I think that staff should be more helpful and supportive.
No staff support and help.
The place is very lively. A happening and supportive environment for students to be and blend in. Not a single look of judgment from one student to the other. I’m happy being a part of the IRIS society club at the university. Its great to be a part of this inclusive university. Looking forward to spending more time here:)
The best part of the course is that it’s very subject related and interactive. The lecturers are very informative and helpful and friendly.
Best experience is the student union programmes. Worst experience was how staff treated students during pandemic.
Best course experience is the content we learn, varies in subject and teaches a lot in psychology. Worst course experience is lack of support when mentally struggling.
The uni location of the beach and beautiful forest around make it enjoyable but the night life here decreased during the pandemic.
The staff are very friendly and want to help you with any issues you may be experiencing. Stress of workload, although this is present in all universities :)
There are a good mix of different ways in which the course is taught however I feel some aspects could be delivered with the same effect online instead of in person
The location is great for socialising and has great transport links to the university, town and train station
The uni is in a great location and the campus has a great “vibe”. One of the worst parts about the uni has got to be the food choices and prices. Quite a small aspect however the uni is in general just really great. I love it here!
The course tutors are great and are always doing everything they can for you. I can’t think of anything bad about my course.
I think that university has been great so far especially Bournemouth ! It’s such a great environment and the people you're surrounded by can be so supportive especially the lectures, I think my favourite part about university is the labs and working with the lab technicians at Bournemouth university they always are fun to be around and can make your day 10x better. The only negative thing about university in general is how stressful it can get however with the right methods you can learn to manage it well !
The course in general has been great and overall so easy to understand !
I decided to go to the Bournemouth University because since the beginning they were really supportive and helpful. I was applying as a EU student so I did not know a lot about British education system and I had a lot of questions. They guided me through the application process and answered all of my emails regarding my chosen course. Since I became one of the BU student I've still been receiving support from my university. The Talbot campus is easy to navigate and has a great atmosphere. The facilities are clean, quite modern and well designed. On my course, I can use many softwares that licenses cost thousands of pounds and I have access to great and expensive equipment. All of that allows me to improve my skills in animation and prepare for my future career. We get the support we need from our lectures, demonstrators and other BU departments throughout the year. For example, I can learn new languages for free thanks to our library staff or I can get the support with finding a placement and improving my CV. Bournemouth University also offers part-time jobs to support their students which I think is really great opportunity for many of us because it allows us to gain some work experience while managing our studies. I'm also proud that I'm a student at the university that constantly improves and works towards helping the environment in many ways, for example, we have bee hives on campus, on top of the BU' Fusion Building. The only thing I would like to change is the lack of events promoting some physical activities. I wish there would be available more sport activities for all of the students because many of us do not get enough of them during a week. I believe that promoting physical health is just as important as mental health, which BU already promotes a lot. Summing up, I would say that my uni experience has been really good so far and I would recommend Bournemouth University to everyone that wants a uni that has a great atmosphere and facilities and that offers support for all of its students.
Overall, I'm quite content with my course and the way it's being taught. This year, most of my lecturers and workshops is on campus, with a few exceptions, but I think that it works pretty well. I have three units per semester with workshops and lectures for almost all of them. This semester one of my units is called Group project where we don't really have any lectures but we constantly work with our groups and lectures. I would say that most of our lecturers are really easy to get in contact with, they respond quickly and offer their support. We need to find the placements on our own, but Bournemouth University does guide us through this process and offers the support with helping to improve our CVs and portfolios. I've learned a lot since I've started attending Computer Animation Art and Design course and I'm confident that I will be able to find a job after graduation in my chosen career as an animator.
GOOD UNI BUT FOR FILM STUDIES NEED MORE FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT AND REAL FILM INDUSTRY WORKSHOPS
BAD LECTURES AND PRACTICAL EXPERIENCES
EXPENSIVE CITY AND NON APPROPRIATE FOR FILM INDUSTRY
GOOD HALL
Great: Students union, a lot of support from societies Improvement: More support from lecturers (its nice to feel like they care), a way to celebrate successes (e.g., if you get a first on a unit perhaps a financial reward or a special mention), the mental health support is lacking. They are there but it doesn’t take much for them to refer you to the NHS (they should be trained enough to support students on a wide variety of issues rather than just a select few.)
Poole house building needs modernising, the lecturers are very hit and miss. Sometimes their lecture PowerPoints are very helpful but other times there’s just a graph on a slide and no interpretation in the notes. This isn’t helpful when you’re pretty much expected to teach yourself the content or if you missed the lecture. However, the workshops are very good and helpful. I always leave them feeling more confident. They’re consistently good.
Nice seaside, lots of places to work and decent places to go out However lots of crackheads and shops slowly shutting down in town
Good: Has a gym, study room, nice roof terrace and modern common spaces Improve: There is always security but sometimes they are from external companies that they put too much trust into. Always be cautious if they’re not actually employed by the student housing company.
Having students from diverse cultures make the University experience so interesting. Apart from classroom learning, we get to learn about the culture from other countries around the world. Mingling with students from various work background and sharing thoughts and ideas with them gives us valuable insights. However, I really wish to have the entire campus in one location instead of scattering building into different places which makes the commute difficult. The main campus always have more facilities and good view than the other campuses.
My first semester was taught online and I find it more relaxing and gives me more confidence in asking whatever doubts I have on a topic without having to worry about what other students might think. The teachers spend more time with us dealing with our doubts after the class and that was really helpful. Whereas, my second semester was blended learning, where I finally get to meet my classmates. I felt not so confident in clarifying doubts while in the classroom as students are from different background and some of them with lots of experience. Also, i’ve noticed that unlike my country, student coordination is very less. They don’t engage in any other extra-curricular activities. Most of them come study and leave and I still don’t know half of the students in my class. I wish students get a proper University experience and not just make it all about studies.
Bournemouth University is located in one of the most beautiful coastal area with lots of tourist attractions to visit during holidays and weekends. We have beautiful beaches, Old harry rocks, Durdle door. All within an hour distance from the Uni. My favourite thing about the location is the availability of variety of restaurants. I get to eat different varieties of cuisine and have awesome restaurants that provides Indian food. Therefore, I don’t miss homely food much. Another thing is the commute to different places, we always have buses available and the train station is under 5 minutes walk from the business centre campus.
