I was in school and literally completed hundreds of courses through my life (I'm 60 in November). I have completed an Open University degree (B.Sc. 2010) and many forensics computing courses. Never once have I had such support in a course as I have with this current one. The Lecturer's cannot do enough to encourage you to do well. They are so supportive it will be a shame to finish it as I will miss their happy input to our Class every week. The classes are varied, interesting and I've always felt compelled to attend as I didn't want to miss out on any input. Da iawn!!!
Work placements are not applicable to me as I work full time in education. Due to Covid problems, a significant part of the course was blended learning which I thought helped as it gave an insight as both a student and a teacher.
The way I've always described studying at the Pencoed campus of Bridgend college is 'It's like Hogwarts but for people that love plants'. The learning facilities are really dynamic and is just what I was looking for in terms of mental nourishment after being out of education for almost a decade. The course itself is super inspiring and led by a team of amazing tutors with an absolute wealth of invaluable knowledge that only makes me feel privileged to be a part of. My class is small which is helpful for having more one-on-one time with tutors and also my classmates are really intelligent, hardworking and fun people that are great to be around; I can only aspire to be more like them. There is so much to learn from them, they are all amazing at giving advice on how to get into the industry and I've had lots of tips off them with regards to attending interviews to become an apprentice gardener for my local council (I have an interview this Wednesday, fingers crossed!). The main struggles I have with this course are mostly personal reasons. Since starting this course I have realised that I have certain learning difficulties which has led me onto the path of being on the very long waiting list for an ADHD assessment. Sometimes I find the coursework structure can be a little difficult to sustain because long-term projects are not my strongest points. At times the stress and the pressure of the course will make me a bit too overwhelmed, also my confidence is quite low so it's not the greatest combination for success but I have to remind myself of how far I've come as a person, how inspired I am in so many different areas of Horticulture, how much I've learned so far and how my passion for nature and to learn as much as I can is a driving force in itself. This course has led me onto the best trajectory of my life so far and I'm just determined to go further and hope to stay in education for as long as I can; there is just so much knowledge to gain and I love being a part of learning process. It' really helping me to gain the focus and the confidence I need to thrive in life. I'd encourage anyone and everyone to start studying towards a qualification that they are passionate about because education is so much more than just having a qualification at the end, the personal development, mental discipline and focus studying can provide is immeasurable and invaluable.
My course is part-time, only one day a week so sometimes it feels like a bit of a rush to be able to fit in everything we need to know to for our coursework and sometimes it's a shame not to see the development of the plants we care for and the seeds we sow. I'd love to be in college all day everyday but obviously can't because I need to work to fund my life and my course. For one of my modules we have to find a volunteer placement and I've found that rather difficult to fit around my working week and life in general. Especially sometimes the commute to a suitable placement can be up to 4 hours for me and is just not sustainable. Trying to find spare time to do all of the coursework, volunteer, work and keep ontop of a house with two dogs can be very challenging at times but it's best to keep positive and to do what you can. The first year of study was tough through the pandemic and I really struggled with online learning. Being stuck in the same environment, sitting infront of a laptop all day and not experiencing practical learning was quite difficult for me personally and I am over the moon about being back in college. One criticism I have of the course is I find it's really short, only running from September-April. I think students would benefit from having extended study, especially because spring has only just started and we will miss out on so much of the growing period. Also a little extra time to fulfil duties such as volunteering roles would be so beneficial for the people who work full-time as well as study part-time. Overall, I absolutely love this course and the decision to study Horticulture is one of the best decisions of my life, it's completely fuelled my passion and drive to go further and has made me determined to be the change I want to see in the world. I thank the University of South Wales, Bridgend college/Pencoed campus, all of the wonderful lecturers, my classmates and never-ending support from my amazing family; I wouldn't have made it this far without their love and encouragement. This survey was fun. It's made me realise how far I've come. Apologies for my input being so sentimental.
What makes my university a great place to study is the people around me. The staff and teachers I have and know are always so helpful and kind. Without their personalities, experience and overall education I wouldn’t like the place as much as I do. On top of that they have an industry standard recording studio which is really amazing. Having top quality gear and industry standard equipment really helps prepare me and my fellow class mates for our future careers. The only down side to my university is the location. I live in Swansea so it takes a while for me to get to university and so on. But it’s always worth the travel!
The reason why I love the teaching / theory side to the course is because it’s very practical! It’s really helpful that we have an industry standard studio as when we are learning about different things we can just go across the road and see what we’re learning physically in real life instead of on screen. Especially for me, I’m a hands on learner, so learning about something and then being able to take part in it and see it in real life rather than screen real helps the learning process for me as an individual. In my honest opinion I cannot think of any downsides to the learning aspect. If it were online I’d talk about issues then but since it’s in person, it’s amazing!

Plenty of help and support from all staff. Plenty of learning spaces and self study rooms that cater for everyone’s needs.
While there may be many more facilities I have not explored but the most fascinating one for me would be the different students union and extra curricular activities the university...
