Bournemouth is an amazing location to go to university, the beach so close by and plenty of student housing to choose from. Student life is also good, with some great bars and clubs in the centre of Bournemouth as well as a bit further out. The new campus for health and social science is amazing, the facilities and equipment available for learning are great. As the student support system has changed, I have found it not as easy to access, however staff are friendly and helpful. Organisation of the uni is also a little off at times which can be difficult when trying to plan around placements and other commitments. As a whole BU is great and I would definitely recommend to other students.
The course is mainly now taught through blended learning, with practical skills days in person and lectures mainly online. Contact hours with tutors and lecturers are on the lower side, and while on placement are next to none. When in a block that we are in uni, we spend one day in university, which personally I don’t think is adequate.
Location is great with access to the beach, in summer especially. There are plenty of lovely pubs, bars and clubs around Bournemouth too. Accommodation can be very expensive in Bournemouth, but there are a few cheaper options, you just have to be really quick to apply for them.
Uni halls was great. The building was always secure and you feel very safe. The space in Cranborne was brilliant, each room has an en-suite which is great. The only downfall of halls is living with people who you don’t know. I met my best friend in my uni accommodation, but we also lived with people who didn’t respect our shift work so it is a bit like drawing out of a hat, you could be lucky or not!
I love this university. The lifestyle, the bars / clubs, the campus is new, the support is great and the campus for accommodation is close to town. Easy bus access between campus’ and frequent. It really felt like home as soon as I visited on open day. I had offers from better unis but could just see myself living here and don’t regret it at all. In the summer months Bournemouth is the best place to be in the UK easily.
The course content is great, especially online they have adapted well and with good support. I would say about 3 quarters of lecturers are good at what they do, which is decent but not the best. For business, they are considerably better than other degrees from what I've seen. The place this Uni really excels at is employability, placements, career prospects. As a business university they really support you and put you in a good position for your career.
I think this university has a good cost of living. Accommodation can be expensive but actual cost of living is alright. I would say it isn’t the safest especially for women to walk around at night due to the homelessness issue but during the day it is fine. It is very multicultural, people from all over the world live there. There is plenty of buses and the trains can get you to Southampton in 20-30 minutes where you can go all over the country from.
It is arguably the halls furthest from the beach, but it is also closest to the station and Asda/Lidl which keeps food shops cheap. The kitchens are massive! Great for parties and the rooms are a good size with double beds. The wifi is good with option for ethernet for laptop/ games console. I would say good value for money. The only downside is security can be a bit strict, no smoking, no making noise late at night. I think they need to lighten up a bit! Also the washing machines are sooo expensive… but think all halls are the same unfortunately. £6 a wash + £2 dry. But what I will say is this is probably the best halls in Bournemouth for everything you need. Felt safe there and was very social.
it’s a lovely city and it’s so nice after university to go to the beach and unwind however the student counselling facilities need to be improved as they don’t email about it
they don’t always make time for you and sometimes if you’re struggling with a new assignment they won’t give you much help however the course content is very detailed and the powerpoints are very long
don’t live here the location is awful
Lecturers all have accents which makes is so difficult to understand and learn. They also never reply to emails. Some are really good but most are really bad and read off slides the whole time. Pretty place to study with the beach and campus is nice. To improve make lectures not read off slides to explain in more detail what they are talking about and when we have an exam make sure there’s a practice exam and weekly quizzes.
Course content is all online which you can read off from home as lectures just read off slides. I prefer online learning as makes it easier and I hated seminars.
Cost of living is so expensive rent is a huge price Uni busses are always late so have to get the bus early and where I’m living the buses come every half an hour which is bad as I have to get the bus half an hour early to me lectures and just wait till they start and when they’re finished I have to wait half an hour in the cold just to get home. Also really hard to get a part time job
Room was nice but I was on the 9th floor and the lifts would break down all the time which made us walk up the stairs. When I’m paying the amount of money I did it’s ridiculous.
from the SU they’re more focussed on voting for who’s in charge as opposed to what’s best for the people and it’s draining
considering it’s an advertising course there’s no indication of what the industry is really like, no creative aspect and no use of any sort of equipment to find out
staff were strange no help in pandemic
I like the location and the night life is good, the accom is also pretty nice and the facilities are fairly good. However I have found the student support to be significantly lacking to the point where it's ruined everything for me. I've received no help as a consequence I've fallen very far behind in my studies.
I enjoy the content but the online lectures aren't delivered very well and we have very minimal resources. As I mentioned I have fallen very far behind and I am struggling to catch up because many of the PowerPoints are exclusively pictures without any notes on the relevant content.
It's got a good night life and the buses are frequent and on time but some of the student populated areas can be a bit dangerous
At the university, there is an amazing and modern library facility on the lansdowne campus which is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. If you are about the social life, there’s plenty of clubs and bars for you to enjoy including the old fire station which is university affiliated, giving you the best drink prices. If the social life isn’t for you, there plenty of places to eat in the BH2, indoor golf, the cinema, and most importantly the beach! This next factor definitely applies if you are thinking about moving into halls, as there is something called ResLife. It’s also run in partnership with the university bringing fun activities to your chosen uni accommodation. They also run trips outside of your accommodation, for example to the aquarium, pumpkin picking and christmas markets, all for less than 1/4 the average price!
Unfortunately due to covid, 80% of my entire first year has been online with minimal in-class learning. This can decrease motivation and participation levels. It can make it harder to meet course mates, especially when online. However, there has been some amazing things that my course have done to help support its students. There are designated drop in session where you can ask questions and get more information on things you don’t understand.
Course is good but course building doesn’t have enough lecture halls
Not enough lecture halls
Overpriced for what it is, but good option
Best: work opportunities there (shops, bars, etc) Worst: lack of student support for mental health and financial problems
Not amazing teachers, too many different rules to follow. Blended learning works well but not enough in person
Expensive, run down, hard to get from campus to other areas. Decent things to do
Expensive for size, kept to good quality with decent staff
It's a really great uni with lots of opportunities but you have to work for it. Bournemouth is a great place that offers something for everyone.
The course is great! Most of the lecturers are really good. The cad labs are great and workshops are pretty good. It's just a shame how limited the access to the workshops are.
